Oh man what fun you will have with this guy!
Required Collection: Maxed out commons.
Charge: 4b, 5b, 6a Nova: 4a, 5a, 6b Shockwave: 1 Apex Training: 4b, 5a, 6b Barrier: 4a, 5a, 6b
Gun of choice, I'll either go charger x or an assault rifle with pierce as long as I have max cooldown. The charger is better at close range, but the assault rifle helps out at long range with bosses.
Most common play: Charge, DOUBLE Nova, Charge, Shockwave, Nova, Charge with almost no wait time on cooldown at all! And if your health gets too low? Shields come right back up, double Nova again, if you want!
It's also pretty strong to, if you can, when charge restoring only half shields (or just shields in general being at less than 50%, either shockwave or shoot for a brief period and then time it just right so that you can charge and then go into double Nova.
That 10% shield cost reduction allows you to go into that double nova if your shields are at least at 91%. And if they are at any time before your fist hits the ground, you can do it. And your shields will still be recharging while you're charging and in Nova animation.
For those who don't know: Nova's strength is no longer dependent on Barrier strength, it's a flat value.
And yes, he can hold his own in Gold. Armored Outlaw units melt. Berserkers are a little tougher, obviously

LOL specing into shockwave on a NovaGuard. All powers start with one point in them. Besides, Nova can prime now and Shockwave is on an individual CD. No reason not to use it.

shockwave on a human vanguard was very viable and fun in ME3. With nova's ability to prime, it will be interesting for sure. I'll have to give this build a try once I get my characters leveled.

LOL specing into shockwave on a NovaGuard. The new max on skill points with all cards unlocked is not 85, so 1) you can put a free point into shockwave and 2) the new cooldown system makes it useful. Repeating the suggested steps in the common combo resets the shockwave timer almost completely.

I went for 6b Charge and 6a Nova on my first road to lvl20, feels pretty good on gold. Wanted to try 6a/6b, for good ol' ME3's sake, so I reset level. Does reseting even do anything else?

I wouldn't bother resetting levels. It's far too much of a grind. Respec cards SEEM to have not horrible drop rates like in 3. And I think it gives you some apex points no one really cares about.

Yeah, I kinda regretted doing that. Let's say I did it for science. Yep, science.

LOL specing into shockwave on a NovaGuard. Even using a respec card, apparently you can't remove the initial 3 points that are pre-specced. So yes, every single Novaguard build is going to have Shockwave. So there's definitely a LOL here, but it's on you.

There is a mandatory point put into powers, even when we dont want them? And even if we chose to respec that character, the point still remains in that power? Thats garbage.

Eh, yeah, it sucks, but it really only matters when you're at low level. Once you're maxxed, there are enough points for a 66661 with one point left over (for builds that don't go with four maxed trees), so it doesn't take anything away compared to ME3 builds, and gives you an extra point. But it's annoying.

I did 6/6/6/5/3 double-Novaguard in ME3MP, but the timings seemed easier than with the above build, as you can get shot with those gaps between powers.
I'm wondering if on the Barrier choices, going all B's might work better? As max shields aren't super useful, being just the battery for Nova, having an earlier and faster recharge may be more useful. But more about Barrier Drain vs Biotic Alacrity: being able to charge, Nova, punch once, then Nova if that works? You'd be abusing the no-cooldown more than the occasional double Nova.
We really need a builder like Narida to examine just how much the different options adjust force, cooldowns etc...

For those who don't know: Nova's strength is no longer dependent on Barrier strength, it's a flat value. And yes, he can hold his own in Gold. Armored Outlaw units melt. Berserkers are a little tougher, obviously In my experience, barrier 4a with a nova-guard is risky, because you can nova immediately if your shield starts recharging; so faster recharge means faster nova. Also, the shock trooper just didn't make the recharge fast enough to counter the lack of 50% shields AND additional damage reduction that comes with bastion. So instead I have a pretty weird setup (after a few respecs): Charge: 4b, 5a(!), 6b(!) Nova: 4b(?), 5a, 6b Shockwave: 1 Apex Training: 4b, 5a, 6b Barrier: 4b(!), 5b(!), 6a The general way of doing things is Charge Melee Nova Melee Nova Melee Charge Melee Nova Melee Nova Melee and so on. (hence the melee synergy on charge) I'm not sure if radius or damage is better for nova in this scenario. I prefer radius. For melting gold outlaws and remnant, this is pretty neat! Kett is annoying because you can't really melee them properly.
