I always play devils advocate with one point or another, not here.

I like Liana and yeah the marketing didn't do a good job with the game, which led to the massive war.

I felt that was a bizarre argument.

She brings up some fair points. Honestly I've been wondering about the ugly woman phenomena in Bioware's games as opposed to the fabulously perfect gay men. Hard not to assume it really is deliberate at this point.

Alright.. Wow! I've many issues with what she said but at least she can make a point and structure a monologue which is rare.

People always picture EA as greedy bastards running after money but why not this time?

Matrix and figures showed MShep was played the most and by a larger margin. Puting more asset and time to polish the character that is predicted to be played the most makes sense to me. I see no particular message here except: "We put our money where our gamer plays". The fact that Fryder is "less heroic" is a point of view and i don't know why heroism should be defiined by how one's looking like.

I agree with her when she said that communication was "meh" and gamers filled the blank with W/E they wanted. But now we're in a day of age where gamers would complain for nothing and they're very vocal about it so in the end somebody will complain anyway.

Fshep was a second thought, a fill-in. She wasn't planned at the beguining and some Fshep voice actors in other languages than english got cast late and in a rush. The French voice actress behind shep has never been shy about telling that. I remember some players having issues with Fshep walking like a man and all. For those reasons they tried to make a separate woman character and i'ld agreee: They failed but they tried.

You can puke at Miranda and complain about LI in ME but some Like Jack was good and original enough to be noticed. 2 french youtubers analysed all BioWare's romances till DA:I and it's always the same tropes: Damsell in destress, Light ehaded princess, the guy that has lost his parents/wife... BioWare alwways have done their romances this wway and noww that should be an issue? This is society fighting for gender equality -rightfully so- and now hammering this debate in every place possible: A man hold the door for a woman: He is archaic but he doesn't he hates women. She shouldn't put more intent in BioWare's characters than the devs did themselves... Blame them for doing the romances like they were already in the 90's but that's all they could be blamed for.

Female ryder maybe be uglier than her male counterparts in the trailers but in the end you're the one holding the power to change that. BioWare's offering you the opportunity to make a Fryder more attractive and the new pathfinder where her male counterppart is not doing Jack. And that is something that should be saluted, if i'ld follow her way of thinking.

There is nothing wrong -gender equality wise- in this product. The tempest feature women at key position same for the nexus.

To finish, i'm glad you brought yourself your beef with EA "treating you as if you stink" not giving you a review code. Because being angry and buyest is something we all feel at some point.

Some people working at BioWare may have "evil" opinions but i don't feel like they put them into this game... Being all concensual and all is part what led this game to feel a bit more bland and generic than MET.

The only time I felt Bioware was forcing their politics on me, was the character of Krem in DAI.

The original is the only one I've played in that franchise.  They lost me when they released DA2.      Have you been playing MEA?

You mean the three gay men we've had in BW games, only one of which had his own distinct face model? 

Compared to Morrigan (x2), Leliana (x2), Isabela, Ashley (x2), Liara (x3), Miranda (x2), Jack (x2), Samara/Morinth (x2), Traynor and Vivienne? Note these aren't even all the attractive women in BW games (SWTOR has a bunch of ~eye candy~ female companions, and I excluded women I personally find gorgeous to avoid hearing once again how ugly butch-coded women are to *ahem* discerning straight dudes).  

I feel like you're both making an issue where there isn't one.

I'm gonna wait and watch.  I'm one of those gamers that you don't have to worry about listening to me complaining with buyers remorse.  

At the risk of sounding like a BW white knight, I think they were honest when they said it. Their intention was to equally market two characters that are equal in the game. But the backlash to Sara's face/animations put them in a no-win situation of focusing on Scott while they made adjustments or put it out there and invite more negativity. But that's just my own impression with no facts to back it up, so take it for what you will.

As to the video itself, I like the way Liana presents her points and makes a fairly entertaining video, but I don't really agree with a lot of what she said.

I've never bought into the theory that BW has begun making their female characters less attractive to promote some agenda. Liana brought up Cassandra, but I think Cass (in DA:I) is one of the most attractive women in the series and perhaps in all of BW's games. And she's a heroic badass with a fully fleshed-out, three-dimensional personality. Truly, in one of my least favorite BW games I found one of my very favorite characters.

Liana also brought up Sera vs. Dorian. To be honest, I found neither of them physically attractive but both to be better characters than I originally gave them credit for, once I got to know them. I could also counter her argument with Traynor vs. Cortez. I thought Traynor was very attractive (and I was disappointed she wasn't an option for my male Shep) but not so much Cortez. But that's just my opinion vs. hers for whatever its worth.

Coming back to MEA, specifically Sara Ryder, I simply disagree that Sara is "ugly." I think her face is very cute, but hampered occasionally by a questionable animation or bad lighting. And I say "occasionally" because that's all it's been for me so far, something I notice every once in a while. Others might see it more but I don't. MEA is the first time that I've ever chosen to play the female option before the male and the first time I've started with a default appearance instead of creating my own. And I did it precisely because I like the default Sara that much.

On a side note, I looked over the preset females in the CC and didn't like any of them better than default Sara. I haven't seen any of them in-game yet, though, so that is open to change.

Another point I disagree with Liana on is that Sara is less heroic than Scott. Absolutely not true, IMO, and it seems like an odd thing to say. Heroism is about actions, not physical appearance. Both Ryders do pretty much the same things as the player character here, so the comment seems rather far off the mark to me.

In the end, the video was good and I'm glad I watched it. It's obvious Liana put a lot of thought into it and I respect her opinions even though I can't agree with most of them. Thanks for posting it, OP.
