What makes me happy is holding my final medical reports in my hands that say that my probes show no sign of an inflammation in my guts. From spring to autumn I was so ill that I was not far away from death and none of the specialists could treat me or even identify my illness. There is the so called calprotectine scale, its a very good indicator of measuring the severeness of a gut infection, it is basically a byproduct that accumulates in the stool when the immune system is actively fighting in the guts, creating an infection. Normal levels are 0-50, a score of 400 is a typical very bad stomach flu with cramps, diarrhea and high fever, my scale was over 2000 for 4 months (The scale ends at 2000). Now I got the results of my last two measurements and they constantly stay at 37 which basically means there is no infection left and my guts are recovering. Whatever that was it either calmed down or it got defeated. I think I have never been happier in my life before. Considering the horrors I had to endure 24/7, how crappy I felt and how life threatening my situation was this is really legitimately comparable to having survived a major war. Heck, I'd rather go to war than having to endure this again. Now I just have to deal with my PTSD. Beetle! Damn dude! I'm glad you're ok. That sounds like it was scary. Wow...and they have no idea what it was? I doubt it was something you ate, unless you eat a lot of sushi and got some kind of parasite? What kind of meds did they put you on? Story time? I spent two weeks at the intensive care station of a hospital especially dedicated to treat severe gut conditions like gut cancer and infections, they did a TON of examinations and they could not figure out what was happening with me. One of the leading experts in Europe was trying to figure out what was going on but they ruled out parasites, the 3 anti biotics I was taking would have wiped out any bacteria, my immune system would have killed a virus in that time too. Before I got ill I did nothing out of the ordinary, I did not meet any friends, nobody was ill at that time, it was winter so I stayed at home - everything was boringly normal.
A sudden freak reaction of my immune system attacking my own body is possible, but the symptoms are usually very different. They then gave me TWICE the allowed dosage of cortisone which, mind bogglingly, did help nothing at all to ease the inflammation. They then gave me a very high dosage of drugs specifically designed to ease inflammations in the guts, unfortunately I reacted very violently on that drug and it got even worse in a matter of hours, at that point I was crapping blood 20 times a day/night to the point I got anemic from the blood loss, and the pain was unbearable. The inflammation was so bad that parts of my guts dissolved, pus was everywhere and I was close to sepsis because the stool started to enter my blood stream.
The doctors then told me hat I had two options: getting a surgery where they cut out the infected parts of the colon, which would have been half of my lower colon, which of course leads to severe complications later on - or getting a last resort drug that is used for people who get organ transplants to dull down the immune system, which leads to increased risk of getting cancer, liver damage, sepsis and a whole bunch of other terrible things. And success with those options was completely uncertain due to the unknown cause and nature of my illness.
Seeing as all their other treatments failed horribly and they even worsened my condition I simply went home, half delirious, I just wanted to curl up in my own bed and die, not in an awful hospital bed surrounded by a bunch of idiots.
At home my mother reminded me of a very old drug that is basically pills of tannic acid, which is used to treat mild diarrhea. It has no side effects, its a non-prescription drug and it had been used for 130 years to treat mild gut problems. Its such a mild drug it can be used on infants. Next day after taking one of those pills I felt considerably better, so much better I started to take 10 pills a day. Additionally I started a very strict diet, no processed food, no corn, no milk, very little sugar. My condition improved daily over a period of three months, now I have proof that the inflammation is gone, both by endoscopy and stool tests. Some areas of my colon are very scarred though. I told the docs about my self treatment and my success with this old drug but they just shrugged it off and said that whatever it was simply ran its course, dismissing the effects of the drug I took.
Whatever it was, or is, one thing is for sure, my confidence in modern medicine and pharmacy took a big hit. That was a total disaster.
Thats my story in a nutshell, keep in mind I was that ill for more than 6 months.

I'm glad you're better, I've been hearing how some old treatments, no longer in practice, are being used and have proven better than what is being used now. Doctors shouldn't be getting paid by big pharma. If the bleeding wasn't caused by the medication, I woulda thought you had a human case of parvo...but that's treated with penicillin. I'm glad you're feeling better, it must have been scary.

Cheese. Cheese makes me incredibly happy. Especially brie (goat milk kind is amaaaaaaazeballs), muenster, and queso in any and all forms. I can find an excuse to put queso on most anything.

One of the best mundane but happiest moments per day is eating my favorite sweets after a productive weight lifting session.
Its like celebrating a small victory.

I admit it: sometimes it makes me happy to be a tiny bit spiteful. Today, I was bombarded with smalltalk from my boss all day long. And if it's not smalltalk, he drones on about an email he needs to write. And if he's writing one, he speaks out loud every word he's typing. Or he's on the phone spreading his non-existent humor in the form of "jokes". Bottom line: he never shuts up, and he's loud. So he was about to go to a meeting, when my frustration finally took over, which resulted in the following conversation: He: "Okay, I'm off - in case you don't hear from me again today..." Me: "Well that's a bit unlikely, as it would require you to shut up for a minute now, wouldn't it?" The mortally offended look on his face was totally worth it and still makes me happy. (Yes, you may now proceed to call me petty. ^^)

The way I see it, people who like to employ insults disguised as jokes must be prepared to get some of those thrown back at them.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
And there's only so much terrorizing I can take per day before turning snarky.

I was chatting to this woman in work today like I always do, just chatting away about emails and telling her these really funny blonde jokes that are absolutely hilarious. Well anyway, we’d been chatting for quite a while, well I say we she hardly spoke it was mostly me talking, when I get called to go to a meeting.
So I say to this lady, OK I’m off, in case you don’t hear from me today. And do you know what the cheeky Bitch said? “Well that’s a bit unlikely as it would require you to shut up for a minute wouldn’t it?”
I was mortified. I didn’t do anything wrong, all I did was chat to her for a couple of hours and tell her some of my best blonde jokes. I couldn’t stop thinking about it all throughout the meeting.
Well anyway I came back to the office late when everybody had gone and took a shit on her desk. Now I’m happy.

It is very cute how you think office life is like She’s at it again look, condescending her boss. It’s a good job I’m so laid back (I constantly win manager of the month btw) or I would report you to HR for bullying. And probably femsplaining too. Please do! I mean, all the other HR reports were filed against you, so I admire you striving for more balance in your life.
And manager of the month? Nah. We don't do that here.

OMG I just found out about the continuation of my favorite Internet comic. The animated comic was on hold for like 10 years, but now out of nowhere - a teaser!
