When English people ask how you are, (most of the time) we're only being polite. Please don't actually tell us how you are. Seriously, any answer other than "I'm fine, thanks", tends to make us extremely uncomfortable.
(We're not exactly adept at sharing personal details or knowing how to respond in these types of situations)
As a Scot I can vouch for that. Default response is "fine" and that's it. We don't want tragic tales of woe and misfortune, it's not a therapy session. I believe some consider it to be rude and bad manners to respond to "How are you ?" with anything more detailed than a "fine". That also holds true for the US and for Canada, in my experience.
Although here in the South, you can vary your response by commenting on the weather:
"I wish this rain would stop."
"It's hot out, isn't it?"
"What a gorgeous day!"
Or hurl the question back at your interlocutor without answering:
"How are you?"
None of the responses require sincerity although people will judge you if your description of the weather does not match up with reality.

Almost nobody in Austria knows about "The Sound of Music" and those who do, usually just facepalm when they are confronted with it. The movie was played in theatres back in the 60s alright, but it was a big flop in both Germany and Austria, mostly because of all the historical inaccuracies and the plain stereotypes depicted. Personally, I think it's not a lot trashier than the "Sissi Trilogy", which people here seem to adore for some strange reason. Double standards. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I know all your countries' traditions and secrets!

Didn't bother me in the least that it was made in Japan. xD

This is very random, are there any international celebrities/actor's that best represent your accent/vicinity/nationality?. The actor's that best represent my Scottish accent are James McAvoy and Robert Carlyle. I thought it might be interesting to give a bit of character and humanity to the dry text. So imagine what I'm typing is in their accent and it's a fair if not 100% approximation of what I would be speaking.

Ryan Reynolds and the general mentality of the typical white guy of that approximate age or younger in this vicinity; major Vancouver area/Vancouver Island/Ie. West Coast. (Canadian)

I guess think of Anna Paquin doing a half arsed posh english accent. I'm English but I've lived in New Zealand long enough that it has fucked my accent up.

I might as well speak for Turkey.
Let's see...
Ah yes, Turkey was once the Ottoman Empire.
There you go.
