1st playthrough, Act 1, level 5 Half-Elf Druid, female, Circle of Land, criminal background I have a baby owlbear of my very own! Last time, I had found a seemingly impassible stone wall in what I think is the temple of Selune in the Underdark. I still couldn't get past it today from that side, but I found the other side by accident by convincing Gut's bodyguard at the goblin camp that I totally live there and it should let me in, going through a door in her quarters, and ending up in a secret passageway. There was a lever on the goblin side to open the stone wall I still haven't found damn Nightsong. I killed a giant eyeball with tentacles, then was defeated by some poison gas and a burrowing creature that I loaded a previous save to get away from. I thought Halsin said something about going through the Underdark or the mountain pass, but I get a warning to wrap up any loose ends when I try to go to the mountain pass. Why didn't I get that in the Underdark? Maybe I will, once I reach a certain point? A question about Karlach's engine mechanic. I checked a guide just briefly and saw that the mechanic was at the druid camp, as I had suspected, and that it is also important to save the strange cow. However, the tieflings have already left to go to Baldur's Gate, and the cow is stuck saying "moo" to me in a human voice because I failed some sort of ability check early on when I first met him.
Am I screwed and Karlach just won't get a mechanic in act 1? Or in the whole playthrough?

1st playthrough, Act 1, level 4; please don't spoil Half-Elf Druid, female, Circle of Land, criminal backgroundI feel like I'm getting to the end of Act 1, yet at the same time feel like there has to be so much more left to do. Also, level 4 seems kind of low for being 31 hours in, but I don't actually know what the level cap is. Had my second romance scene with Lae'zel, and convinced her to start using the tadpoles. I am currently exploring the Underdark. I killed three...trolls? I can't remember what they were. We found the abandoned temple with the lasers of murder preventing you from entering the front gate, so I used my cat form to crawl through a crevice in the rock, and shot the gem powering the whole thing.
I looted the place, crawled up a ladder, and have now come face-to-face with a stone wall that obviously has a room behind it, but seemingly with no way to continue on. I'm assuming there is an illusion there that someone in the party is supposed to pick up on, but...nada. I fast travelled back above ground and made camp, and it's a good thing I did, because...MY SWEET BABY FINALLY SHOWED UP TO CAMP!! It seemed willing to give me a chance. Lae'zel scared it away, but she said it will surely be back for more food, so I guess I'll be generous with my long rests for a while until it comes back. Just realized I forgot to turn on my animal-speaking ability I may reload tomorrow to see what "hoo-hoot" is supposed to mean. WHO WOULD PICK #2??? I still have to go after the hag. I tried earlier on, then decided I wasn't quite ready and backed out.
And of course, I have to do the creche at the mountain pass, but that seems to be a point of no return, so I'll tackle that after I finish in the Underdark. At least, assuming the Underdark itself isn't some point of no return? Since I was able to fast travel above ground again, probably not?
I believe I also still have to look for evidence of Wyll's father's kidnapping, plus find a mechanic for Karlach's engine. My character seemed to think we've already met one. Maybe at the druid camp. Hopefully not one of the tieflings, though, because they already left.

dragontartare The amulet is in the Overgrown Ruins near where you first landed when you fell from the Nautiloid in the beginning of the game. Bring Astarion along and make sure to stock up on lockpicks and disarm trap kits. As for the building I think we are talking about two different buildings. I came across a small village that was on fire in one of the buildings there was villager trapped upstairs behind a busted door. dragontartare This one is definitely worth picking up. It's called The Amulet of Last Voices which grants you unlimited uses of Speak with Dead. Google its exact location, if necessary. It's useful throughout the game and I almost never take it off. Yeah, I already picked it up and used it.

My main is a druid. I just managed to loot keys off some corpses for the locked doors and didn't even realize it.
I did end up rescuing the villager first, on my second reload. At first I tried going to him after rescuing the soldier, but I wasn't fast enough to get the fallen beams off him in time. Wow, I didn't even know there was a soldier trapped with the villager. When I smash the door it causes an explosion. I guess that explains why I only found the villager trapped under a beam, and why there's a soldier crying outside in front of the building. The villager you saved from under the beam has a small quest for you. I got caught in that explosion too the first time, so when I reloaded, I destroyed that door with arrows and was able to get the villager out without getting launched back downstairs. The soldier is in a different room across from where the villager is. I found his wife's body and talked to her before telling the villager I'd found her. She mentioned the dowry, which I conveniently forgot to tell the villager about, so I finally got an inspiration point for my criminal background.

dragontartare Yeah I forgot to mention if your main is a rogue then you don't need Astarion to explore the ruin. Also there is no villager in the ruins unless you mean the burning house. But yeah when I did the burning house quest I was only able to save one villager, and I needed the ability to speak with the dead to complete the villagers quest. Which is why I told you to grab the amulet. You can only use it once a day. If you want to use it again you need to take a long rest. My main is a druid. I just managed to loot keys off some corpses for the locked doors and didn't even realize it.

Is there a way to change who is in your active party without talking to whoever you are kicking out? I feel bad telling them to stay behind That's the only way I know of by telling them they have to stay or return to camp. Oh and make sure to pick up the amulet before rescuing the villager. The burning house was the right one. I don't know whether it glitched last night or thinking I couldn't target the door was a side effect of the drop in framerate I was getting, but I was able to rescue two people from the rooms upstairs. It did kind of throw me off when it switched to turn-based mode with the environment getting a turn, though. I got the amulet. I didn't even need Astarion, so I don't know why I didn't finish the tomb the first time I was there. I explored most of the ruins earlier and don't remember seeing a villager, but I think I have a couple of rooms left, so hopefully I'll find them.

I'm pretty sure we're talking about the same building and that the door just glitched, but after I do the dishes (ugh ) I'm going to boot up the game and try again. I'll look for that item as well. I think I initially visited that location before picking up the party member you mentioned, so there are locks I couldn't get past. ------------- Is there a way to change who is in your active party without talking to whoever you are kicking out? @ dragontartare For your last problem if you're in the building I think you are. You can smash the door. Also just a reminder early on you get an amulet that let's you speak to the dead. Just remember that if you're ever stuck and don't know what to do in a quest. I have no such amulet, though I picked up a scroll for it at the goblin camp.
I was able to get into the burning house, but the person trapped upstairs is who is inaccessible. There were just a bunch of would-be rescuers standing in front of a partially broken door that can't be interacted with or attacked.
It may have just glitched. I'll try again tonight.

I already know Steam forums hates the game they hate everything. I was going to point out that the Steam reviews are overwhelmingly positive, but then I looked at the actual discussion board as you suggest, and...yeah, you're not kidding I'm going to stay away from there for my own sanity.

1st playthrough, Act 1, level 4; please don't spoil Half-Elf Druid, female, Circle of Land, criminal backgroundI saw my guardian for the first time. It took me forever to clear the goblin camp, and I ended up looking up a strategy tip for dispensing with Minthara quickly, so that helped. You tell her you're going to help her raid the grove, then when the conversation ends and she walks over the wooden bridge, destroy it. It got a few goblins, too, and possibly the scrying eye as well, because I never saw it again after that.
Otherwise I slowly cleared as much of the camp as I could, then went back downstairs to get Halsin to help with Dror Ragzlin.
I didn't see my sweet baby owlbear anywhere, so I hope it got away and will show up at my camp eventually. I did tell it to meet me there. After that, I did a long rest, then returned to the grove to talk to Halsin and the others again. They are going to meet us at camp for a celebration, and I'm wondering if that's any kind of point of no return. I hope not. I'm not even close to done with this area yet. I encountered the githyanki at the mountain pass, got absolutely trounced by them, then reloaded and lied instead of telling the truth. Lae'zel was thankful in spite of herself. Also, I finally found the infamous burning house with peasants inside. I was getting horrible framerate drops (memory leak, I think I read about?) and I think the house itself glitched, so I'll try again tomorrow. I see someone on the second floor to save, but there is nothing to interact with to get to them.

dragontartare I've been doing the first act since release and although you started some time after me. You discovered two things I have yet to see in act 1. 1 is dog Scratch (who I thought we get later in the game), and you discovered an owlbear cub which I did not even know was a thing. I thought I had been thorough but not thorough enough it seems. That's actually exciting. I can't wait to see what I discover in future playthroughs

Inspiration doesn't depend on approval, but for the party accomplishing things that are befitting the characters' set backgrounds. While you can aim to act in certain ways that you know would help out the 'inspiration' for a certain character, its just generally a helpful mechanic to reward people who try to play the game and its stories to their fullest (as it also is the case when you're engaged with the story and side activities of a tabletop campaign). Ah, ok, that makes sense. Thanks

Lae'zel just came on to me at camp, right after threatening to put all of us out of our misery to prevent us turning into mind flayers I guess that...seems on brand for her? I told her yes, so I guess I'm romancing her now. She said she'll come to my bunk some night to "take what's hers". She's at medium approval, while Wyll has high approval, and yet Wyll has less to say to me. Astarion is still at 0 approval, even though I've gotten a couple of inspiration points from him. It doesn't make sense. I guess I don't understand how this works. I decided to long rest right after rescuing Halsin, so we'll see if I've messed up that quest by doing so. He got frustrated, but said he'd wait for me. I'm going to have a hell of a time clearing out this goblin camp.

I...started over several time again in the past few days/weeks But now I've finally settled on a character that I'm totally in love with This is Orianna aka. Ori She's a Way of the Four Elements Monk with a penchant for snarkiness and sass She's currently about...halfway through Act 1? I've at least recruited all of the Act 1 companions
I think she's really cute

1st playthrough, 15 hours in; please don't spoilHalf-Elf Druid, female, Circle of Land, criminal background
Her picture: I'm loving this so far. I'm surprised how much I like not having quest markers everywhere. I think the last game that I played that tried to do this was AC Valhalla (or at least you had the option to turn off some quest markers), and it fell flat for me because I didn't care enough to just go exploring with no particular aim. The world was way too big for that. This map is small enough that I am actually interested in investigating every little corner. I've picked up Astarion, Lae'zel, Wyll, Shadowheart, Gale, and Karlach. At my camp, I also have Withers, Volo, and Scratch. I think the owlbear cub is going to join us too, once I've cleared out the goblin camp so he can escape. I was bummed to see his mom dead. My thoughts on the companions so far: Astarion: I told him no biting, just like I tell my cats! They don't listen. I wonder if Astarion will? He's cute, but I'm not sure yet if I'd romance him. He's interesting to have around, though. I'm curious where the story is going to go as far as him not knowing whether he is still under the command of his former master. Lae'zel: I liked her from the beginning, but then she rolled her eyes at me and I liked her even more. She's an asshole. Why do I like her? I don't usually like assholes, aside from Javik who is the best comedian on the Normandy. Maybe I'll romance her. We'll see. It's too early to tell.
She's been quite useful in fights, too. She's the companion with the second-highest approval of me so far after Wyll, though she is still neutral.
Anyway, I think I'm going to try finishing up the goblin camp next so I can get my owl bear cub and free Halsin, and then I'll go look for the gith so she can stop whining about it. Wyll: Also cute, but a little too goody goody for my character, I think. While I don't want to turn her evil, I do want to play up her criminal background more than I have so far, so I don't see these two being a good couple.
That said, he is my highest-approving companion so far because I keep helping unfortunate peasants. His approval is the category right above neutral. Shadowheart: She misses almost every shot she takes at an enemy, so she's sitting back at camp to rethink her life choices. I didn't discover the approval stat until after I removed her from my active party, so I don't know what she thinks of my character. She did say something about it being nice to travel with me, so maybe she's above neutral. Is there some other way I can check?
I am interested in seeing what memories might eventually come back to her. Gale: I just got him yesterday and talked to him at camp, but haven't had him in my party yet. Probably not a romance option for me, because he looks unwashed. I let him eat some magical gloves I had that I wasn't going to use, though. It remains to be seen whether that was really a good idea or not. Karlach: I just rescued her towards the end of my play time yesterday and haven't had a follow-up conversation yet. A question, if it can be answered in a way that isn't too spoilery: how often is it safe to do long rests? I've only done one so far, plus two short rests. I understand that a rest might lock out obvious quests, such as the example of the burning house full of peasants, but I'm worried about doing too many long rests and completely missing out on a main quest. Is that something I should be worried about?

I got this game the other day and am hooked. I have about 10 hours so far and look forward to spending a good chunk of Friday night and Saturday playing Does this game have quests that lock you out of side quests if you progress too far? I know there are different acts, so there are probably cutoffs between them, but what about other quests? For reference, I have only picked up Lae'zel, Shadowheart, Wyll, and Astarion, so there is a ton I haven't seen yet.

I picked up the game yesterday, and after waiting 3 hours for the download, I figured I'd quickly create my character before I went to bed. It took me an hour. And I didn't even notice the time going by Here she is: I played for about 3 hours today and probably will play a little bit more, but I really don't want to stop at all. I have to be a semi-responsible adult, though, I guess. So far, I've recruited Shadowheart and Wyll, and met Lae'zel, but haven't seen her since the fight on the Nautiloid. Also, I saw this when I leveled up today. RUDE.

I could have sworn I did write about it here, so I went to find it and...I didn't I found some posts talking about the game while I played, and then another post from July 2022 saying I'd finished BF a few months before. So I don't know why I have memories of writing about what I thought of the game. Maybe it was a PM between us in the Uplay launcher? Or Origin? Or maybe it just never happened One sentence on what you thought? Whoops, got distracted thinking about the post I apparently never wrote Here are my thoughts as well as I can remember them: It was awesome. Lots of fun to play, and better ship combat than Rogue, AC3, and Odyssey. Edward is fine. Likeable enough as a character, though not one of my favorites. I'm not a pirate fan in general, but taking down ships was really fun in this game.
The ending was fine, but having read the novel focused on Haytham and knowing what is going to happen in their future (not just to Edward), it made the ending...less sweet than it looked, I suppose. I liked AC3's ending better, even though I really wish we could have saved Haytham.

Yeah, I finished Black Flag a while ago. You helped me find ships to raid Rogue is short, but I kind of lost interest in it part of the way in. It got tedious traveling back and forth across the map just to have one conversation at each location. But I want to finish it eventually. Honestly it is only worth finishing for the story links to the other games AC3 and the lead into Unity. Yeah I remembered helping you I just couldn't remember if you finished it, did you write it up on here? I loved the ending, it was one of the only games to make me cry both during the game (Mary Read's story) and at the very end when Anne Bonnie sings and Edwards daughter arrives. Or Origin? Or maybe it just never happened

Probably not on release. I prefer the older style gameplay, but I want to wait for more gameplay footage and reviews to make sure this really is a return to the old style. If I like what I see, I'll probably still get it pretty soon after release. Otherwise, it might be something I get on sale in the future. I still have to finish Rogue and Unity, and play Origins Rogue is pretty short, did you finish Black Flag? From what I saw in the review you posted Origins may be a good lead in to Mirage. Yeah, I finished Black Flag a while ago. You helped me find ships to raid Rogue is short, but I kind of lost interest in it part of the way in. It got tedious traveling back and forth across the map just to have one conversation at each location. But I want to finish it eventually.

Are you going to play it on release dragontartare ? I liked what I saw in the trailer but wonder if I have the patience to go back to that older style gameplay. Probably not on release.
