I would take any 'news' story out of the daily mail with a truck load of salt. Here's the BBC version...

Pensioner, 100, is battered to the ground and left with a broken neck by handbag-stealing muggersBy Dianne Apen-sadler | Updated: 11:36 EDT, 28 May 2018 - Centenarian was mugged at around 8.30am today in Normanton, Derbyshire - She was approached from behind and did not see her attacker, police said - Victim is still in hospital but her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening A 100-year-old woman was left with a broken neck after being knocked to the ground by muggers who took her handbag. The centenarian had her green handbag stolen at 8.30am today near the junction of St Chad's Road and Empress Road in Normanton, Derbyshire, police said. The woman, who also suffered bruising to her face, said she was approached from behind before being knocked over. She is still in hospital but her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening at this time. Detective Sergeant Laura Kershaw said: 'The victim has been unable to give us a description of the person or persons responsible for this robbery - this is why we need your help to find who did this. 'If you were in or around the junction of Empress Road and St Chad's Road at around 8.30am - and to anyone who may have been in the area of Moore Street and Normanton Road between 8.30am and 9.15am. 'We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have seen anyone with a bag matching the one pictured in any suspicious circumstances. 'In particular, if you have CCTV or dash cam footage that may have picked up the footage of the offence or of the offenders carrying the bag in the nearby area. 'This is a particularly nasty incident that has targeted a very vulnerable elderly woman who was unable to defend herself. We need your help to find and stop those responsible.' The stolen green bag, which is made of fake leather and gold clasps, was found at the junction of Moore Street and Normanton Road. Anyone with any information is being asked to call 101 quoting reference 224-280518. The incident has sparked anger on social media. Vonnie Witton said: 'What is this country coming to? Absolutely disgusting.' Rhia Mclean wrote: '100 year old robbed and for what. The poor woman wouldn't have been able to fight back.' Sarah Bowley added: 'I do hope the lady makes as good a recovery as she is able. And I will start praying that there is a pit deeper than hell for the absolute scum that did this to her. Absolutely disgusting.'
Update... Man, 39, is arrested on suspicion of murder after death of 100-year-old woman whose neck was snapped after she was mugged on way to churchBy Richard Spillett | Updated: 04:17 EDT, 7 June 2018 - 100-year-old died after she was attacked in a crime which has shocked Britain - It was initially thought she would survive the attack by she died a week later - Police have now arrested a 39-year-old man on suspicion of murder - They are appealing for information of a Seat car as part of their investigation The suspected attacker of a 100-year-old woman who died after she was mugged on her way to church is in custody following his arrest.
Sophie Kaczan died in hospital after her neck was broken during a vicious mugging in Derby on May 28.
Mrs Kaczan, who survived the Nazi invasion of Poland before coming to Britain to start a new life after the war, was attacked in the street last week.
Derbyshire Police said today that a 39-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of her murder and is currently being questioned.
A Derbyshire Police spokesman said today: 'Zofija Kaczan passed away early yesterday morning.
'She suffered multiple injuries, including a broken neck, as a result of the robbery, which happened at around 8.45am on Monday, May 28, close to the junction of St Chads Road and Empress Road in Normanton.
'She had told us that she was approached from behind, knocked over and had her handbag stolen.
'A 39-year-old man, who was previously arrested on suspicion of robbing Mrs Kaczan, has now been arrested on suspicion of her murder. He remains in police custody and is being questioned.'
Detectives are appealing for information about a beige/silver Seat Leon seen in the area at the time, with the registration plate SL02 KVZ.
The spokesman added: 'We want to hear from anyone who may have information about the driver of the vehicle – or if you have CCTV or dash cam footage that shows the vehicle?'
Ms Kaczan's friend and neighbour Stacia Fitzsimmons, 55, said the mugger had in effect taken the pensioner's life.
'She would still be walking to church every morning if it wasn't for the person who has done this – he has killed her.'
Mrs Ftzsimmons added: 'It's so upsetting – she was like a mother to me. It is just awful that she has had to live out her final days like this. I just hope that the police catch whoever did this to Zofija.'
Mrs Kaczan was attacked moments after leaving her semi-detached home in the Normanton area of Derby to attend a service at the nearby St Maksymilian Kolbe Polish Church. Neighbours said she went there most days.
It is feared the mugger may have got away with as much as £1,000 as her bag – with a £900 utility bill inside – was later found dumped. Friends said she may have had the cash to pay the bill in her bag at the time.
The perp knew she had that money. It wasn't random.

It's their life though. If they want to end it that's their business. As long as the individual doesn't have anyone depending on them and they do it in a private manner I have no problem with it.

Video and images available via link... 'I've done nothing wrong': Defiant 'Dancing Doctor' defends her YouTube videos shot during surgeries a day before her license is suspendedBy Jessica Finn and Snejana Farberov | Updated: 09:58 EDT, 8 June 2018 - Dr Windell Davis-Boutte went on HLN Wednesday, saying all videos were planned and staged with her patients' consent - The next day, Georgia's Composite Medical Board issued suspension, citing a threat to public health if Davis-Boutte continues to practice medicine - Davis-Boutte is also facing several malpractice lawsuits from former patients - YouTube videos showed Davis-Boutte singing lyrics 'I'm 'bout to cut it' before slicing a patient - Ojay Liburd blamed Boutte for leaving mom Icilma Cornelius with brain damage - Said mother was left on the operating table for more than 8 hours during surgery - Attorney for Cornelius says nearly 100 women came forward to say they suffered in Boutte's care - Some of the women allege they were able to identify themselves in her videos Medical authorities in Georgia have suspended the license of a doctor who posted videos of herself dancing with a scalpel over anesthetized patients during plastic surgeries.
Georgia's Composite Medical Board issued the emergency suspension on Thursday, citing a threat to public health and welfare if Dr. Windell Davis-Boutte continues to practice medicine.
A day earlier, a defiant Davis-Boutte denied any wrongdoing in her first televised interview since the controversy erupted, which aired on the Headline News cable network.
'Yes, I've done the soul searching, and no, I've done nothing wrong,' Davis-Boutte proclaimed.
The board-certified dermatologist went on to say that all the YouTube videos were planned and staged with her patients' consent, although some patients said they never signed consent forms.
Boutte suggested that the videos, which she insisted were filmed in a safe and controlled environment towards the end of surgeries, have been taken out of context.
'Had I had the forethought and the foresight that an entity could take those innocent, consented, educational and celebratory videos, misconstrue them, edit and fabricate the context, and use it for negative agendas, I would not have done it,' she said.
The medical board said one of Davis-Boutte's patients, Sherita Cox, suffered a collapsed lung after liposuction and breast augmentation surgery on May 30.
Attorney Susan Witt, who represents three women suing the doctor for malpractice, said the board interviewed her hospitalized client on Wednesday. She also said that nearly 100 women have reached out to her claiming that have suffered in Davis-Boutte's care.
Among Witt's clients is the family of a bride to be, Icilma Cornelius, who went in for a tummy tuck and liposuction in 2016 with Dr. Windell Boutte's, and was left brain dead.
Boutte's public YouTube channel, which has since been taken down, showed the Lilburn, Georgia, physician performing surgeries while singing, dancing and cavorting over her exposed patients.
Witt said many of the women who have come forward did so because they felt Boutte had a lack of care and concern for her patients.
Additionally, at least two of the women who came forward to Witt said that they were able to identify themselves in the YouTube videos.
'I think in this day and age, patients do have to be their own advocate,' Witt said. 'This has been a cautionary tale which I believe patients can learn from.'
While Boutte advertises that she is 'board certified in both surgery and dermatology,' she is a certified dermatologist and not a board-certified plastic surgeon or general surgeon, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
In Georgia, licensed doctors are authorized to perform surgery, even if it is not their specialty.
'I think in this day and age, patients do have to be their own advocate,' Witt said. 'This has been a cautionary tale which I believe patients can learn from.'
'I would not recommend having surgery anywhere other than a hospital or ambulatory surgical center,' Witt cautioned.
In the more than 20 videos that were previously posted to Boutte's YouTube channel, the doctor is seen cutting into a patient's abdomen as she sings along to the O.T. Genasis song 'Cut It.'
In a recent interview with WSB-TV, Latoyah Archine Rideau identified herself as the patient in the 'Cut It' video and said the surgery left her feeling 'disfigured.'
'To see that video, with my flesh being cut without a straight line, and [her] dancing while cutting me, that's horrible,' Rideau told the station, adding that she never signed a consent form for the video.
In another clip, Boutte is seen leaning over a patients half-bare buttocks without a mask or gloves on, while rapping the lyrics to Migos' 'Bad and Boujee.' In that video Boutte tells the camera, 'My patients are bad and boujee. Building up fat in the booty.'
'You could not present a patient in a more undignified manner,' Witt has said.
Thus far Boutte has five malpractice lawsuits pending against her and has reached four settlements, according to CNN.
Ojay Liburd, 26, has blamed Boutte for leaving his mother, Icilma Cornelius, with permanent brain damage.
Cornelius was just weeks away from getting married and earning her PhD when she visited Boutte for a tummy tuck and liposuction in 2016.
But Cornelius' heart stopped after she was left on the operating table for more than eight hours. She will now need care for the rest of her life, and did not end up getting married.
'She just wanted to be perfect for her wedding dress,' Liburd said. 'She had everything going for her.'
'That was the first time I ever saw my mom helpless.'
Liburd has a GoFundMe page to help defray costs of caring for his mother.
Mitzi McFarland said after her own liposuction with Boutte, she ended up with incisions that looked 'more like Freddy Krueger cut my stomach'.
This isn't the first time Boutte has come under fire for her work.
In 2013, a woman who went to see Boutte at Premiere Dermatology and Surgery for a scalp irritation said she contracted MRSA during the treatment.
She said she suffered permanent scars on her scalp as a result.

Sounds like Mrs. Kaczan had a routine she followed, so it probably didn't take much for her attacker(s) to become familiar with it.

Bureaucrats Shut Down Your Kids’ Lemonade Stands? Country Time Will Pay the Fines.A summer promotion will cover fines and fees when your local code enforcers come calling. Scott Shackford | Jun. 7, 2018 2:00 pmEvery summer, it seems, brings a parade of outrageous stories about petty local officials who shut down kids' front-yard lemonade stands because the little moppets don't have the right permits. But this summer things might be different as civil disobedience meets corporate marketing. Young lemonade entrepreneurs are getting some support against local bureaucrats from powdered lemonade manufacturer Country Time. This morning the company launched an ingenious summer promotional campaign. Country Time wants your kids to open lemonade stands. If some stiff suit from city hall comes calling, Country Time will help you out by covering the costs of fines and permit fees: This promo site provides the details. To take advantage of the offer, you need to be the parent of a child 14 or younger who has a lemonade stand. Country Time will cover fines or fees up to $300 per child. The company has budgeted $60,000, enough to help at least 200 kids, for the program, which runs through August. But the tweet says Country Time is prepared to create a fund of up to $500,000 to help more kids in future summers. Country Time has an obvious agenda here: More lemonade stands potentially means more people purchasing and consuming its product. But the promotional stunt is a reminder that these meddling local officials are not protecting public safety but interfering in people's lives for stupid reasons and demanding to be paid for the service. Kudos to Country Time for trying to discourage this awful behavior, although in some cases $300 might not be enough to cover rapacious city permitting demands.

I can't stop watching the trailer for Cyberpunk 2077.

I've been taking Bourdain's advice so to heart for so many years, this is...This is a lot. I can't quite wrap my head around the idea that he would. And by hanging? I just wouldn't have ever expected it, especially after he'd seemingly recovered so much from his addiction and he'd been working so hard at Jiu Jitsu. Being healthy.

Road kill: Construction workers in India build a STREET over a sleeping dog that dies in agony after burning tar is poured over it and a roller flattens itBy Julian Robinson | Updated: 05:58 EDT, 14 June 2018 - Activists say dog was sleeping by the side of the road when it was covered in tar - The animal later died in agony after being trapped in road surface in Agra, India - Crew left half-buried dog on road before it was spotted by shocked commuters Construction workers in India have sparked anger after building a road over a sleeping dog.
The animal died in agony after burning tar was poured over it during work on a road surface near the Taj Mahal in Agra.
Activists say the dog was asleep and, rather than being chased off, was buried alive before being flattened by a roller.
The crew then left the half-buried animal on the road before it was spotted by shocked commuters on the morning of June 13 - still clinging to life with its hind legs trapped in the freshly-laid tar.
Local resident Virendra Singh said: 'The dog's legs were buried under the tar and it was writhing in agony. The workers refused to break the road to remove it. The dog died after.'
A group of local residents and animal rights activists gathered at the site of the incident and staged a demonstration against the Public Works Department (PWD), which is responsible for the road work.
But PWD officials put the blame on a private firm to whom the work had been outsourced.
Angry protesters seized the construction vehicles and halted work forcing a senior representative of the firm to come to the spot.
He expressed regret over the inhumane act and brought in a digger to remove the dog's carcass.
Station house officer of Sadar police station, Narendra Kumar, said a case has been registered against the firm which was carrying out the repair work. Image below:

That's astonishingly cruel. I hope those responsible all come back as roaster chickens.

Hart County grandmother kills rabid bobcat with bare handsBy Wayne Ford | Jun 15, 2018 at 6:00 AMA rabid bobcat recently attacked a Hart County grandmother in her yard, spurring a furious battle that ended with the cat’s strangulation death.
“I thought, ‘Not today.’ There was no way I was going to die,” DeDe Phillips said Thursday as she recalled the attack that occurred June 7 at her home off Liberty Church Road.
Phillips has begun a round of rabies shots at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. She also has a broken finger, and numerous bite and claw wounds to her hands, arms, chest and legs.
“I’m very lucky,” the 46-year-old woman said.
The unprovoked attack occurred about 6 p.m. She had been working on her truck that afternoon and posted a bumper sticker that read: “Women who behave rarely make history.” She planned to photograph the sticker and send it to her husband.
She walked out of the house with her cell phone.
“My neighbor’s dog was barking and it drew my attention," she said. "I saw the cat and I took a picture. The cat took two steps and was on top of me. ... It came for my face."
Phillips grew up in the country, where her father-in-law was once a trapper of bobcats. As a result, she knew something about the animal’s behavior.
“They go for your jugular ... because when they can get the vein you’re dead in a couple of minutes,” she said.
This bobcat did go for her upper body.
“It caught me slightly on my face, but I got him before he could do much damage there,” she said. “I took it straight to the ground and started inching my hands up to its throat. I knew that was the only way I was getting out of this.”
With both hands around the bobcat’s neck she began squeezing, but she never shouted for help because her 5-year-old granddaughter was in the house.
“I was scared if I screamed for help that my granddaughter would come out and I didn’t want that to happen,” she said.
“Once I got him where he wasn’t moving I started screaming for my daughter-in-law to call 911,” she said. Phillips' son was also called after the 911 call and he showed up with a gun.
But Phillips would not release her grip on the crazed animal as she feared it might not truly be dead.
She didn’t want her son to fire the gun because she was so close, so he pulled a knife.
“My son stabbed it four or five times, but it never budged so I knew it was completely dead,” she said.
After Hart County deputies and an ambulance arrived, Phillips drove herself to a hospital. She learned the next day the bobcat was rabid.
Phillips lives in a rural area near the Elbert County line and said she learned only recently a rabid skunk and rabid fox were found in the same area.
Phillips’ cousin Amy Leann Mize has set up an account in Fundly.com to raise money for Phillips medical expenses as the first round of rabies shots already have cost her $10,000. She also faces expenses for treatments to her wounds.
Find the account at this web address: fundly.com/let-s-help-dede.
