Yesterday had grand plans of lots of gaming but had to get a new phone and OMG what a pain in the butt that was setting up. Oh it's easy use this transfer app, well just getting that to work was a nightmare. To it's credit it did move the majority of stuff and set all the carrier settings but the one app. I use a lot is What's App. For some reason it had all the data since I started using it till October last year then nothing after that???? That just makes no sense whatsoever. I hate Murphy's Law too. I got an update for my Android 13 phone a couple of days ago. But the installation kept failing and it restarted the download after a random interval over and over again. I tried everything. Nothing worked. Then I read I could download it manually using fastboot and some Windows application. That would delete all apps and data from the phone. Since I needed the phone that day, I ignored it for the rest of the day. The next morning (about 23 hours later), I was about to make backups of everything, when I noticed that the update was installed automatically anyway somewhere during the night. My heartbeat dropped to its normal relaxed self. Technology is great till it stops working and it is getting more and more complex, so it is impossible a layperson to fix it.

I have found that although the "fast boot" in Windows is convenient for loading times...It is my experience that it can cause or run into problems because not all the services or extensions that Windows needs may be loaded properly. The Normal boot may be slower, but it ensures that everything loads correctly.

The mentioned Windows app activates it, which allows the Android update to be downloaded and installed. Luckily I didn't have to do that, because it deletes all data and apps.

So I have been unwell for over 4 weeks and at first thought it was just a bad cold but as the symptoms got worse (dry cough, fatigue, heavy legs, headaches etc.) I thought it may have been Covid but the RAT tests were always negative. So had blood tests and as I had thought after using Dr. Google I have Glandular Fever which really sucks, I am at week 5 and it can go on for months. It would be OK without the Fatigue and the constant sore throat and if it would stop teasing by feeling better one day then slamming the next. Oh well not much I can do but take Panadol and rest as much as possible. I went to our family Dr, with my daughter aged 19 she needed to see about shoulder and neck pain but also mentioned she thought had a cyst or something in her throat, nope she has Glandular fever as well. We now also both have to have MRI's on our necks and she has had to start taking Lyrica the same medication I take for a nerve problem in my neck.

Without a doubt I now have the most beautiful belly of Amsterdam. Let me explain... I still have that wound that doesn't want to close. So next month they'll do something about it, by replacing a polyethylene net in my stomach by a biodegradable one. To make the healing process faster after surgery, they gave me 6 Botox injections, which releases the pressure on the new wound. Contrary to popular belief, Botox doesn't fill, but instead it paralyzes muscles. So, if the surgery fails then I have at least a belly without wrinkles. I can tell that 6 of those injections is a bit painful. I looked at the needle once and that thing is huge and can be used to knit shawls. After that I looked at the ultrasound monitor. I said that I thought that it's a miracle that they could see details on that. To which the doctor joked "Sir, I can't either, but it looks professional, don't you think?". Making an appointment with those guys was problematic. I first had an appointment for the 15th (yesterday). But I spotted that it was connected to a blood test instead. So I called them. I got a new appointment for the 29th. So I called them again, because there was not enough time for the Botox to do its work. So they changed it to the 17th (tomorrow). Then at 13:30 today I got a phone call from the doctor. He said that they ordered the Botox for today, instead of tomorrow. And tomorrow they couldn't use that Botox anymore. He wanted me to have the injections today at 15:30. He said that there was no bed available for me, so they would put me on a stretcher instead for a maximum of 4 hours, to check my response. I arrived at 14:45 and 5 minutes later they treated me. At 16:15 I was on my way home. Somehow it doesn't feel confidence inspiring. Let's see what happens with the surgery.

Best of luck, sure it will be fine. That they were able to do it in such a short time is amazing. Here in Australia it could take up to a year to make that stuff happen, 3 months at the earliest due to the government bringing in too many immigrants and not building the health infrastructure. Again best of luck.

Again best of luck. Thank you, sir! This isn't that fast. I was told that the wound would not close in April 2023 (it was open since the end of June 2022), so I asked for a second opinion in another hospital. I talked to a surgeon in May 2023. Because my condition is not live threatening the surgery is delayed to February 2024. That is partially too, because the surgeon himself needed surgery on his knee and that required 3 months recovery. I could have had another surgeon, but this one seemed like he was specialized in complex wounds. So, I rather kept him than try my luck with another surgeon.

I walk out the door this morning and first thing I see is a smartcar stuck in the snow. (I live near an auto-repair shop.) Got behind it, one of the techs sees me and runs over, and we managed to push it free into the parking spot. The tech thanked me and mentioned he was surprised this person showed up today at all, sort of shaking his head.
Good times. Got myself a big bag o' weed and some Tim Hortons after that.

I have now tried my microwave technique with Bratwursts. Guess what? No grease! Despite puncturing and busting them. So it's the Chorizos, not the micro.
In HoI4 nothing much have happened along the fronts. Going nowhere. But underneath, things have happened. I now have air superiority over the English Channel, AND northern France. Can it be utilized for any advantage?
A good day, overall, I reckon.

Well, I wish I could write a long boring post about what has happened in my HoI4 game...
Alas, today I had to inform my only remaining uncle of that he is now the last sibling left of his family, as his brother collapsed and died today from some kind of heart failure, barely more than a month passing since my mother/his sister passed away. I lighted two candles today.
Common factor in both cases, and of a third brother/uncle who died earlier this late summer/autumn, is Covid, approx. 1½ to 2 months prior to death. Food for thought.

So, then it's the long boring HoI4 report today then.
tldr version: I found most of the enemies' fleets hiding in Napoli and Sevastopol. I sunk 2 carriers, 6 battleships, 46 cruisers, more than half of them 'heavy', and more than 50 destroyers. I "liberated" most of Italy, and liberated most of Caucasus (no quotes because it's UK territory). Then the fronts bogged down again, not an inch further.
anal retentive version: Things started moving in the land war because of three things. I moved a free army to land in Italy where USA, India, free Italy, Canada etc had managed to invade and create a small bridgehead (which they had been stuck in for a long time. I then moved purposefully and aggressively before the troops ran out of supplies.
And I managed to cut a railroad that was critical for the Germans in Caucasus, with a desperate offensive lunge.
Germany was only keeping one single division in Crimea, so I put one of my massive naval strike forces, 4 carriers, 6 battleships, 6 heavy cruisers, 7 light cruisers, 41 destroyers into support invasion mode. And finally USA bit and invaded. That caused Germany some disturbance and forced them thinning their divisions along my front. I pounced by hand, micro managing battles, splitting the German forces against the Caspian sea. And then it just rolled on for awhile.
Fairly similar story in Italy. First I cleaned out the south of Italy, and then we went north. It was during these land operations that the enemy fleets were forced to leave their harbors, and were promptly dispatched. That's really nice. I do strongly suspect there is at least 2, prob 3 battleships left somewhere, but they should be missing support from destroyers and be easy pickings. The enemy having a powerful fleet is always worrisome, even if you dominate, because you don't know when they will pop up and sink a convoy fleet full of troops, or something other disastrously.
So land warfare have been much a question of logistics lately, particularly in Caucasus. But I got used to that in Africa. You just have to build supply depots and railroads. And Naval bases of course (doubles as a port). And building a supply depot takes a long time, but you have to do it and be patient. I have built up the supply situation in Caucasus now and am maybe ready to continue. I need to take a key city at the south of the Caspian sea though, and I don't quite have enough forces there. I've been forced to fill in the US held frontline towards Ukraine, to stop German units from infiltrating. So our frontlines are a bit thin. But so are Germany's. My problem is that I need a concentration to take that city. Before that is done, I won't have my back covered.
Some memorable moments. My strongest armor divisions in Italy ran out of 'Modern Tanks'. The result was that they couldn't be kept at full strength. I had a deficit of modern tanks, Centurions, that was greater than 1000 for awhile. And when you only manufacture like 1½ per day, that will take years to make up, even if you assume you won't have any additional losses. But I did have +6000 Comet medium tanks in storage, and still produced it to supply units. So I edited the template. That type of division had only one brigade with Centurions, the rest made up from older medium tanks, tank destroyers, self propelled artillery and mechanized infantry. So I removed half of the Modern tanks, two battalions, and replaced them with Comets, then filled the brigade to max strength with another Comet battalion, and did the same for the medium tank brigade. Finally I reinforced the mech. infantry brigade with another battalion to max strength as well. Worked like a charm. My modern tank deficit evaporated and the divisions filled up to full strength. The change was small enough to let most division keep their skill level as well.
Then I realized an odd detail in my ship building programs. There isn't really any emergency with the ship building any longer. Due to dominance I don't really have any losses any longer. The early blood baths on my destroyers and cruiser are distant memories now. And once I figured out I had to set some fighters on 'intercept' to kill enemy naval bombers, and keep some on 'air superiority' to defend the interceptors from enemy fighters, in the air war over the seas, I stopped losing submarines. The rest is down to having dominating fleets, strike forces well screened with destroyers, good detection (radar, sonar and aircraft catapults) and putting the task forces - all of them - in coward mode (run away unless victory is almost certain), and high repair priority, you don't really lose much ships, particularly not if your navy is strong.
Anyway, I noted something odd, as I said. I had kept some old ship designs in production, because they were cheaper (in production time) and good enough. (I have made 91 different ship designs so far in this UK game). But some modern designs, particularly light cruisers used significantly less Steel units for production. Likewise, my old destroyer designs used less Steel units than my latest wonders.
I have had an almost constant problem with lack of steel during much of this game. It comes with the massive ship building programs you're forced to as playing UK. But in my case it, of course, also impacted my tank production (see issue with 'Modern tank' above). Part of the solution is to build a lot of tank destroyers and self propelled artillery from old tank chassis, to pad and fill out your tank divisions (the way the Germans did for real during WW2). Recycling obsolete tanks this way don't cost much steel. But here I had the opportunity to do something different and bigger. So I gradually changed my ship buildings programs. New 'Phalanx' class light cruisers replaced the old 'Pelican' class that had been a mainstay for so long, despite the Pelican being basically just as good and cheaper. Old 'Slasher' (screening) and 'Harvester' (patrol) destroyer classes came back in production instead of newer 'Ultimate' and 'Dominator' classes. My new 'cheapo' 'Achilles' class of heavy cruiser, which I had designed to replace the modern 'Golden Hind', because I perceived a lack of heavy cruisers and found them too expensive, was in turn replaced with a new 'cheapo' more modern heavy cruiser 'Circe' class. Together with my new super heavy battleships, 'Britannia' class, I cut off 90 steel units from my daily consumption. And suddenly I had no delays or production problems any longer.

It's a good day, sort of. But there is an irony. Just as I have gotten comfortable with relaxing in front of the TV,.. - I have never watched TV much, since I grew up. In later years, particularly not. I always felt time was running away. Now though, after and in all the turmoil and hazzle of my mother's death, I suddenly need to sit down and "be together", relaxing in front of the TV. Maybe Christmas did that to me. ...But now our cable TV has some break, third day. I hope it'll be fixed tomorrow.
But I have done a painting, and that feels good. Now what? I kinda have a craving for reading a book, but some part of me don't feel ready for that yet. It'll probably be HoI4. ...But not too long. ...At some point I need to unpack my Grant kit and tools again and continue on that.

Maybe you need to learn that it is OK to not be productive at all at times?
Speaking for myself it was something I needed to learn to do after having a severe burn out and it was a lesson learned for sure for me which I execute still nowadays.

I agree. ...And watching TV is strangely tranquil, and paradoxically social. It's like the head and body turns off, and no one has any other demands on you than being there. And afterwards you sleep real well. ...Unfortunately that's not the only reality, when you have two deceased family members stuff and affairs to wrap up.

TV still not working. Support claimed it was some serious technical problem. Their technicians would contact me when they START (!!!) to work on my problem. (apparently they're having some kind of meltdown) Oh well, I found some nice old novels.
