Hey all, just wondering I've played for a bit and have gotten 80 in each stat. I'm just wondering if or when I will start noticing a difference when I play. While I definitely notice it in threatening on perilous I feel extremely underpowered even when playing the op classes (AW, SS, Reaver) Is it more gear towards the gear I have or what? I have a hakkon staff and my AW is pretty good (No PI amulet ) but the damage I take seems to counteract any and if not all of my damage and efforts to stay alive. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It's half and half. Gear makes a big difference, but promotions weigh in heavily. I'd recommend having some heal on kill but building mainly for cunning and crit chance to maximise damage output, especially with a Hakkon weapon. Using the right build also helps. Combat Roll and Fade Cloak add a lot to survivability, for example.
But you're already taking only 65% of the damage you'd be taking without promotions, critting 40% of the time before gear, and carrying around 400 bonus health. IIRC, base health is 450, so it's a considerable increase that's multiplicative when you consider damage reduction from defenses and the fact that more health = more healing.
It's just hard to notice when the game gets easier because the change is so gradual. Best thing to do is take note of your incoming/outgoing damage and compare it further down the line.

I agree with Minuos. It is a gradual change. You'll never just hit a certain number of promotions and suddenly feel a difference. However, you will feel an immediate difference with the end game gear (assuming your promotions are high enough to make use of them, mainly your cunning score for crit chance). Every time I got a new Hakkon (or in some cases other high level weapons), my increased damage numbers happily surprised me. Assuming you have heal on kill, killing faster helps with survival. And along the way, survival will get easier and easier as you keep promoting. You'll feel more comfortable taking other agents into NM, etc. NM is still a challenge since enemy health jumps significantly from the perilous levels...
My general thinking is (at least in the beginning) promotions help you survive, gear helps you thrive. With your promotions, you are probably at the point where you will start to feel more comfortable taking more of the non-OP agents into NM. Agents like the Necromancer and Avvar are probably still a challenge due to their squishiness but maybe soon they will be next. Truly, NM is tricky without the PI until a few more promotes but you can counter that by choosing abilities that help you recover from knockdown such as fade cloak, leaping shot, payback strike, combat roll (which I've almost never used haha but others swear by), etc.

I would echo what has already been said. Also, pay attention to play-style. On NM, and for tough factions on Perilous, you can't stand out in the open often (if you are in LOS you get chewed up by ranged attacks) or face large mobs (too much aggro to compensate for). Use corners, choke-points, hit-and-run, and team coordination. Also, keep emphasizing cunning and crit chance in equipment and promotes. It increases ranged defence which is often what gets you killed (or least, it does me), and rogues and warriors benefit so much from crit chance in terms of cooldowns using flow of battle passive. Also, if you haven't already, check out tried and true builds for various characters. It's amazing how much difference it can make: bsn.boards.net/post/214879/threadI started a second account just to see how viable these characters are without promotes. At stats 10/10/10, with level 20 characters, I've been able to hold my own with most classes on perilous, and survive until stage 5 on nightmare with tankier characters without getting carried too much (ss, AW, Saarebas). Good luck!

Got a question about promotion limits. I've read that the defenses(melee, rangend, magic) and critical chance are capped at 75%. What about the health bonus and damage bonus? Are they capped to? What are their limits?

Cap is 80%, so you need 170 in all three stats, because it start to incrise after 10. 200 Cunning will give you 100% critical chance, so no point to go beyond that Constitution will give you +5 health per promotion and it has no limit Willpower will give you +0,5% to attack per promotion and it has no limit

Thanks guys, nice info! So only rogues gets meaningless to keep promoting at a certain point. Nice profile Silversmurf, good info and easy to acess.
