Hello folks! We all love ditching our starting abilities to go for our favored ones thank's to Tactician's Renewal but what would you do if it didn't exist? This is a challenge to try and build an Inquisitor, Solas, Varric or Cassandra for the whole game without ditching their starting points. The purpose of the challenge is to test your patience and creativity under the constraints of lacking the saving grace of the TR. RULES: -Your build must fill the 8 active slots with upgraded abilities or 7 with upgraded abilities and one with your Focus Ability; -You cannot end any Skill Tree in a nonupgraded ability; -Every used Skill Tree must have at least one upgraded ability; -The Inquisitor must use either 30, 31 or 32 ability points; -Cassandra must use either 30 or 31 ability points; -Solas must use either 29 or 30 ability points; -Varric must use 30 ability points. -You must keep your starting abilities in an active slot unless there is a Fade-Touched allowing you to use it by chance. Starting abilities: -Two-Handed Inquisitor: Mighty Blow, War Cry -Weapon and Shield Inquisitor: Payback Strike, War Cry -Dual-Wielding Inquisitor: Twin Fangs, Stealth -Archer Inquisitor: Longshot, Stealth -Mage Inquisitor: Chain Lightning, Flashfire -Cassandra: Shield Wall, Payback Strike, Challenge -Solas: Barrier, Winter's Grasp -Varric: Longshot, Caltrops
Examples: Hidden Storm Rift MageTwo-Handed Strong ReaverAll-Round Double Daggers Assassin
Good luck and good gaming!

Well... You make it sound like that's hard What's the build? Need to show points spent and if there is any Fade-Touched material involved.

Sorry, but I would just side-step the whole issue and not spend any skill points I earned on skills that I wouldn't buy anyway with a TR. You're only giving up 2 skill points maximum, that's not really much of a challenge. I've run with unspent skill points before, when I was close to finishing my spec training. Saves on TRs.

For me, the only class suffering from bad starting abilities is mage. it's true that tactician's amulett is very convenient to gain 1 or even 2 free skill point for better use, but apart from mage inquisitor it's really ok to deal with party starting abilities. there are much more challenging things to do imo, like run a "only pick ups" playthrough on nigthmare with all trials on... and so much more.
cheers

I've never used it. But I play on casual and whatever skills I get without respecing seem to do me okay.

I hate respeccing. It undoes some of the difficulty in choosing abilities by letting you skip the suboptimal builds on the way.
I will happily undo that first starting ability (because those are stupid), and I always modded DAO to remove them entirely, but once I've started the game I never respec.

I only used Maker's Sighs a few times in DA2, but I used loads of Tactician's Renewals. The eight ability slot limit encourages it, I think. Also allowed me to answer questions like "what would Varric be like with daggers?"
