Yes it will. And people who already have the game will receive Definitive Edition for free. I was trying to find a way to pre order it so I could get the Squirrel Quest. But on Amazon, it's two Console Options and on Microsoft it's one console option. And I couldn't find the Definitive Edition on Steam at all. When I go to what seems like their main website, the "shop" tab only takes me to the Collector's $170 edition.

I got the Eternal Edition on GOG because it came with five games. Pretty sure it was cheaper than 170 dollars.

DE and free for those who already have the game? This is great news! Looking forward to playing it again.

They have set a precedent with the Enhanced Edition for DOS I. Now people expect them to get the more polished version for free. I guess that's one way to keep your fanbase happy. They can deliver a faulty game at launch (though it got good reviews as it was), but risk no backlash as it so often happens for other games. Plus the public opinion of their studio improves for giving things out for "free", similar to what CDPR did for the Witcher. The additional work must pay out in the long run, or they wouldn't be doing this.

I've pre-ordered the PS4 port. I hope it's better than the 1st one, which I couldn't bring myself to finish. In fact I never got past the first town.

Given how a lot of sources mentioned that the 2nd game was an improvement over the first. I risked the gamble and I tried the 2nd. It payed off marvelously.
Far more enjoyable I might add and less clunky to start with than how I felt with the first game.
So I'm glad I made that gamble in the end, but that was just me. Hope you can enjoy it too in the end!

Well that's good to hear. I hope the writing is more concise as well; the massive infodumping early on, and the sheer amount of time it takes NPCs to impart information in the 1st one is utter torture, and the game really was not optimised for console at all. The UI and text were just painful to try and read. I have a much bigger tv now, hopefully that will help.

So far I really like both (will probably hold it on more D:OS2 until the definitive edition is out though) but from what I’ve seen the second one does seem much less verbose.

The additional work must pay out in the long run, or they wouldn't be doing this. To be fair it's not like DOS2 came full of game breaking bugs on release. Game is very stable from what i remember. I had no issues with stability, but the ending was lacking in more than one ways. My biggest problems were that it didn't acknowledge some things I did, while slide show mentioned things I definitely did not. Then the final battle just ended. I'm still not sure if I won or if it was a bug, it was just over all of a sudden. They also said they would add more content to the endgame with the DE, so I take it I wasn't the only one who found that part subpar, bugs aside. It felt like they had run out of time towards the end, or playtesting wasn't as thorough on this part. And while it is only a small portion, it still leaves a bad impression of the whole game, even if the rest is good. In other cases even smaller mistakes have been enough for some to fetch the torches and pitchforkes, but Larian seems to be doing just fine depite some big issues in the game and I'm suspecting giving out freebies has something to do with it.

The Torturer talent will allow you to apply status effects through magic or physical armor.
This alone is worth several more playthroughs.

So anyone know if there are any plans for new origin characters in the EE or perhaps maybe implementing one of the skill trees that did not make the cut in the original version of the game?
Or is the Squirrel Knight the only thing they are adding so far as new content goes?

Or is the Squirrel Knight the only thing they are adding so far as new content goes? As far as content goes, they say the final act has been "largely rewritten" So I would expect quite a bit of the late game content has been added, moved, or removed.
Nothing about new origins. Nor of new skills, but there are mods out there that add or alter skills.

I absolutely loved escaping from Fort Joy and the first island (whatever that was called).
I then got a fair way into the Reaper Coast before pretty much hitting a wall. The game seems quite sensitive to not leveling optimally, which is a bit of shame considering how much freedom it gives you to approach things different ways. Unless I’m just not very good at it of course?
So I took a break and every time I give it another go, I can’t really get into it. Not sure if I should go back to the re spec point or wait for the update and see what’s changed.
It’s a great game though. I probably gave up a bit too easily.

Yeah it's very important to do side quests or you'll find yourself underleveled for the main story.

Being underleveled will fuck you over. If you're more than 1 level under the enemies you're fighting, you need to know what you're doing or you're gonna get stomped.
That being said, if you know what you're doing the game is an absolute cakewalk. I've done solo (1 character only) playthroughs on honor mode before.

Sorry, guys. I forgot to reply to this. Thanks for the tips.
I have done as many side quests as could work out (love that you pick up quests with no idea what to do and hopefully work it out as you go along). I even returned to Fort Joy to mop up all the other escape routes.
But I think the problem was more how I leveled than being under leveled. In the original Original Sin (hmmm) I created some pretty balanced characters, and that seemed to work well. However, after reading some hints, it seems you should concentrate on the main damage dealing stat and skills to keep up.
So Ifan my cleric/warrior was supposed to be my main healer and a bit of a melee tank. So I leveled strength, constitution, intelligence, and a bit of memory.
Other characters are probably spread a bit thin as well. This worked out pretty well early game, but I’m not sure it’s set me well for the rest of the game. Fane was supposed to be mainly fire, geo and air, but as I mainly pumped up his intelligence (and memory), I’ve given him hydro as well to make another healer (not for himself sadly, he always bites it).
I’ve heard it’s much easier to make everyone physical damage dealing, but that doesn’t sound much fun, so sod that.
If anyone knows if this kind of haphazard approach to leveling is viable, or if I’ve screwed myself too much, that would be great.

Does the console version of this have access to mods as well? Might be too much to ask for, but then again Bethesda doesn't seem to have any trouble with it.

Okay, so I pre-ordered (ya I know....bad gamer!) and am currently playing the game preview.
I'm rocking a lizard rogue, and that "feedback" guy cracked me up. I just reached Fort Joy, and I'm currently walking around and poking things that look interesting.
So far, so good.

If anyone knows if this kind of haphazard approach to leveling is viable, or if I’ve screwed myself too much, that would be great. If you want to be a min/maxing dickhead like me, then you should pump your main damage stat (STR/DEX/INT) until it maxes out while dropping points into other attributes along the way only as is needed. Once that's maxed out, move onto wits for crit chance while still dropping points in other things along the way as needed. I generally only get my skills up to the minimum required to use what moves I want and then put the rest into Polymorph for extra attribute points unless i'm doing something very very specific. You'll normally get all of the damage you need purely out of your damage attribute and don't need to pump the skills for the extra damage.

Not really interested in min/maxing, I’d prefer to play the game naturally and just have fun with the characters and their abilities.
But I’d prefer not to have to restart fights several times because I’m getting stomped on. If it’s just a small hump I’m going through, I’ll stick with it. However if it’s only going to get worse because I spread myself too thin, maybe I should go back.
Playing on classic, btw.
