Hey all - just getting into the game and playing it is feeling very awkward. I'm on PC.
There are segments in the first mission where you have to platform across cliffs. To make some of the jumps I think you have to SPRINT, MOVE in the right direction, JUMP, and maybe even HOVER to close the gaps. I'm very slow at this because I don't have enough hands to access two areas of my keyboard and my mouse at the same time - so I find myself pointing my character in the right direction, backing up, and then making the run/climb/jump.
Would I be better off just getting a controller?

I use the jump then dodge button to make long jumps.
I always switch to the controller for the Nomad though, on keyboard it feels awful.

I'll give that a try - maybe I just need to get used to how this game controls. I can already tell without a controller I will probably need to find some sort of more "stationary" combat style because moving my character around feels janky when I have to press too many buttons to do things.
Maybe I'll go biotic? Hopefully you don't need to run jump and aim a gun in combat since I'm having a hard time making long jumps outside of combat.

If you're one handed I'm not sure controller would be better. I think there isn't a single section that requires you to do something special with platforming. You can definitely aim and jump, the trick is to hold the forward button, because if you don't it won't hold onto ledges. Just take it slow, no rush, just aim towards the jump, press forward and jump. You don't need to hover, that is only for fights. You can make your jump longer or shorter depending on how long you hold the jump button or if you sprint while jumping. Sorry for any confusion - I have two hands just I wasn't able to move, jump/sprint and use right mouse click at the same time. Knowing I don't need to hover for any jumps helps. Does anyone remember Super Mario 2 for the NES? I thought Ryder was like playing the Princess where you have to hover so you jump longer across gaps lol.

You don't really have to sprint either. As long as you are moving forward when you jump, that momentum should help you reach any platform that the game expects you to. I use KB/M but that's because I've been playing games like Quake and Tribes since I was a kid. Just go with whichever feels most comfortable for you.

I've always been a mouse/keyboard user so I keep everything bound to left side of my keyboard that gets used a lot. Plus my keyboard has extra keys below space bar to bind to. So easy reach for thumb. Buttons on left side to bind to that's easy for pinky to reach. Mouse is a MMO type, lots of buttons.

I feel it's fine but I rebound the evade key to V since that's what i use to dodge in every game ever. Middle mouse button is just to awkward to use.

I'm sure it's user error but it's annoying.

Playing now with the newer Dual Shock 4 and it's fine. Get DS4Windows - small freeware program. Run it before you run ME:A The caveat - the game thinks you are using an XBox controller, so you'll have to mentally convert the symbols. Another caveat for me - Windows 10 doesn't do a very good job on BlueTooth - it recognizes the controller (and headset) but mostly ignores it and works so sporadically, that I just use the DS4 wired. Apparently it worked well before the Anniversary Update...

Would I be better off just getting a controller? I haven't personally had any problems jumping, just with the Nomad. What do you mean by two areas of the keyboard? I have fairly short fingers, but to sprint and jump I have my pinky on Shift, middle finger on W, and thumb on Space, then steer with the mouse. I'm not sure if that helps at all, or even answers your question?

I will try it out, but the mental conversion will probably throw me for a loop. I have a couple of 3' x 3" sticky notes on the bottom edge of the monitor. One has the XBOX Y-B-A-X layout and the other has a couple of Keyboard ones that I forget, since the keyboard is still accessible while using the DS4. And another one for MP. Eventually muscle memory will take over. When I injured my shoulder, I found the controller was a lot more kinder...

I'm handling it just fine, but I also have an MMO mouse so I moved a bunch of functions from the keyboard over to it.

If you need to slow things down, draw your weapon, jump and hover (default: right mouse), then turn to which ever direction you want and then dash (without releasing right mouse).

Works very fine for me, albeit admittedly I have a mouse with several buttons. I bound the dash to the thumb button and it works flawlessly.

I tried using my Stratus XL for this game, but I haven't been able to get it to work. That lead me to wanting to use my Logitech G13, but again, something is funky with it so that doesn't work either. I'm using a Logitech G710+ keyboard with a Razor Naga Hex mouse. It took about 20 to get used to it (and I still have difficulty finding alt sometimes) but for the most part, it is working pretty well. Can't say I have had much trouble making jumps, seems pretty easy and straightforward - just jump pack and then (if needed) and then evade towards the location you want to get to. I also have small hands and have no problem keeping my pinky on sprint and my thumb on space while keeping my middle finger on W. I use the default key bindings and haven't had a problem yet.
Best of luck.

Would I be better off just getting a controller? Have you used a controller before? If so and you have one you could give it a shot. Alas though there are those that a controller would not work for -me and my '09 Kirk Hands included. Otherwise would probably be easier to reconfigure the keyboard controls. No offense to those using them but the default control scheme for the keyboard seems ......all over the place. I know it may not be personal taste for many here but I keep all the keys that I am going to use close to my movement keys. I personally use the arrow keys, the Insert pad, the keypad, Backspace, \,Enter, Right Shift and Right Crtl plus the 5 button mouse and scroll wheel scroll and scroll wheel button.... Speaking of that can you bind all the necessary buttons for SPRINT, MOVE and JUMP to your mouse?
