I'm back on SWTOR and I started a new dynasty in Guild 2. Six generations in and no one has died of influenza yet. Apparently Cologne was a much healthier choice. Usually people are dropping like flies!

I'm back to an oldie but goldie from the good old times before quest GPS and minimaps.
"Kyle? Kyle Katarn? You're the legendary hero who destroyed Jerec at the Valley of the Jedi? You look like nothing more than a bantha herder."
"While you look like an overgrown Kowakian monkey-lizard, so I guess looks don't count for much."

I'm currently playing the Witcher series, since I've never played them and I need something to fill the void between now and Andromeda xD So far I'm not really into the first game so far... but I have heard so many amazing things about 3 so I'm determined to get to it. I keep being told to just play 3 but I'm a completionist and would feel weird starting on the third game lol

I can't get past the lack of character the main character has. That monotone voice, and lack of emotional responce to any situation. I know, according to the lore, the transformation into a witcher can make you like that. But it isn't very fun to play, for me at least.

Finally finished Kingdoms of Amalur this morning, then jumped into an indie puzzle-platformer I've been meaning to try called Limbo. I'm probably ~80% through it now. ![](http://www.playdead.com/css/img/LIMBO_game.png) First off - love the art style ![B)](//storage.proboards.com/6576594/images/svRGzLVjsxnVDvfLJOrp.png) , but the inconsistent tone and gameplay make it a bit of mixed bag though. The ambiance and horror elements early in the game are well done. I really enjoyed the feel of the first early sections. Some of the puzzles are integrated in quite nicely and make sense (mostly the outdoors ones). But the game switches about halfway through in both tone and environment. You go from this great creepy forest with menacing giant spiders and homicidal children pulled straight from The Lord of the Flies to these... generic industrial complex levels. And it completely changes the tone from horror to the most boring mechanical platformer. Hop on the giant gears, run through the pneumatic pounders, push the crates around, throw a switch here, pull a lever there... that sort of thing. ![](http://yoursmiles.org/msmile/misc/m0722.gif) And these levels are pure gamey, feeling like it was crafted by the same fine architects who made Donkey Kong. And then they try to insert some "comedy" with these brain worms that drop on you periodically, temporarily turning you into a comedic, suicidal zombie. The puzzles themselves are a mixed bag as well, some crafted well, offering a good challenge every now and again. Others... I liked the puzzles you could look at and work them out in your head. Others on the other hand are crafted so that you will fail (and die) and you won't be able to puzzle them out until you've died at least once. However, some of the death scenes are... pretty impressive, especially in the early horror sections, and worth dying just to see them. I haven't finished it though, so I'll reserve a final judgement on it, but so far I'd say... save your money on this one. I hear the sequel though - Inside is supposed to be very good. Hopefully, it'll be a few steps up from its predecessor...

I finished Limbo this morning (and having finished it did not change my opinion on it), then moved straight to Inside. ![](http://www.funkyvideogames.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/Inside-Game-Walkthrough.jpg) This was definitely a stronger game than their previous Limbo. Loved the art style in this game (just as I did with Limbo), and they really knew how to sell those key moments. Especially the scenes where they pull back and you get a sense of the grandeur of this place. The level variety and transitions between locales worked much better in this game than in Limbo. Lots of hidden areas to find, some great underwater segments. And everything seemed to move forward at the right pace, with just the right amount of foreshadowing and increasing dread. The standout here being a creepy af "mermaid" which will make you wish for those murderous dobermans earlier in the game... The horror-comedy elements, for the most part, worked. My impressions of the final segments were a mix of ![](http://www.pic4ever.com/images/character0114.gif) and ![:-/](//storage.proboards.com/6576594/images/rJP0OwNvhHtDtXRlQRJW.png) Without any spoilers, if they had played it as straight horror, I feel it would have worked better. The puzzles were a mix of good to not-so-good. Some fit the environment very well, some were just pure gamey. There are a few that offered a good challenge, but most were pretty straightforward. There are a couple that require crackerjack timing on your part though. The worst were the "stay out of the spotlight" segments, where you had quickly perform an action multiple times while evading a spotlight. And they had a tendency to use the same style of puzzle too many times. More variety would have been nice, especially in the middle sections. That said, having gone into this game blind, it does take some unexpected turns. Kudos to Playdead there. There's certainly some... interesting narrative turns and gameplay in the final segments. So while I couldn't recommend Limbo, this one I can recommend. And if you do decide to play it, be sure not to spoil yourself beforehand. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/6576594/images/uYQYVMAupPAfTXFFwWlB.png)

Finished both playthroughs for Witcher 2. I’d forgotten how critical the differences in Act II were since playing them long ago. Aside from larger plot points, character bits I.e. rhymes with Asuka + S&A are the first that come to mind, one twist in the former threw me for a loop. Many of these side quests throw in robust perspective towards the nation-sized conflict. Found that I preferred the main character’s movement animations a bit over the Souls series, actually - the series can feel either unintentionally clunky, or *slightly* less realistic. Similar to how VaatiVidya once described the movement for the game Lords of the Fallen, there’s a greater sense of weight to your swings and character. You can even see Witcher’s influence to said game from the bosses’ pirouetting attack style. To a certain extent, the timing for abilities like Parry/Riposte feel more forgiving in terms of reacting to enemies. While Aard can debatably trump the effort altogether, I found Yrden adept at handling Shielded Knights & Wraiths moreso than using the old force push. I love Seltkirk’s Armor. *Points up* Has a color scheme close to WoW’s Judgement Armor, but isn’t following the bulky Space Marine/Power Armor template that blizzard‘s wardrobe is sometimes known for; You could probably find similar ilk in a museum, or historical books of yesteryear. Both narratively and otherwise, perhaps the grounded nature is part of the allure for fantahistorical; George R.R. Martin himself has mentioned many parts of his fiction were pulled out of real-world events. So I did re-read the BSN KoF blog on Witcher 2. All 9,334 words of it. Since we’re on the subject of historical books, it reads quite close to one, holding remarkable detail on the factional juggling act that the game made surprisingly digestible - it seems the best GoT game to date isn’t actually Game of Thrones? Zoinks. Even picked up on a few things I’d forgotten in Witcher 1, like an exchange between Zoltan amid Geralt’s existential blues. So yep, it’s stood the test of time along the likes of Hylian Dan’s The Philosophy of the Wind Waker and The Message of Majoras Mask in terms of Uber-Articles. Reactive Action-Oriented Combat, Deep/Complex Storyline, and Fight Club Sidequests. Of course I approve.

*shivering* Just finished Grout's Mansion....it is way scarier and more tense than I remember it being.... I also think the community mods have added content because there were a whole heap of rooms I don't remember - like some random sun garden where I just started burning!!!?? Yet another reminder - as if I needed one - as to why I love this game.

But Blood and Wine....I saw it said somewhere else...maybe here, maybe on BSN Prime - but B&W is the best send off to a video game character I've ever seen. Also replaying this at the moment in tandem with Bloodlines and DA:I (again) and Civ 6. Just reached Velen, so still very early days.

But played TW2 when it came on special on Steam (around $8, from memory) and enjoyed it, but actively disliked Geralt and HATED the combat. The graphics were about the only thing there was to recommend it over DA2 (which was around the same time). Fast forward to TW3 and it is a different feeling. Geralt is still rather dry, but they've made him more accessible - to me, at least - and the combat is more fluid and responsive. A vastly different experience to TW2 (in my opinion), and a better one. I love TW3, but prefer both Inquisition and Origins (I do like it more the DA2, though).

The combat in 1 is really bad too lol if it's not good in 2 either... I may as well just skip it. ><

To be clear, though, many DID like TW2's combat (I'm just not one of them ) and the game itself is worth a look if you feel so inclined. I am just glad I got it on sale. You'll get a little extra nuance to some events in TW3 if you play 2, but nothing that is critical. TW3 is easily the best "Action RPG" I've ever played. *I don't consider DA games to be Action games, though others may disagree.

I'm back into Witcher 3, I spent all day yesterday trying to make a simple texture mod for Triss, but now I've figured out what I was doing wrong, I'll get back to playing. I'm way under leveled, but I'm going to try and sneak around Toussaint and pick up the Skellige deck without too much fighting, and go back later to do the quests.

Yes!! I totally agree. The main character is so bland, and so far (the first game anyway) is super trope-y. It feels like cut & paste fantasy. I have yet to meet a single character I care about at all. I have never played the first Witcher - but have not heard good things - so can't comment on it. Maybe I just didn't get to the part where we can see geralt come into his own? Because to me, he was still the bland emotionless hero that he was in 1 & 2. I started hunting that dead bride in the abandoned village, but finding the ingredients to make the salve, to damage the spirit was such a chore that I just walked away from the game. I'm a story based gamer myself, so if there isn't a great story, the game becomes tedious for me. And after my disappointment with 1&2, there needed to be a big hook to grab me in 3. And I just didn't see it.

Yeah, still very early at that point. When you get out of the prologue area you discover the main plot of the game and Geralt becomes a bit more animated and invested, because it's personal for him. There isn't a huge change, though (don't want to oversell it), and someone else might not see it the same as I do, but for me, the change is there - and enough to make him likeable.
Also - you don't need the Spectre Oil to complete that quest (at least, I don't think you do...I know it says brew the oil, drink the potions etc, but I don't think you have to). The only compulsory thing is Yrden, which you have from the start.
At the end of the day, though, if you're not feeling it, you're not feeling it. It definitely won't be for everybody.
Even a speed run is quite a time commitment.

Fallout 4. I went back to an older save game after running the gauntlet in Nuka World. I wanted to try the Galactic World trying not to destroy the robots before I collected enough star cores so I can shut off the defenses. Damn that was hard.

I enjoy a couple of old games with small communities that I hope are not shut down. Those are Aion & Marvel Heroes.
I picked up "This War of Mine" on PS4 as it was free with the PS Plus. It was surprisingly good though a bit depressing so not sure I want to play it a second time.
I have a couple games that I bought last year to wrap up but don't feel like it: FFXV and The Division.
Hoping Street Fighter 5 comes out with an Arcade mode - if so I'll play it for a bit but if not it's a purchase I got little value from.

As a warm-up to the upcoming Syberia III, I've started replaying Syberia II (2004 game). ![](http://appleapple.top/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/34a9508824212554be56c5b1543e4560.jpg) I replayed the first Syberia in the summer, and still stands up as one of my all-time favorite Indie games. While Syberia II has its moments, it... can't seem to recapture the magic of the first game. I forgot how this game does. not. hold. your. hand. in solving its puzzles. There's a puzzle with lemmings, berries, ice tunnels, a cork stopper, a flask of water, and a fishbone that will have you face-mashing your keyboard. ![](//storage.proboards.com/6576594/images/qUctXNjCPgwPaLsZeKry.png) Especially if you didn't realize you needed (and found) those specific inventory items to complete it. I'm probably a little more than halfway through, and I've forgotten so much of this game I'm glad I replayed it. Maybe the characters aren't quite as interesting as the ones in the first game, but are still in the Syberia-style. Everyone is sooo polite in this series. Even the rare antagonists. They may wish you harm, but it'll be done with more than a modicum of decorum! The background locations are again meticulously crafted, though they make you backtrack so often that it does become tedious at times. It feels like it was deliberately done to pad out the length of the game. And I still enjoy the Syberia-style puzzles. When you solve one of the trickier ones, you feel smart. (or at least very, very persistent) (possibly just lucky)
