^ I wonder who's pulling off Cullen's undies in that last pic... That's something my canon inky would do..

Hi, I am new here. I was never a member of the official BSN forums and actually just got into Dragon Age. I am excited to romance Cullen - I haven't played DA: I and in fact bought the game for PC about... oh, well, 20 seconds ago. I am currently romancing Alistair in my first play through of DA: O and I can't believe that Cullen was in Origins!! I am also a huge Kaidan fan for Mass Effect so hopefully more of that kind of fluff with an actual happy ending this time with Cullen.

It's the first one I played...I just got into Dragon Age last fall, actually. (And I wasn't on the original forums, either. Yay us for finding this place!) But yes, Cullen and the Inquisitor can have a happy ending, depending on certain choices. It is a very sweet romance, though I personally prefer Dorian's (don't hurt me, Cullen thread )

You're talking my language. You don't happen to be playing as a mage in Origins, are you? Are you planning to play DA2 also? If you like, you can also visit Kaidan's fan thread. (I'd give you a link to Alistair's thread but it's filled with spoilers, so... Best to not for now.) Cullen's romance is, indeed, fluffy. Don't worry. I adore Dorian as well. I mean, he's Dorian. He's too fabulous to not like. When I play as a female I'm compelled to romance Cullen, and romance Dorian when I'm playing a male. It's a win either way.

@spirit vanguard Thanks for the welcome I kind of felt bad for Cullen when I didn't romance him, though. I kept picturing him all alone, after everything he's been through. So I headcanoned that he meets a nice former templar and they can live happily ever after, if the Inquisitor doesn't end up with him. Teeheehee

I'm glad also that I have another newbie... Cullenites (Is that what we're called) unite! Imma wander over to the Kaidan thread.

I almost let them scare me off, but decided to play anyway so I could get the whole story before DAI, and I'm really glad I did. DA2 has my favorite characters of the trilogy, my favorite PC, and my favorite overall story...I like the smaller scale, the idea that Hawke is an ordinary person who just wants to take care of her/his family and gets swept up into a huge mess. I agree with all the gripes over recycled environments, but that wasn't nearly enough to ruin the game for me. Also, Cullen has a bigger role in DA2 compared to Origins, although he is not a romance option until DAI. I hope you'll give it a try

So I headcanoned that he meets a nice former templar and they can live happily ever after, if the Inquisitor doesn't end up with him. Teeheehee I don't think I've ever noticed how... sparkly Cullen looks in that scene. Same. The thing about it, though, is that both Cullen and Dorian have restrictions, so it turns into a "I wanted to but couldn't" and that helps me to not feel so guilty when I don't romance them. But I'll still miss them. They're part of the reason I still haven't done all the romances yet. Thanks for all the warm welcomes! Heh, I thought about playing DAII but I was scared away with its poor reviews. Also, I'm fighting to get through Origins as fast as I can rn so that I can get to that Cullen fluff. I'm glad also that I have another newbie... Cullenites (Is that what we're called) unite! Imma wander over to the Kaidan thread. I can understand that. I'm one of those few who actually enjoy DA2 despite it's failings (and a couple of my favorite characters are in it). Even so, I think it's good to play it because there will be a gap in the universal story if you skip to DAI. Part of Cullen's backstory also happens in DA2, so... You could always set the combat to casual for both games if you want to move faster. Or I guess you could youtube it. Edit: kinda ninja'd by dragontartare, with whom I agree.

DA2 is good in that it sets the scene for DAI. I'm among those that didn't particularly care for DA2 although I loved romancing Anders. And actually playing through both DAO and DA2 isn't necessary because you can set up your world state in the Keep. Doing that, however, you miss the game play of the first 2 games. In comparison, DA2 is a rather quick game.

So, I had a thought/question concerning the chess scene. Spoilers ahead, so beware newbie!
My first playthrough was Trevelyan/Cullen, so it made sense for Cullen to get all nervous when Quizzy approaches the chess table. He's got a huge crush on her, after all. However, my second playthrough was Lavellan/Dorian, with NO flirting whatsoever with Cullen...and the chess scene went the same way, aside from flirt options. Cullen is still all nervous and self-conscious throughout the scene.
What's up with that? Does Cullen have a little crush on the Inquisitor no matter what? Is this a leftover from when Cullen was supposed to be bisexual (or player-sexual)? Is the scene skewed somehow in my mind because my first PT was a Cullen romance?

You could headcanon that he's into the Inq no matter what. But I think it's really just his awkwardness showing. He's been on the uptight side and remained professional with others, so a moment of leisure like that was uncommon and he was caught off-guard by the Inq. Kinda like Cassandra and her romance novels.

Fair enough. Cullen seemed perfectly at ease playing against Dorian, but I guess Dorian isn't "the dread Inquisitor," after all I think I'll skip headcanoning the Quizzy crush. I actually didn't really like the idea. Poor Cullen got enough unrequited love in Origins. For a taste of WTF, there's this: Click for animation (Cullen is in a section near the beginning.)

I was going through some fanart the day before and found this really good Post-Haven one. brilcrist.tumblr.com/post/114294014879/ive-got-him-cassandra-coz-i-sawWhen I play, regardless of whether my inquisitor is male or female, I always get the impression that Cullen is wary towards the character. There's even a point that, if you decide to side with the mages, and you're a mage yourself, you can actually confront him about it ('Do you have a problem with me, too?'). And then Haven happens and everything shifts. He and Quizzie interact a lot more there, cooperating and trying to figure out the best way to defend Haven and then the Inquisitor has to stay behind, even sacrifice him/herself, if need be. After that, he seems to be more open, partly because feels guilty about what happened. (That's clearer if you play as a female inquisitor and you choose the flirt option at Skyhold). And then, there's the chess scene and the lyrium one, and you've got a very neat, very smooth progression to solid friendship or deep love. That's pretty awesome, really.

Yeah, that's what I noticed too. Cullen is reserved when the Inquisitor first talks to him, but he warms up once he gets to know the Inquisitor more. Especially after Haven.
The thing that I didn't like was the dialogue option where the Inquisitor asks Cullen about celibacy. I think that was a bit too personal to ask someone, who you don't know very well. I avoid that question whenever my Inquisitors talk to Cullen.

But then I've been known to ask questions like that and I figure if you're curious, why not. Sometimes pussyfooting around an issue gets confusing and frustrating and a straight out question clarifies a lot. He could've refused to answer.

^ You also only get that celibacy dialogue with a romanceable Inq. I kind of saw it as a bit of troll question. Just trying to have a little fun with him, and he does try to change the subject. But I agree that his overall character story is built great as friend or romance -- it just feels like I should be romancing him all the time. That's probably more me than the game.

Sometimes pussyfooting around an issue gets confusing and frustrating and a straight out question clarifies a lot. He could've refused to answer. That's true. But then, I'm not the type to directly ask about personal stuff that's none of my business. It's like the Inquisitor asking Cullen about what happened in Ferelden's circle tower. At first, he didn't want to talk about it, because it's a sensitive topic. Later, he tells her. Not only because she's his leader and has a right to know, but he knows and trusts her well enough to tell the story. Another example is when the Inquisitor asks Cassandra about her brother. It's a little different, because it's approval based. If her approval is high, she'll explain what happened and there's a dialogue option for the Inquisitor to apologize for prying. She'll say, "No, it's fine" and continues her story. But if Cassandra's approval is low, she'll refuse to talk about it.
