The Expanse. They just aired the first two episodes for season 2. One of the best sci-fi series. with a space theme. It is indeed. I dont know why it took me a long time to finish 1st episode I wasnt really into it. But once i took it seriously, damn!! I couldnt stop watching.

I really wanted to like Ascension, but it just ended up feeling... Unfinished. It was so blatantly obvious they were fishing for getting picked up for a full series that didn't happen. True! There are many fans who keep calling for a pick up. Its still a possibility. We'll see.

I'll also put forward for consideration Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda. Its not the...best show...in the universe, but it did have its moments especially in the first couple of seasons and it has the word 'andromeda' in the title which led me to rewatching thshow myself recently.
Though if anything BioWare/ us can look at it as things NOT to do with Andromeda. Especially the dialog. The crummy, crummy, dialog.

Nice thread, but there are many more MEA on-topic matters jostling for attention in the MEA sub-forum, so moving this to the Lobby.

Being as my other picks already taken guess I again going old school: By old school I mean old sci-fi shows -even some children's shows because lets face it there is not much these days worth watching. The Tripods Tracker The kid shows: Secret World of Alex Mack
Strange Days at Blake Holsey High (Black Hole High)
Galidor: Defenders of the Outer Dimension
The ORIGINAL Battlestar Galactica Dark Matter: And the program that I always rewatch while waiting on a series or game: The Pretender

I've been watching ST The Next Generation on Netflix as of late. So dorky at times but always worth a laugh and other times it's just genuinely awesome because of how intellectually written it is, with a lot of ethos in the forefront. Patrick Stewart is great, except when he has to do romantic scenes (cringe) ST:TNG is probably still my all-time favorite sci-fi show (well, unless you consider Twin Peaks sci-fi, which I don't really). It certainly has its share of bad episodes, and much of the first season is just embarrassing, but when it was working, it could be *really* good. While there were occasional times that I disagreed with Picard's decisions, he was the right way to do a "Paragon" character, i.e. principled and altruistic, and willing to take risks to do the right thing, but not naive or easily manipulated. He and Data are the gold standard for how to do an inspiring leader and the "non-human character exploring humanity" formula, respectively. I think it also showed how you can have a successful and engaging story with smaller stakes that doesn't revolve around saving the world / galaxy / universe all the time, though there were a few here and there dealing with big existential threats.

Though if anything BioWare/ us can look at it as things NOT to do with Andromeda. Especially the dialog. The crummy, crummy, dialog. I watched the first two seasons of Andromeda and found it acceptably hit-or-miss with an interesting concept at first. However, about halfway through the second season it seemed to get re-tooled to focus on action (which was usually less than impressive given the show's budget) and often mediocre stand-alone plots. I stopped watching after the third season premiere, which barely explained anything from the previous season's cliffhanger and instead did an "alien possession" story that also didn't make much sense. Plus, there had been some cringeworthy interviews from the studio and one of the actors talking about how they were much happier with the show's changed style, so I didn't have much reason to expect that it was going to get better.

As for recommendations, how about that "Mars" series that just aired on National Geographic? It's on a much smaller scale with a "hard science" focus, but it definitely fits with the theme of exploration and humanity finding a place to live besides Earth.

Speaking of documentaries, I have no idea what the name of it was, but the TV was running when I was at my parents recently and some space-docu was running on the local channel and all of a sudden the Starchild theme played in it.

That might have been "Mars" - I say that only because I remember noticing the same thing in a non-Mass Effect piece of media recently, and I can't think of what else it could have been.

The Expanse. They just aired the first two episodes for season 2. One of the best sci-fi series. with a space theme. Have to say I was also really surprised (positively of course). Syfy is not really know for making great shows to me but I was stunned by season 1 of The Expanse. Just watched it recently when it was added to Amazon Prime. Brilliant stuff.
