Obviously NSFW: Wtf? That's like night and day compared to the animations in the rest of the game. Those faces and expressions are actually well in line with the type of quality we should expect in 2017. This kinda shows they were capable of doing a good job with the faces and animations the whole time. Unless I'm missing something here?

That scene was hand-crafted by specifically designated artist and likely cost quite a bit. You can't expect each scene in big RPG to be like that, it's way too expensive.

There was a thread about animations recently. The upshot was the hat the design approach was apparently to do a bunch of procedural basic animations and hand-tune the refinements later.
This is exactly the sort of thing we'd expect to see.

For a 2017 AAA video game of this budget and 5 years in the making, I should have expected dozens, if not hundreds of "specifically designated artists" handcrafting virtually every scene of the game. That would have made me feel I've paid for a AAA game and I received one of that quality not a AA- 2010 one (animation wise).

To have 'dozens, if not hundreds artists handcrafting virtually every scene in the game' you'd have to practically cut everything else and get only MEA movie. MEA's budget is estimated to be about 40 million. If that's true, that's less than 1/4 of your average Hollywood blockbuster 1,5 hour movie. And you have to divide that budget between hundreds of hours of content and many supporting gameplay systems. I mean, heck - Horizon Zero Dawn was about two times shorter and had a fixed, uncustomizable protagonist and mo-capped facial animations, and even their animations were criticized at times. And I'm not saying that there's no room for improvement when it comes to MEA animations - heck, there's a lot of it - but you seem to have ideas about game development that are far away from reality.

There isn't any big open-world RPG that consistently has good animation in every scene. You have to pick and choose what scenes you want to be high quality and which are going to be lesser quality. It's a lot like animating a cartoon series. You dedicate budget and the best studios for the episodes that are more important and filler or unimportant episodes have a smaller budget and cheaper studios working on the episodes. Andromeda has some really, really terrible robotic animations and characters in some scenes. But it also has scenes where the characters emote and act fairly well, which are usually found in story and loyalty missions.

This was their motivation for creating the game. They put all focus in here, obviously. Even the critics are somewhat cringing at how hard they pandered to their "romance" fans in this one.

Those were some damned good butt animations. Prolly better than the faces... Sorry, feeling goofy. You make fair point and all, but I hadn't seen this before, and I am cackling like a crazy old lady over here. Ahhh...dat butt... This really made my day... Edited - Oh god...just watched again. Tears streaming down my face. BOTH DEM BUTTS! BWAHAHAHAHHAHHAAA!!!! *cough* calming down....just breathe...damn...hiccups... ahem...the facial animations are really nice in this. Very expressive. Agree there is a big difference to the rest of the game.

Their romance fans are primarily straight dudes? Huh. And here we've been told over and over again that it was ladies and GLBT folk demanding romances catered to them that was taking attention away from "the important stuff" and ruining BW. Also, come on, dude. Their motivation for creating a game that clocks in at over 50 hours of content wasn't romances, which probably comprises less than an hour of that total and is handled primarily through standard dialogues and emails.

As I said, ME:A is about StraightBoyRyder jamming his dick into every black hole he can find. So of course the devs are going to dump money into his conquest for poon. That's important!
I mean, whatever, my canon PC has Jaal to properly navigate the little man in Sara's boat, so whatever. Sad that not everyone got some soft core porn to get them through the fetch quests.

You paid $60 for a game (that's what maybe 2 hours of work with an entry level job out of college?) that gives you 60+ hours at a miniumum of very detailed and gorgeous open world RPG gameplay. Some games cost the same and are over in 10-15 hours. If a few bad facial animations really ruins an experience where you play a dollar per hour, I would hate to know exactly how shallow and petty you with real life things and experiences.

If a few bad facial animations really ruins an experience where you play a dollar per hour, I would hate to know exactly how shallow and petty you with real life things and experiences. 60+ hours of a very detailed and gorgeously tedious fetch quest fest, buggy and glitchy as hell. A game with a writing that is so bad and uninspiring, that could be laugh inducing matter if it wasn't so cringeworthy, as are 99% of its hideous animations. Did I mention that most companions are on the "meh" side of the interesting spectrum?. But do not worry, Cora's butt is gorgeous, as we can all appreciate it from the professionally well animated soft porn scene, above. The animations in this game are so bad that even some the foundational creative minds of Mass Effect trilogy are laughing about it on Twitter. ...And then you start mumbling some nonsense about me being shallow in real life blah blah blah. I told you it was too early to get off your meds.
