This game was def. made for those who played and enjoyed Planescape Torment. Its very dialog heavy but I made a combat character. Just gonna run thru other stuff in the opening and really tweek the character the way I want it. Might go Strong Glaive or the Jack of all Trades version. We shall see. *Has been in CC for about 1 hr now.

It seems from reviews that the PC version is vastly superior to the PS4 one. Well, it's a CRPG similar to the style of Planescape Torment. I plan to play it once I bring myself to play and finish Pillars of Eternity Od Nua dungeon + White March parts 1 and 2. It will be an interesting distraction until ME:A.

As soon as I fix what's up with my computer (my three month old graphics card seems to have died *fuming*) I'll tell people what I think of this game.

I was a bit disappointed that I couldn't continue where I left the early access, oh well. Lack of character customization (hair, looks etc.) was a bit downer too but something I can live up with. I'm a sucker for story and dialogue so that's fine as long as it's good. I'm excited!

I started playing as a Tough Glaive last night. It's pretty fun so far. Intelligent Nano here. Between Scan Thoughts and the Anamnesis skill, I'm just vacuuming up stray bits of information

Between Scan Thoughts and the Anamnesis skill, I'm just vacuuming up stray bits of information I actually went and rerolled as a Wrathful Glaive when I realized I like hitting people with the greatsword. My dominant tide at the moment is Silver.

The mind reading skill of the Nano was tempting, but I settled on going with a persuasive and deceptive Stealthy Jack and plan on mostly raising Int. Was nice to already smooth talk and lie my way out of a fight, even though I only just started. A bit too tired to properly concentrate on such a text-heavy game anymore right now though, will continue tomorrow.

Intelligent Nano here. Between Scan Thoughts and the Anamnesis skill, I'm just vacuuming up stray bits of information So I'm assuming that the complaint about some game mechanics being significantly better and allowing access to more content is related to the "scan thoughts" ability? It hasn't given me access to more content so far. but it does give you a better idea of the mood and motives of the characters you interact with. The human ones, at least...

Most of Scan Thoughts covers Backstory/Intent, but parts of the game are either only accessible with it, or have notable changes. The two I recall: The Silver Twin Aliens in Cliff's Edge, and Pretty much anyone in the first city's tavern, a.k.a. Smoldering Corpse 2.0. There are a couple others, but don't remember the exact names.
As for my gaming experience, nearly 20 hours in and lovin' it. Picked the Observant Nano, hitting a Blue/Gold Tide level with hints of Silver/Indigo.

I've tried playing Planescape Torment twice and gave up every time. I just couldn't get into it and the damn skull annoyed me to heck. I also had hard time getting into it at first, but I do recommend to finish the game at least once. Look for guides to min-max your TNO, I would recommend playing as a mage. Around the halfway point the story becomes incredible. Planescape just as a table top D&D setting is really just downright weird and some of the campaigns really require a deep dive not into just Planescape but into D&D multiverse like one that is basically can be a Grayhawk, Ravenloft, and Planescape crossover.

PSA for anyone who tried early access:
Any saves from Early Acess may corrupt the game, making it impossible to load save files at all. Delete the saves from any pre-release game.
And make sure Steam Cloud is disabled for TToN or they'll just repopulate.

Nanos are the "casters" so you want Intellect, primarily. I'm playing an Intelligent Nano myself, and took Lore: Machinery and Anamnesis This being a "Torment" game, a talky skill may also come in handy, like Deception or Persuasion Edit: Scan Thoughts too. That's proving to be a popular nano skill.

My main problem is that I have no idea how leveling works and how much stuff I will be able to take later if I don't do it now. Also, should I be investing in Might and Speed at all? And a stupid question, probably... how do I end conversations if I don't want to go through all the options, for RP reasons? I can't seem to figure that out... Thanks for the help!

The way I understand it is, at certain points, you can "cash in" your XP for one of four improvements: stat boost, skill point, edge improvement, or a new power. Once you have all four, you go up a "Tier" and can access more powerful abilities, become able to carry more ciphers, etc. Leveling becomes more of a gradual process that way, rather than just going DING! when you reach a particular point. It probably can't hurt to invest a little in Might and Speed. Might affects health and Speed affects your ability to dodge attacks. Not to mention other skills go off those stats as well. But Intellect should be the primary stat for nanos. There should be a dialogue option to move conversations along if you don't want to keep pestering people with questions. Probably towards the bottom.

My big question with this one is... is it more than just a tribute when push comes to shove? I haven't played it yet but I haven't ever beaten Planescape either. I should get right back to that but I actually wanna know which one to play first. I prefer to end with the best one.

At least for its references and other parallels, I'd say Planescape: Torment first. In the same vein as DS1 to DS3, the latter's refined some of the more annoying bits of the original, but I'd still be hard-pressed not to recommend PS:T first for the overall experience. Too early for now to say which ends best.
I'd personally say Numenera goes farther than a tribute or love letter. No more than Pillars of Eternity was for Baldur's Gate or its ilk.
