So far from everything I've read and seen, the game is getting more positives than negatives with the negatives being minor enough to be fixed by release or post release patches. The element of the game that concerns me from the footage we've received is the lack of diversity in the enemies. And it's not so much that we may only fight a few different types of enemies, it's more about their abilities. Unless I'm missing something (that someone may point out), I have not seen any of the enemies use biotic abilities like charge, throw, and singularity nor tech abilities like flame thrower, overload, and cloaking.
Yes the fiend has been redundant, and I'm fine with that.
I would like to ask if anyone knows if we will be fighting against enemies who have the same abilities and tools that we do? If not, I would hope that Bioware implements this extra element of difficulty and strategy. I want to have to dodge and take cover from flame throwers or become unable to move/thrown across the room/map by a biotic ability or watch for stealthy assassination attacks by cloaked raiders or get stunned/have my HUD temporarily fried by someone using overload.
Thoughts? Please present evidence that does not involve spoilers.

Actually this is one area I think looks pretty good so far at least potentially since we have seen Kett enemies use what looks like at least some kind of biotic abilities. And maybe there was a cloak once or something? Either way I think enemies will be able to do more to you then just shoot you.

I'm not worried about this yet, although I, like you, would like to see diverse skills and tactics coming from enemies. I'm holding out hope that there's more to see from than enemies than we've been shown because the gameplay we've been shown has been intended to showcase what players can do rather than what enemies can.

I see this as one of ME3's major shortfalls, in fact the entire trilogy come to think of it. Occasionally you'll see an enemy throw a grenade, but that's the extent of their capability. Even the Collectors, who are supposed to be technologically and biotically superior, don't do anything besides throw a grenade or crap out a swarm of bees.

The enemy I enjoyed the most in the original trilogy were the ones who used Combat Drones, Flashbang Grenades, Tela Vasir using Biotic Charge, and most of the ME3 Citadel DLC enemies. I'm hoping to see some more enemy ability usage, but hopefully not as chaotic as ME1 enemy biotics that were more annoying than challenging.

Outside of maybe a boss, I really hope we won't be facing enemies that can ragdoll you. That's just downright annoying.
I also heard there will be Sync Kills and/or One Shots. I hope they are telegraphed enough and avoidable enough, not like Snipers in the first Mass Effect when you encountered them and couldn't get to cover in time.

I do have "evidence" to present; but it involves a "monster spoiler", so I'll not post it. I kind of wish I'd not read it, because I'd rather have encountered this enemy unaware of its abilities. It does indeed use one of the abilities you've listed.
I don't think there's much to worry about, at this point. They've been trying not to spoil much, and I'm confident that this extends to enemy types. They may not amaze us with diversity, but I'm sure there's more variety than we've seen.

I'm hoping to see a large variety from enemies from various backgrounds. I want to fight different types of Kett and Angara, mercenary and outcast groups formed from various Milky Way and Andromedan races. One reason I preferred ME2 over ME3 was because ME3 felt stifled in it's variety of enemies. I loved fighting Asari, Turians, Salarians, Krogan, and Vorcha in ME2. Tbh as long as we can fight against the Milky Way races, I'll be happy.
I'm also hoping to be able to fight against primitive Andromedan races. Coming under attack from alien cavemen and having to face the moral dilemma as to whether or not you should engage would be brilliant.

I'm aware that they were very similar, but they did have subtle differences. Having a variety of races to fight against - even if they were in similar roles - helped me to immerse myself in the universe. I'm hoping for a similar level of immersion when playing Andromeda, with lots of variety in enemy behaviour, weapons, and abilities at the same time. I loved fighting Krogans in ME2 because they behaved and fought unlike any other race I'd approached so far. |

Considering the press was largely restricted to one area and only got to taste a fraction of the game, I think it's safe to assume there's going to be a lot of different enemies with varying abilities.

Lets look at the enemy variety in the past games:
ME1
Random mercs, thugs and pirates (ENEMIES EVERYWHERE! HOLD THE LINE!")
Sarens forces, Krogan and Geth mostly.
Then you had rachni, thorian creepers and husks, the horror enemies.
ME2
Most of the games enemies is random mercs from the 3 most active merc groups(Blue Suns, Eclipse or Blood Pack), with an occasional mech thrown in. its this about 70% of the game.
Then you have Collectors in 3 missions, even tough their the supposed main enemy.
And geth in a couple of missions plus overlord dlc.
I think theres some missions that have only husks and scions, like the dead reaper.
ME3
More than half of the games enemies are Cerberus, id say, which was not that great.
Theres couple of missions where you fight reaper controlled geth, only in the Rannoch missions.
The rest are pretty much reaper forces.
Then theres the collector forces but thats only for armax arena or MP. Kinda shame would have liked to see a large dlc where you fight collectors. But like a batarian squadmate, it remains a dream that never came too be, along with a coherent storyline.

They also mentioned a Jellyfish-type enemy but whether they're wildlife or an alien race remains to be seen. The enemy variation we've seen so far is at least as varied as previous games, if not more varied. I'm sure (hoping) there's a ton of enemies that we won't know about until they bite/ shoot/ tentacle-grab us firsthand. As for your last point, bear in mind that we're only exploring one cluster of Andromeda as opposed to the whole Milky Way galaxy, so variation in the design of alien races can't be expected to be as extensive as in the Milky Way. |

All of that can be gleaned from the terribly brief snippets of gameplay footage they've shown us these last three months. The remnant enemies also look widely varied, and likely could include those "Super Bosses". I agree that we will likely face a wide variety of foes. I also agree that the new aliens don't look as varied as the MW species. We only have two species, though, so I think that's unavoidable. (Those two species look like they could've been one species, at some point.) We're playing in a single star cluster, so it wouldn't make sense to have a galaxy's worth of new aliens running about. Regardless, we brought our Milky Way friends with us for variety; and we're already seeing that their designs are more varied than in the past. |

I assume in ME:A the powers enemies used is linked to difficulty, jus like it was in the trilogy. |

It was the reason I always had a shotgun and assault rifle modded with Frictionless Materials X-- so that I could use them untrained, reasonably well, in a pinch. I missed intelligent enemies like this in ME2/3. I hope to see a return of smart, capable foes in MEA. I don't care if they only behave intelligently on Insanity, just as long as it's included. I'm not holding my breath, though. People hate a challenge. (No offense. No cheap shot intended.) Even in ME1, such intelligent foes were drastically underutilized. Elite geth, isolated human (or only batarian?) engineers, and biotics were the only foes who could really turn the tables on us. |

I'm more worried about a lot of videos just showing us fighting remnant or "raiders" (human ones at that). So hopefully, OP, you and I are wrong to be worried about enemy variety in that aspect.

Ever since BW did the additional difficulty options in DA:I, I always thought something similar to the 'even ground' option would be awesome in the ME series. Doubly so with the high mobility we seem to have in Andromeda. As long as it's planned from day one, and not a glitchy add-on, like those DAI extras. As much as I appreciated their additions, they caused some weird issues, at times. |

As I'm currently playing Mass Effect, there is nothing intelligent about the enemies though. Abilities are extremely hard to avoid, especially Tech Abilities making it extremely frustrating to fight them. They zip around like crazy and paired with the horrible shooting mechanics are hard to hit at times. Also regarding Enemy Variety: While there are actually quite a few different types of enemies in the first Mass Effect many of them are designed horribly. A Merc Engineer, Biotic, Soldier and Sniper all look pretty much the same. The Geth are a bit better since they are color coded. Compare that, especially to Mass Effect 2 and 3, where it's much easier to assess what enemies you're dealing with much quicker and easier. I have nothing against enemies using Abilities and from the footage we've seen I can remember the new Backlash and Assassination being used by Enemies. I'm not against enemies using more abilities and I'm even cool with Certain Knockdown/Disabling effects as long as they're avoidable and endlessly spammed. |

There are a few Milky Way enemies in some of the videos they showed so i guess that we will see some of them using the same skills as the protagonist, besides the same should also happen to some Andromeda enemies. About the diversity, i believe it's just that Bioware is doing a really good job at hiding them apart from the Angara and Kett. |
