I find it very interesting that Square Enix has been awarded a multi-game contract for the Marvel franchise. Disney owns Marvel, as well as Star Wars.
As you may know, I despise EA with a serious passion. Inquisition is the last game I purchased from EA, and I have been happy to have not paid for Battlefront... the old BF2 is a much better game. Not that Square is a whole lot better, in all honesty but... ?
What say you? Good or bad call? Why doesn't Marvel make games in house???

I believe that Square Enix will totally be able to deliver on creating epic Marvel games. If they can get them to the same caliber as the Batman Arkham games, I'll be happy.

We are talking building up a collective with enough team chemistry and process to be able to build a game. There are also maintenance costs that go with it and all the extra costs that come with building software. IMO it would be much better to get an established studio to do the work for them. This way they do not have to worry about keeping a quality ship.

I recognize the limitations you speak of, but so much of what goes into making a video game... Is done on every Marvel movie anyway. Body scanning, lidar scanning of every set, etc. Everything we do can be recreated in a 3d model, including the actors faces. The assets are all there. It takes an engine and a team. These can be outsourced or homegrown. Knowing Disney, it is ultimately probably better for the developer that they don't work in house. Disney is known as the Big Rat for a reason.

There is some overlap absolutely but there is also the software engineering aspect of creating this game. This code will have to be written, maintained, tested, optimized for different builds. The tacked on aspect of this is what makes Video Games so complex.
