I wonder. What is the default if you do absolutely nothing? Does Celene get assassinated if you don't bother to gather the blackmail? What if you skip all the halla except to get you to the Florianna fight? If you just stand there and do absolutely nothing, then nothing will happen. Because it's a game and...um...stuff. If you get thrown out, then Florienne shanks Celene, blames it on Gaspard so he'll be hanged, presumably has Brialla cooked into rabbit stew and Cory becomes the new emperess. In a more serious manner. If you just do the bare necessities, the game makes you: Find the letters in the room above the courtyard, Gaspards knife in emissary back, meet Briala, dance with Florienne, hear the info from the elf in Flo old room, Flo's exposition and the Fereldan mercenary. So no matter how badly you do, you always know Flo is the assassin, so you can always choose to do a renegade interrupt on the dance floor or stay your hand. And you always have enough info to frame Gaspard and get Briala to stay in court/hanged. (Still I'm not a 100% sure on this, so someone is probably going to come and prove me completely wrong. Bleh)

I actually enjoyed the quest a lot my first (blind) playthrough. It was a nice change of pace from other quests. However, on later playthroughs when trying to get specific results it became much more of a pain.

The Court Approval loss is really nothing major. It's horrendously easy to accumulate more than enough approval in WEWH. Seriously. I've managed to keep about 90-100/100 approval by the end of the night with a Qunari mage character. If you actually listen to Leliana / Josie / practically anyone who talks about the Game and how it's played, that mission is a peace of cake. Keep up the appearances and don't show anyone your cards, don't be rude to people or jump on tables - or, if you do, find out more embarrassing information about the other people in the party and get it to Leliana so she can put it into good use. I get that this mission is not everyone's cup of tea and the nobles in the party are generally super obnoxious and annoying (but that's what makes one-upping them even more fun IMO), but hard it ain't.

^ Yeah, I think so. I found that in general if you pay attention to people's reactions to your dialogue choice, it's fairly easy to see that the Orlesian court appreciates polite but witty remarks. There was the one time I jumped over the balustrade (terrible habit from Skyhold ), and I probably shouldn't have done that... I guess my biggest problem with this quest is that it all just boils down to another collect-athon in a game that already has too many. How do you succeed? You don't get to know the court, you don't manipulate it or make backroom deals, you just look for shinies. In a game that talks up Orlesian politics as much as Inquisition, making that the way actually get to participate in them is not a good thing. That didn't occur to me before, but you're right. There was enough dialogue with random nobles and Inquisition members to make it interesting for me, but much of it was not relevant to the plot unfortunately. Then again, since this is Orlais, the only plot-relevant information you should expect to get would be from your advisers.

Just realized--you know that walk through will be deleted in like two weeks when they delete the whole forum, right? I didn't realise it either. I'll have to c/p it here while correctly accrediting it to the poster who actually wrote it. Edited to add: I've c/ped it onto a document though I notice a few others have done it too. Still I'll create a thread here on this forum for it. That guide is the only thing that gets me through WEWH if I haven't played DAI in awhile and no longer remember the exact details.

Then again, since this is Orlais, the only plot-relevant information you should expect to get would be from your advisers. Haha. It never would've occurred to me to hop over railings or similar obstructions in the Winter Palace. "Element Zero Greatly Approves" that the nobles take note of such behavior. That's amusing. ( I can say with near certainty that this is the first and last time that one of my posts will feature a third person reference to myself.) It really is extremely easy to achieve and maintain 100 approval. I've never failed to do so, and have never used a guide for this mission. I believe that is likely the key to my somewhat enjoying it (see my previous posts for criticisms). Players are getting stressed about finding this or that, about the "oppressive" time limit, and other things. None of these things are as big a deal as they appear to be. There is plenty of time to explore, and there are plenty of opportunities to woo the court. Just play the game and enjoy.

Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts is, I suspect, an example of a questline that got a lot of content cut. It feels like there should be a lot more stuff going on, and a lot of things we should be learning. But instead we're...looking for halla statues...?
Seriously, I think we're missing something. These three characters that had an entire book devoted to them (Celene, Gaspard, Briala) are cardboard cutouts in the game. Why should I care who gets the throne?
Definitely the weakest part of the game.

Maybe I'm too linear trained, it never occurred to me to make this short cut. I'm going to do it next time. Why the heck not? ^___^ Domakir I also didn't know you could get kicked out! Wow! LOL That was lame! I don't know how they could have changed it, but I wish having Orlesian Allies weren't completely required to win the game.

As I found out the hard way by accidentally stepping on a table. Skyhold, you jump down 2 floors and land on Solas's table, no one bats an eye. But yeah, all you have to do really is be sarcastic and you win. Even with its problems, I do like this mission because its unlike the other missions where you just cut down mob upon mob of enemies.

Ah, no,I usually get lost, stuff something up or get bored waiting for the juicy gossip to kick in. I've managed to get 100% once, maybe twice (but not at the right time, i thought once you'd hit the 100% mark it stuck, but apparently not for my canon inqui.), I've been thrown out once (don't put the game on hold to watch Strictly...that must have been about a year ago!)and my first Inquisitor, a qunari, fell flat on her face while wandering around the ball room. Couldn't get Bull to dance with me either, boo hiss.
I've read Masked Empire since and it didn't really help, I still don't really care who gets to rule Orlais, they're all as bad as each other, but i've had Gaspard and Briala, Celene and Briala and i think just Celene. My canon Lavellan wanted Briala in power but that was about as strong as any of my Inquisitors have felt about it. It's a neat idea, but a little over long and your choice of companions should have more to do. Morrigan's entrance is great, Cassandra's distaste for the whole proceedings is nice and I can't help but giggle over Solas' bizarre taste in headgear. But i want Sera to be running pranks in the background to help the servants get back at their masters and Vivienne to be waltzing around being icily scathing to everyone, or Cole to be innocently blurting out everyone's secrets.

First, OP..... I found this handwritten guide immensely useful for Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts. That guide saved me a lot of anger, hassle and aggravation. I'm told its a better quest if you've read "The Masked Empire." But I haven't actually read it myself so its just hearsay at this point. forum.bioware.com/topic/542866-simplified-wicked-eyes-and-wicked-hearts-walkthrough/Secondly, yeah at the very end of Trespasser the Inquisitor does get his/her arm chopped off at the elbow. I'm still working my way through Hakkon and Descent DLCs so I haven't experienced it yet myself. Honestly I'm pretty annoyed by it too. I like my Rift Mage Trevelyan, I don't want to see her hurt. As for Solas well, that's a BioWare staple. There's always someone who is lying all along and will betray you. (Usually only if certain conditions are right but not always.) I'm not happy about eventually being forced to neuter or disband the Inquisition either. It just seems so ungrateful of the rulers/nobles of Thedas to let us break our backs saving the world then turn around and ruin us barely two years later. But I haven't actually played Tresspasser yet. There are probably a lot of little variations and facts going on that we don't get to read in spoilers. So I've resolved to do it all at least once then see if its worth finishing up on my other characters or just leaving it all there and then like I did at the end of ME3. Just realized--you know that walk through will be deleted in like two weeks when they delete the whole forum, right? Fear not. It is on the Fextralife site, here. They have an extensive collection of threads from the old BSN.

I like the idea of a main line quest that isn't combat heavy but I always end up hating this quest when I get to it. I can't seem to ever find my way around, I have no patience for hunting halla statues, and it's basically "press the middle option for best results." I really liked The Masked Empire and I like the Orlesian lore in the game but this quest is just a slog the whole way through.
