First of all, Grandaddy Saikyo's advice, as provided to Uncle Saikyo: Saikyo-san can attest to the veracity of this statement. No amount of alcohol can withstand a pound of spaghetti alio e olio. Paleo diet my ass! Are you a dizzy victim of emergency induction port mainlining? No problem! Just pound generous portions of bread (or similar dense carbohydrate), delicious meat (bacon or sausage preferred), and colossal amounts of water! Dehydration does not do a body good! Drink your water! If you get fat, at least you will be happy! If you are a caffeine addict, don't forget the coffee! The last thing you need is a withdrawal headache on top of everything else! Need more advice? Okay - pound water between drinks. Nobody will notice; you'll be going to the lavatory every 15 minutes anyway. Also - stop at Denny's on the way home. I assume you are in Japan like me and can eat at Denny's and still take the train home. Personally, I recommend the Omu-Raisu (omlette rice). Or pizza if it's not available. Don't believe me? I'm a certified Celt - fear not. I got this. And NO tylenol/acetaminophen for hangover relief! That will trash your liver!!! Don't do it! Ask your pharmacist if you doubt the Saikyo Master! Your liver is your buddy - take care of it!!!! Any questions? Ask away! Love, Saikyo

Does Grandaddy Saikyo have any advice for relieving ringsting after a particularly delightful curry?

Drink at least two glasses of water after you stop drinking, wait an hour before bed (and go for a walk if you can), and take your sweet time. Alcohol is wonderful and should be enjoyed -- if you're too drunk to taste what you're sipping, you're wasting it. Ditto for drinking something you don't want to taste. Excellent advice!
I've dodged hangovers my entire adult drinking life... But I am also a Celt (slightly more than I'm anything else, at any rate).

General drinking tips:
When you drink the harder stuff like rum, schnapps etc. make sure you slip in a glass of water every now and then. Don't be the nub who downs a dozen rum shots in record time only to keel over like a torpedoed boat before the party really starts. There is no shame in drinking some water between the shots, on the contrary, thats how the true pros do it.
And when you feel like puking go do it right away when you can still do it in a civilized, controlled non-messy manner. Waiting until the inevitable instinct to empty your stomach suddenly and explosively kicks in is never a good idea.

I wish I could cook omurice because it is also one of my favorite dishes. I've had very good ones in NYC, Tokyo, and Taipei though (restaurants, not maid cafes).
Nowadays, I don't drink enough to get a hangover. When I get a hangover, it is usually from molly. In that case, I just take a day off, drink as much water as I can, and sleep when if I can.

I drink at least 1 gallon of water every day and make sure to pound back an extra gallon on days when I get super drunk.
Never have hangovers unless I go overboard and get blackout drunk.

I find gatorade to be quite helpful the night before, specifically, more so than plain water. Just have to remember to down as much as you can before crashing. It isn't nearly as effective the morning after as the night before.
Gatorade was tailor-made to increase the absorption rate of water. The potassium specifically alters the rate at which water is taken through your intestinal wall.
While water works great, what you want is that higher increase of absorption along with it. It directly counters the dehydrating effects of the alcohol you're imbibing.
***
Also as an aside I avoid giving hangover cures in the form of food since pretty much any hangover I've needed help with I've been way too far gone to even consider anything remotely solid staying down for longer than it takes coming back up. Food is the step after that.
***
Edit to include, coffee is the worst idea possible. Unless you are addicted to the point of actually having a withdrawal headache from missing one coffee, coffee is just, terrible. Really, don't put yourself through that. Avoid coffee. Bad advice.

*takes notes* That pictured omurice looks like vomit with ketchup on it. Anyway, I know to eat something heavy prior to having a strong drink and have on-hand a bottle of water. Did not know that coffee and ibuprofen makes things worse or that gatorade increase fluid absorption. So gatorade *is* better after all...

Ive been drunk for the past couple of hours. I have also smoked some sticky icky. I have been in a haze of alcohol and weed for the past couple of days. I dont really get hungover anymore. But I do sit here and ponder the meaning of life.

Does Grandaddy Saikyo have any advice for relieving ringsting after a particularly delightful curry? Follow up the incendiary cuisine with a nice glass of whole milk, yogurt (real yogurt, none of that nonfat junk) or ice cream. I can't confirm this will alleviate sizzling butt disease, but this will cool off your mouth.
The capsicum chemical that makes peppers HOT!!! isn't soluble in water (which is why water doesn't bring relief from the heat), but it is soluble in fat.
(If you are lactose intolerant, better not try this unless you are going to crop-dust your friends. The Saikyo Master does this all the time, but he does not get many dates.)
Anyway, this is why stretchy Indian mystics eat yogurt as a side with ultra-hot curries, or so Mr. YOGA FIRE!! tells me.

Did not know that coffee and ibuprofen makes things worse The Saikyo Master is not a pharmacist or a doctor (and please always defer to their guidance, not mine), but I believe most would say if you drink often you should avoid anything containing acetaminophen aka paracetamol aka APAP (brand name Tylenol, Panadol, and various store brands). Prescriptions like codeine contain acetaminophen, as do many over the counter cold medicines like NyQuil.
From WebMD:
Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, etc.) is a different medication. I use it for headaches, but it can upset peoples' stomachs. Better ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions

To avoid peeling your tongue from the roof of your mouth when you eventually wake up drink a large quantity of fruit juice rich in vitamin C before you pass out. Have another big glass or two of juice when you wake up. I highly recommend Tomato juice, it won't stop you feeling like a zombie but it does make it less bad. Alcohol dehydrates you and destroys vitamin C in the body which is a major cause of the hangover. Not only is Tomato juice great for rehydration it's rich in vitamin C, nutrients/minerals some which aid detox in the body. As I said it won't cure you but you'll feel slightly less awful.

Wow, thank you Grandaddy Saikyo, you have saved me some real anal displeasure.
Please can you ask him if he'll be my real Grandaddy. One of mine died a few years back so he can take his place!
Thanks

I don't drink for the past 7 or 8 year apart from occasional glass of wine or beer but I have extensive experience, a bit too extensive probably. The worst thing to actually cause severe hangover is cheap and bad alcohol. Ingesting something good even at overindulging blackout quantities can often spare the worst symptoms. While ethanol and acetaldehyde (oxidation product of ethanol) are the main toxic components, you don't need to additionally poison yourself with some slimy dogshite extract added for cheap synthetic flavor.
While tylenol is not recommended, ibuprofen might sometimes completely cure that head ache in the morning and is essential on a work day. Large quantities of water with a drop of lemon juice, kefir, any pickled juice (not too sour), and anything similar help. Last but not least, if you feel a need to throw up, just do it, don't hold back. Follow that natural call of your body and cleanse yourself, you will feel better almost right away.
I'm not so sure about consuming large quantities of hard to digest food. I could never do it myself, it just slows the onset of the symptoms but gets my whole digestive system in huge trouble by clogging it shut for a few days. IMO, better keep it light. But yes, got to eat something, every little bite helps.
Also, never freshen your nip. That is the first sign of serious trouble showing that you might be really addicted. I could never do it and never had a serious addiction problem.
