I can't remember, but did they ever touch on why the Inquisition didn't simply ask for the book...? No. It may be that they didn't want to reveal a source in Sebastian's court, or possibly offend Sebastian by suggesting he couldn't be trusted to hold the book safely. In fairness to the Inquisition, someone DID come to steal the book. I still can't help but think this whole situation could have been avoided if the Inquisition just explained the situation to him from the beginning. I can't see any good reason why Sebastian would refuse. I have a feeling this series is going to end with Seb saying just that. Quizzy obviously chose Leliana at the War Table, when he should have just picked Josie...

I hope they get Christina and Nunzio to do another comic. So far they have done such a good job with KE.

Just saw the preview. Ehhh... I'm disappointed. There was this buildup to Ser Aaron discovering Vaea's secret, but it turns out he doesn't care. It is not important. I can't remember, but did they ever touch on why the Inquisition didn't simply ask for the book...? What book?

Well, that was a lot of fun. Many heartwarming moments abound. It wasn't in the previews, but this issue features a gorgeous double page of Ser Aaron beating the shit out of Marquette's Tevinter goons. Fuck, that was awesome. And him sticking by Vaea even at the potential cost of going to prison was really touching.
They kinda beat feet out of there a little too easily, but you can see Granger realizing "Oh shit, the Prince is here, he'll totally let them go." And I guess Sebastian is a little sweet on Vaea, or so it seems.
Anyway, we have a sequel hook with that revelation over the red lyrium in Tevinter. But is it a hook for another comic, or Dragon Age 4? I guess we'll have to see.

Given that DA4 is still at minimum 2-3 years out, I'd wager we'll be seeing another comic if not a book. This could turn out to be Bioware's way of fleshing out the Inquisition's operations in Tevinter. I was pretty happy with the conclusion, lots of feel good moments.

Yeah, I think it's setting up another comic series, but I have a feeling we'll see some of these characters in DA4 as well.
And while I think it wrapped up a little too easily for them, and it wasn't exactly the most gripping of storylines overall, it did set up a move to Tevinter and it will be nice to see more of it in the future (assuming there's another series following this).
I kinda scratched my head at the "revelation" that there was a piece of red lyrium in Tevinter though. Why would that be a surprise...? That stuff was everywhere in the south. And with the Venatori all over the place, they could have carted it out by the wagon-load back to Tevinter. There's no way we could have kept an eye on all of it.

Maybe it's not about the piece, but the amount of it. There's also no way of telling how far anyone could've transported it before the lyrium began breaking their mind, so perhaps the shipment never went as far as Tevinter.

Not all world-states exist where Inquisition is on good terms with Sebastian, nevermind that Inquisition either isn't supposed to exist anymore, or be under command of the Divine. Besides, I think it's supposed to show how Inquisition is working right now and its conversion to shadow organization. Whatever happens, it would seem they try not to alarm anyone or try keeping people from knowing what they're after.

True, we (potentially) stop Tevinter from making off with a ship full of it, but realistically there's no way we could have kept any nation from getting their hands on it if they wanted it.

Sebastian would be well aware they saved the world and I see no reason why he'd refuse giving up the journal if Varric or another senior member simply explained why they needed it. If they were trying to get it from say... a magister in Tevinter, then playing it this way would make more sense. I also think it's pretty clear that "Annexing Kirkwall" never happened in the canon they went with in this story. The meeting with Varric would have played out very differently if it had. EDIT: Honestly, being the good Chantry boy that he is, it should really be as simple as the Divine sending him a letter to turn it over...

Not if Sebastian also didn't want anyone to know he's been researching red lyrium or Inquisition suspected someone close to him may then tell someone they didn't want to know that they're interested with the journal. In fact, maybe it's Tevinter agents they didn't want to alarm - after all, we know they were there. Also - I can totally see "Annexing Kikrwall" happening and Sebastian still treating Varric as he did. After all, not only Varric is now a Viscount of Kirkwall and not a member of Inquisition, he wasn't the one who made decisions to ally or go against Sebastian and in fact, no matter what world-state we're in, he keeps ignoring letters from him either way.

I have to admit that red lyrium would seem to be one of the worst kept secrets in Thedas. We may have stopped the operation on the Storm Coast but particularly if you do the Hushed Whispers path the stuff is growing everywhere. Then the person studying it at Sulevin Keep says that it will grow on just about anything organic, at which point I did wonder if the world was doomed regardless of what anyone else does. I feel sure I'm missing something somewhere. The comics always seem to ascribe more importance to their protagonists' activities than would seem warranted from what we know from playing the games.

I don't want to keep quoting people, so the post below pertains to Sebastian and the journal. Given that the journal mentions red lyrium in Tevinter, it occurs to me that it's from Tevinter and Sebastian likely acquired it through less than noble means. (He had it stolen, in short.)
If that's the case, the Inquisition may have felt it was "impolitic" to ask Sebastian to hand it over. Imagine how that conversation would have gone over.
Inq: We know you stole a journal on red lyrium from Tevinter. Seb: Are you accusing me of being a thief? Inq: Yes. Hand it over. Seb: And how do you know I have this item? Inq: We're spying on you, even though you're our ally. Seb: I see. And why should I give it to you? Inq: Because we don't trust you with it. But we can still be friends, right?

After the fight with Corypheus the red lyrium present in Temple Of Sacred Ashes there's a small shot where red lyrium is shown to stop glowing and turning into a rock - so I think whatever Cory was doing, he was somehow influencing the growth of red lyrium. It may not be as common now as we think it is, with maybe the lyrium which didn't have its growth artificially influenced remaining at its full power.
