This is the honest to goodness truth, when i finished ME:A I thought "well that was basically the ME equivalent of The Force Awakens."
That's that's not to say its a bad thing, i enjoyed the game, and so did the OP if you read their review, it is certainly a Mass Effect game as well. I think they have a good foundation to leap from, which is what The Force Awakens was, it's used old characters and overarching themes to ground players to the original, and it ended strong with people satisfied that it was a good story in of itself but left enough mystery that you want more.
Top marks for effort by the team for sure, just lacking a bit on execution. Hopeful for the future.

Wait, are you saying this is a good thing or a bad thing because I liked the Force Awakens, and I like MEA as well? Truth is the OP is right, Andromeda has generated as much hate as it has love. To some it's the worst thing Bioware & EA have ever put out and to others it's a return to form for the series Very much like the Force Awakens

ME1 had a very very decent story Saren didn't need the conduit, he had spectre access to the chamber where the control panel is. ME1 should have been over before it started. Great story. I think the matter isn't as simple as flipping some switches but also having a massive army of Krogan and Geth to assist the invasion. Not to mention, once Saren opens the gateway for Sovereign (who needs to be there) as well as shuts down the Mass Effect relays, it'd be a pretty simple job to just arrest him and switch them back on. The Protheans did a pretty good job of sabotaging everything after all. A lot of stuff happens in Mass Effect because DRAMATIC and EXPLOSIONS but that doesn't mean it's a plot hole. The game was clear Saren needed to invade and occupy the Citadel while he figured out how to repair what the Protheans did.

IIRC Saren didn't get all the facts about the conduit until he encountered the Thorian, which was after his Spectre access was revoked.

I said it in my review: unitedfederationofcharles.blogspot.com/2017/03/mass-effect-andromeda-review.htmlThis is an apology game for ME3. It makes up for all of the common complaints about ME3 but doesn't really do anything new. Hell, it feels very much like ME1. Almost identical in some places. All designed to make fans of the series comfortable with the new direction and wash the bad taste out of fan's mouths. It does feel like the TFA of Mass Effect but arguably does a bit more than TFA did, I think. The premise is different enough. The nexus and the pathfinder is not a 1:1 repeat of what the Spectres were, but then again a third through the plot your goal becomes literally "Hunt the Archon" and there's the Scourge which is a spread of Dark Energy so essentially the Reapers and then the Kett are the almost faceless enemies that the Geth were in ME1, so it all checks out at some point.

As a "greatest hits" of Mass Effect, it's not bad.
Fallout 3 did well by doing the same thing.

Did MEA completely and utterly skullfuck the previously established universe and wipe it from canon? Did it do the exact same thing beat for beat as ME1 despite claiming the aforementioned skullfuckery was so the writers could be "creatively free to establish their own direction"?
Then it's not like TFA.
Whatever criticisms Andromeda may draw, let's not get carried away.

I thought the same thing, but, while Star Wars was successful, ME:A took the things that needed to be changed, and kept them the same, or the story is far less interesting and more bland. I don't think they fixed what they needed to instead of moved backwards by putting the vehicle and mining back into the game. The only thing I think is an improvement is getting rid of the magnetic cover system.

One thing's for sure, TFA is much better put together as a movie than ME:A is as a game
