Traditionally attractive is also subjective. For example since you mentioned breasts, many people like women with big breasts and many people like women with smaller breasts. Likewise there are many who like muscular men but many others like not as muscular men. All are attractive to lots of people. Honestly, it probably boils down to attractive faces. Something every single female model in Andromeda lacks. Animations aside, I thought PeeBee, Kora, and Suvi were relatively attractive. I also didn't have a problem with Sara's face when it wasn't being ruined by weird, janky facial expressions. To the extent that there was an "attractiveness issue" in the game (and I don't think there is a serious one), I think it had less to do with an intentional decision on BW's part and more to do with the overall set of development problems that plagued much of the game.

Attraction is a subjective thing. To you someone may not be attractive enough, but to another person they are the most attractive person on the planet. Both views are equally valid. Traditionally attractive then. Tits and ass and pecs and abs and biceps, chiseled jaws, etc. Thats what sells. Sara Ryder types do not. Maybe to some, but not the masses. My only MEA playthrough was as Sara. I can assure you that whatever problems she may have had, T&A were not among them.

Was it? I've heard it so many times, I could have sworn it was still in the game. What did they change it to? Edit: on second thought, don't tell me. I'm doing another trilogy run now anyway. I'll pay more attention when I get there and find out for myself. I won't tell you exactly but I believe you have to have all dlc plus EC. I do have them and have had them all for years and years. However, I think I've played the original non-EC ending more times than I played the EC version in its entirety. The first time I played the EC I accidentally triggered the Refuse ending and didn't get far into the conversation, and I think I've only experienced the EC ending a couple times beyond that.

Ugh. What a frustrating, obnoxious line. I still grimace whenever I hear it. Yeah well that line was fixed. Was it? I've heard it so many times, I could have sworn it was still in the game. What did they change it to? Edit: on second thought, don't tell me. I'm doing another trilogy run now anyway. I'll pay more attention when I get there and find out for myself.

To be fair, ME3's Crucible is just about the dumbest, most egregious use of space magic imaginable. Of course, that doesn't mean that we shouldn't call out MEA when it's dumb too. Both should be criticized. Yep. You do not know them, and there's not enough time to explain Ugh. What a frustrating, obnoxious line. I still grimace whenever I hear it.

To be clear, I'm not suggesting you're not allowed to dislike whichever aspect of the plot rustles your jimmies. Merely that going so far to say that <given sci-fi scenario> is an example of 'bad writing' puts the onus on you to explain why its fine for various scientific principles must be upheld in this particular situation, but you're happy for them to be broken on other occasions when it suits you. I mean, it's not like mass effect itself simply 'spices up the setting'. It's literally fundamental to how the entire franchise works, so your point has nothing to do with scale limits. On the specifics at hand, it's not like the Monoliths are shown to have no limits. They can't rebuild literally broken worlds or physically move a world back to it's prior location. If you simply wanted to throw a cheap shot and didn't expect anyone to challenge your logic then perhaps you shouldn't have posted at all. If the original trilogy used these massive amounts of handwaving, I must have mercifully forgotten about them. To be fair, ME3's Crucible is just about the dumbest, most egregious use of space magic imaginable. Of course, that doesn't mean that we shouldn't call out MEA when it's dumb too. Both should be criticized.

But the West, as usual, takes things too far and tries telling people what they like is wrong. Ugly characters are popping up all over... Just look at the recently release Hellblade. Based on your recommendation, I just watched some trailers for Hellblade. Holy cow! That game looks incredible! Thanks for the heads up!

So... is this an "I hope we get DLC" thread or a "Mass Effect is Dead" thread. I can't really tell. I don't think it should be either. It's a "This News Is Unrelated To ME" thread.

Does it say anything about Mass Effect outside the "Currently announced projects at BioWare" section? Idk and it doesn't really matter. It shows they are still supporting ME. Contrary to others claiming otherwise. In that case, I'm not sure what your purpose in replying to my post was.

Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't see anything in that screenshot to indicate that the job at Austin is related to work on MEA. The sentence that includes the underlined bit just indicates all the ongoing Bioware projects, across all their studios. The job itself is to work on Anthem in Austin, and I don't see any indication (at least from this screenshot) that there are MEA projects happening at Austin. It clearly says Mass Effect. Does it say anything about Mass Effect outside the "Currently announced projects at BioWare" section?

I felt like the extremely lackluster semi-open-world implementation strongly detracts from both games, and I have not been able to do more than a single playthrough for either DAI or MEA (I also haven't played any of the DLC for DAI, so maybe my opinion would change if I had). Overall, though, DAI had a more interesting story and vastly better characters.

I don't think they should ignore but rather improve on the game. Besides ME: A doesn't have that much baggage compared to the endings. I think most of the complaints are from a technical point-of-view, not so much about the story/content. If only that were the case!

I could go either way on sticking with the same crew and protagonist. But I definitely don't want to see the game set in the Heleus Cluster if it means another story centered around the Kett, Angarans, and Remnant/Jardaan. I have essentially zero interest in any of those species, which is truly a first for me when it comes to Bioware games.

The comment on the first page of this thread where I express my affection for Cassandra is one of my most heavily "liked" comments ever. What's up with all these people ignoring their "biological imperatives"?!? Biological imperatives is an obvious lie, sure, but let's skip over it. It's only there for rhetorical purposes, and the proposition can still function without it. (It doesn't particularly matter where the tastes come from; if they exist at all, they're just facts regardless of the cause.) Edit: maybe "lie" isn't the right word for a statement which isn't really supposed to convey truthful information in the first place. That's so ething I've become a bit more attuned to in recent months. That's fair enough. The point I was sarcastically hinting at is that the OP seems to want to draw broad, universal conclusions about the tastes of men in general from factors that are to a significant extant simply a matter of personal taste. It could be that he and his friends found Cassandra (or other characters) to be completely unattractive, but this is certainly not the case for everybody. And given the rather large set of issues surrounding the development and release of MEA, I find it rather unparsimonious to conclude that its reception was heavily impacted by how some people felt about the attractiveness of certain characters in the previous installment of a completely separate series. In short, this entire thread simply feels like a political agenda looking for an excuse to express itself. Of course, that begs the (excellent) question of why I'm participating in it! I don't know.

Who is "we"?
I'm sure many of the trolls on metacritic (and their ilk) were too harsh. But most of the professional reviews that I read were pretty much right in line with my views of the game.

I hate to see BW Montreal folded up but there's does appear to have been some dysfunction in that office. As you said, EA seems to have been happy with the financial performance of ME:A, going by their Q1 FY18 call, but EA doesn't appear to have been pleased with Montreal or, I think, MEAMP.Well. when you do the bare minimum with your mp. What did they think was going to happen? For the record, I put a lot of hrs into ME3MP. It was new for the franchise, its just the same mp with a different coat of paint that I already put hrs upon hrs into. Gotta disagree. I felt that MEAMP was several steps down from ME3's.

So you don't think any hetero males were turned off by DAI? Male fear of female power in games is real, and the lack of traditionally beautiful, feminine females in DAI confirmed that fear for a LOT of guys and contributed greatly to the hate parade. And yet nobody is talking about it in the media. I think that is why a lot of male gamers like to highten TW3 and bash Bioware. To them, TW3 IS the anti Bioware game for many reasons. I mean lets be honest, TW3 is aimed towards the hetero male gamer while games like DAI were geared towards everyone else. CDPR is sort of like the Bioware alter ego. I think that TW3 is just about the most impressive video game I've ever experienced. I think it's vastly superior to both DAI and MEA in most respects. I also happen to think that Cassandra was great character, and she had fuck all to do with MEA's overall reception.

I skimmed the article and did not find any obvious connection to the content in the OP. Exactly my point. The elephant. I also don't recall any articles about MEA bring up the fact that hundreds of people every year are abducted by aliens and then experimented upon in secret science facilities on the moon. How come nobody is talking about the effect of alien abduction on MEA sales? Why don't they want to bring it up, huh? Maybe that the real elephant.

Someone on Twitter: Is there any chance of an Xbox One X patch for Mass Effect Andromeda? Ian S. Frazier: No idea, sorry. I'm no longer with BioWare, but you could ask someone in Edmonton. So Frazier is no longer with Bioware and questions about Andromeda are answering folks at Edmonton. Interesting. I think Montreal is really dead. Yikes, did his leaving just happen? I can't work out if Edmonton is just answering questions or whether they've been handling the MP up until now. His follow up tweet from justa couple minutes ago: "Oh, I'm still around. Just with EA Motive now, that's all. Can't talk about what I'm working on yet, though."

Lastly, combat is widely inferior because it doesn't have the "oomph" that ME3 has. Weapons feel strong in ME3 and you feel like you're hurting the enemies. Its pretty satisfying to put a Widow shot in a Prime's head and have it flinch in pain. Or how about making heads roll as the Shadow? Or punching someone's face clean off as a Batarian? The combat doesn't feel strong in MEA and enemies don't react to being hit in a satisfying way. Plus most ME3 characters feel unique. Outside of powers all MEA characters feel samey with the same looking melees. Yes! I'm so glad to hear somebody else say this. This expresses exactly how I feel about ME3 vs MEA combat.
