I know, I know, the game is not even out in Europe, and already I’m planning how to best min max my builds. Vanguarding is a tough job though, yet one I’m grown used to love through ME: I suppose, it has become my shtick (hence the title).
At the moment, I’m torn between the Crusader and the Hesh for my trip of death in Andromeda, but I would like to know what others think of the new shotguns and to exchange some points of view regarding the vanguard creed:
To boldly coming, in your face, with a shotgun.
Also, to those who prefer pistols or SMG, I hope this place could offer some pointers to try a different shtick (bigger ones). Sniper Rifle aren’t really my thing, so excuse me while I placidly ignore them all.
Shotguns, shotguns, shotguns! Why?
Because what’s better than shotguns, to offers flowers of hypersonic bullets to the enemies’ head?
Andromeda’s shotgun, if I’m not mistaken, are the following:
N7 Crusader
N7 Deep Impact (Pre order only)
Dhan
Disciple
Hesh
M-23 Katana
N7 Piranha
Reegar Carbine
Ruzad
Scattershot
Venom
Among them, I think for the moment is necessary to highlight only the following. The rest, while enjoyable in their own way, I think it could be considered subordinate to these ones, in one way or another (Venom is more of a grenade launcher, and the Reegar should be approached as a flamethrower).
Crusader
Dahn
Hesh
I also would like to receive some feedbacks on Ruzad and scattershot, both of them I really don’t know anything about other than vague impression captured from videos: am I wrong in considering the Ruzad the new Claymore? And what about the scattershot, if there is anything good about it?
Dahn:
The Dahn is a difficult shotgun: with a miserable clip of 2 shots before needing to reload, it does seem very punitive to master. Also, it isn’t a hit scan weapons (the bullet travel somewhat slowly) and it shoots one single slug that ricochet on surface, falling with a trajectory similar to that of a grenade. So, why should we bother with it? Highest flat damage that I know among all the shotguns in Andromeda. And if we apply a laser mod, I suppose the dahn would transform from a high damage crossbow to a hit scan weapon with a veeery high damage, similar to a sniper rifle with double tap included in the package. Don’t like the laser? Then I suppose a grenade launcher mod would make the dahn the meanest brother of an RPG.
Hesh:
While being it too a Kett weapon, the Hesh is more proper shotgun: with a decent spread of bullets, I suppose it’s the best mate for a vanguard who is always charging, able to unleash its full complement of teeth in seconds. But the true strength of the Hesh lays in its clip: a shotgun with a clip size of ten is very good. But when the same shotgun is a semi auto, well, it’s better. While being somewhat on the light side of weight, the HESH can be used to barrage a choke point, or to reduce a single, stronger mob in a pile of bloodied and trembling meat. It greatest shortage lays in the spread though, so it could be wise to equip it in tandem with a more longer range weapon: SR or HP should do the trick against those pesky flying remnant or the more… tall among them.
Crusader:
An old horse from the past game, the N7 Crusader is still the heavy bastard we knew: still, it offer many pros to its terrible weigh. It’s a sniper rifle in all but name, allowing for a vanguard to hit enemies at every distance: probably you wouldn’t be able to bring another weapon with you while keeping the cooldown at 100%, especially at the start of the adventure… but again, the Crusader hardly needs a companion. And in my opinion, if you have to wait for charge cooldown, but you can’t hit the farthest enemies, your killing below your best quota. For the moment, I think I will start with it, if people hasn’t better suggestion, and I intend to mod it like crazy.
Anyone else who has something to say on shotguns please feel free to post it here, and headbutt back your krogan mates on the way out.
