Hi everyone. Since MEA isn't out already and I'm not playing anything these days, I feel a little bit hollow.
These forums were created, and I joined but I didn't post since the introduction. So I think it's absolutely time I'd contribute anything.
Since I don't know much about ME:A save for the sole idea it's coming and that it will be about exploring new galaxy, with all the familiar races and whatnot, I thought that we could brainstorm some ME:A story and do some funny pictures. The idea is to have some community-made hero, that we could all have fun with and see where it gets us.
If you remember from the original forums, there was a thread about ME3 Paint Adventures with some amazing pixel art that was very funny. The story would go to places the posters suggested, which was - to me - very engaging and fun. I think that I could improve upon this idea a bit in that:
1. HOW WE'LL DO IT.
Now, I am (in real life) a stage artist (as a hobby; I did a Master in CS last December); specifically, I do comedy, and for a few months now I've been practicing improvisation. Now there are a few basic rules of improvisation that I think would make wonders for this thread. So the rules of the game will be as follows:
2. ADDITIONAL RULES.
Well, I think it's not too difficult to generally be nice to each other. Also, for the sake of the story, we should be understanding when to CUT the discussion so that what we came up with is drawable, preferably in 1 panel. But I trust that we'll learn it in the process. Specifically, commenting about where we did something not-so-good-and-why isn't anything bad. Also, if this thread will get some traction, let's not be greedy about our posting. When there are conflicts about something (for example characters sex) it's first come first serve. We accept ideas.
3. KEEP IT RPG.
Though it's disputable whether ME series and ME:A belong to the RPG genre, I feel that this story should. We'll create a protagonist with all respect to the RPG creation (race, class, stats, etc) and send him on an adventure that will involve doing quests, gathering the party, leveling up, gaining skills, defeating bosses, persuading characters. What quests? We'll figure it out. Who'll be in the party? I don't know. When we'll level up and what skills will be gained? Who the hell knows! Will the boss defeat us? Will we have a nemesis better than Kai Leng? So many questions to answer.
4. LETS GET THIS STARTED.
So, now that the rules of the game are outlined, we are free to start. We'll start with the hero creation and the title of our adventure.

- We'd take the story in direction based on several posts, not one, so more people can be engaged at once.
- We'd not care much about art and the artist him/herself - it wouldn't be just one artist to draw it and the style wouldn't matter all that much - this way the story could be pushed at a reasonable pace and not dependant on a single point of failure (someone's vacation, boredom or anything else). Of course I'd love to do plenty of drawing, if only to see how my crappy art would improve in the process.
- Anything goes. Simple as that. We'll use our full imagination, shitty metaphors for real-life events, we don't police language if we think it would work, we don't limit ourselves.
- Yes, and... We don't try to cancel an idea of another poster. We accept his/her ideas and add to it, rather than shutting it down. We can even implement it in this thread by building a quote pyramid that would contain the whole idea, with every post starting with "yes, and..." and then your idea. "Yes, and..." rule ensures that we stay positive about the art that will get posted - we don't criticize for it, just accept it. This way more people will get the courage to draw.
- Accept it if someone wants to take over. If you see the moment that you think is appropriate to cut and draw the scene, you can reply to the post and say "CUT". Then a volunteer - not necessarily the same poster - would draw the next panel to our comic with whatever skills and tools he/she posesses.
- Don't try to be funny. In words of late Gene Wilder, doing comedy is not about being funny, but about being real. So while we don't limit ourselves in where the story goes, we try to stay natural. But not funny; the best humour comes out naturally. We don't overthink it when we give our ideas.
- Leave space for imagination. The posts should be brief and open-ended. Preferably 1 or 2 simple sentences, not whole paragraphs from a fanfic we were writing. Adding a detail about someone's appearance is fine, or what does a character say to another. Or saying that character X went somewhere; but writing a detailed full description of a characters morning isn't.
- Here and now. We are always 'in the moment'. We write what a character is doing, not what he/she is planning to do, or did in the past.
