Does it say if the position is available remotely/telecommute-primarily or must one move to Texas? Because the latter isn't happening. Don't like Texas? If not, let me tell you that Austin is in Texas but not really part of it (culturally). I lived in Austin for nearly 4 years. It's a very nice place with all sorts of things to do. If I were qualified, I'd drop a resume on them. I'd love to have a reason to move back there. Even if this position sounds like it would suck. This is true, sort of, but you are still subject to some state laws that may make you feel uncomfortable regardless of how "progressive" Austin feels. How long ago was it? I loved Austin... In the late 90's, early 00's. Haven't been back, so can't speak with authority. |

If they act like normal human beings and not like some corporate paperdoll, talk to people and answer the questions like a gentleman or a lady should do without ignoring anything, they'd be fine here. Most of them are just guys and gals and not any VIP even remotely yet some fans approach it like some divine suddenly descended from the heavens. Well, sorry to disappoint but they are not. And same is true especially for VIP although in my experience, most VIP understand these things quite well. |

Their conveyance of information to the player base has been absolutely useless in recent years, but I'm not sure a community manager will help unless they have both the authority and the drive get the company to be more open with their planning. They seem paralysed by fear of having comments construed as promises, so they simply don't say anything which is not a solution at all. As for re-establishing forums, probably the correct decision but it will be a long road back to regain the trust of the community.

Despite all the flak he gets, Eric Musco is really an ok guy, but he either has nothing to say because nobody tells him anything or he's always regurgitating the same "we're listening to your feedback, stay tuned" kinda lines because muh publicly traded company muh legal obligations etc. Unless they are really committed to fundamentally changing the way they interact with their fan base, a new CM is just someone to hurl abuse at so devs can tweet about Mario Kart in peace. |

I'll give you that Texas has more than its' fair share of inane laws but, I wouldn't say the average citizen of Austin pays much attention to laws. Also, probably why the politicians hang out there. As for a community manager, I hope they hire someone with genuine desire to do that job and they give that person actual authority to do it. I played STO for a bit and during that time there was a community manager "Laughing Trendy". She would gather stuff from the forums and poke at the dev until there was some kind of answer she could give us. She was involved with the forums and the other media including just joking around. She went to bat for the customers. We could use someone like her. Ultimately, PWE decided to "promote" her and she disappeared, then was laid off. That's probably what will happen with this position as well if they get anyone good. |
