So I've been investing all my time in the MP since the trial. I finally started the story last night and have made it to the nexsus where I opened all my Pathfinder rewards. I thought repeated unlocks of the same weapon would raise the weapons' rank like in the MP but to my surprise, I received weapons that are duplicates. I'm guessing it's recommend to to sell/deconstruct for resources? Also, how would I go about raising the rank of my weapons?
Lastly, what exactly contributes to taking up space in my inventory?

Deconstruct rather then sell. Materials for crafting are worth more than the credits.
As for rank, Loot rank scales with your character level. You can use research points to research the blueprints for higher rank gear, which you can then craft at a research terminal. But if you loot a weapon or armor, you'll also automatically get the blueprint for it, so you can craft higher level gear without going through all the reasearch ranks if you find a piece in containers or on enemies.

To rank up weapons in SP you either have to level up to unlock the next rank to build in the research lab, or find in loot. Or for some weapons the only way to get them is to research and then make them in the research lab.
I think its every 5 levels unlock the next upgrade, then at some point it turns to 10 levels. The max level of a gun is 10 i believe, 6-10 unlock after you research the level V.
Every mod, every weapon, every armour piece, every stack of consumable every stack of salvage count towards your inventory.
Best to sell mods for weapons you don't use. Deconstruct all armour/weapons you don't use.

I figured deconstructing for resources would be more beneficial than selling.
As for pathfinder weapon loot crates. In order to unlock a level 2 or higher do i have to have the R&D already purchased or is it based on my level? For example, if i want to uncrate a level 2 weapon do i wait to be level 5?

Yep when using the crates gained from apex missions the item you get will be linked to your level at the time of opening. So basic crate = Bronze gear linked to your level 2nd tier crate = Silver/Gold gear linked to your level 3rd tier crate = Gold/Rare gear linked to your level

The reintroduction of the looting & inventory system is probably one of the most frustrating game system reboots from ME1 they included. I really, really wish we could have kept the vastly superior equipment system from ME2 and ME3. It made every weapon and armour piece feel special. Now we're running around picking up the seemingly same piece of gear for the gazillionth time for no reason at all. I hope they reconsider this particular choice for future installments.

I've finished the game and I don't recommend deconstructing all weapons. Keep and sell half of them. You are not gonna get enough research points to research and make everything even if you have the angelic patience to scan every single piece of rock and alien tech you bump into. So if you want to mix and try many different weapons you'll need a good chunk of credits to buy them and weapons are worth a lot. Deconstruct everything else (armor, mods) since it's otherwise worthless.
Ofc if you're determined to play as a sniper your entire playthrough then credits are almost completely useless for you. Just make Black Widow or Isharay (the only good rifles on Challenging and Insanity) and go to town.

I'm more about close quarters and moving around. AR's and shotguns more my style. Crusader and maybe Valkyrie will be my weapons of choice. Guess I'll hold off on opening gold crates until I rank up.

My initiative pieces were deconstruct-able.

I deconstruct all gear I find in campaign, all of it. Better used as resources. I craft my own weapons and armour, have not once used anything I picked up via a dead body, a loot chest or just cause.
It does seem easier to level up certain things in MP though, bit nicer then ME3. Though I will say MP is definitely harder.
Saw someone say you don't get enough resources to research everything... not once did I believe the point of this was to research everything, seems a little silly! I research ALL augments, and choice selections from each group, IE weapon, armour. The Heleus armour works for body, legs and arms. Where as, for example, Remnant armour only fills your chest slot. Leaving legs and arms bare. 1 item vs 3 items.
Would kind of be the point on newgame+ imHo.
To poster above me, sadly you can't deconstruct mods. I get so many I find that I just destroy them all for the inventory space, as selling them for about 100~ credits each isn't worth the salt. Make money from salvage only, no worries there.
Edit: the Isharay sniper rifle is one of two weapons I crafted during my play-through, that and the P.A.W. When modded while crafting, it is very powerful. On Hard I was hitting Fiends for at least 40% one hit, with explosive shells (as a plasma/energy weapon).

I have the PAW on MP and it reminds me of the Particle rifle from ME3 which was great, so i'm waiting to pick that up. I agree, i do not intend to craft everything just specific items tailored to my stats and play style. Sadly, the N7 amour caters to biotics which isn't really my thing so as a starter I'm using the pre-order amour (forgot the name) which buffs my weapons. Thanks for the input community!
