I admit that I'm a bit torn about this. The launch clip definitely needed work, and the revised scene is more dynamic and polished, but I kinda think I prefer the way the Tempest itself was presented in the old clip, because I have a fondness for the perspective from the ground watching a big grand VTOL landing. I probably would have preferred also if the expression and camera framing shot of Ryder be fixed rather than scrapped. Yeah, I think the new trailer is more "Bird's eye view" like in a Marvel Studios movie. I like that there's no longer a shot of a broken facial expression but I don't even think they made the cutscene better. It looks more cinematically refined but the cinematic style they chose this time isn't as grand. I agree. In this instance, the scene doesn't really look like they fixed anything so much as they just threw the view around here and there and avoided what made the scene so problematic in the first place. It would be akin to showing the back of Ryder and Vetra's heads in the first scene aboard the Tempest while it's parked on the Nexus instead of tweaking Ryder's derpy expression. |

It's a far better entrance for the Tempest now. Hmm time for a new playthrough since patch 1.08 dropped, since it seems a lot of the older bugs have been worked out.

They want it to feel like the Enterprise in STAR TREK: TMP but the fact is at this point in the story the player doesn't know a thing about the ship and has no attachment whatsoever to it. It's just another bloody ship in a galaxy full of them.

They clearly wanted the tempest to be important but forgot they were making a game where you spend 90% of the time walking around on solid ground and driving the car. |

This update was unnecessary, yet Bioware Montreal done it anyway.
That only makes me even more confident that Kotaku is full of it. Why would EA kill a company and it's DLC line up, yet still let them release big patches so often? Especially them also releasing few minor DLC's for free.

I assume they did not change Ryder's and Liam's outfits during the football match cutscene to more casual outfits? looks so weird that they are wearing armor in this scene while everyone else is wearing casual clothing.

I didn't watch the video as I want to start a new playthrough with the patches soon but it's good to hear they improved that scene. I thought the Tempest introduction was a bit weak in the unpatched game. Nice to hear they touched it up and I'm now curious to ese what exactly will happen.

Started a new Ryder after the CC patch, and when I reached this scene I thought for a moment I'd completely lost my mind. Thankfully I still had a recording of the same scene from launch day, so here's a comparison... While I still don't mind the original, I can see why they changed it. Aside from removing Ryder's goofy grin, the new version shows off the ship far more dynamically than the single low angle of the original version. Nice to see they fixed the exposure levels too. Definately an improvement. Question is why is it that flybys that always go from right to left and then back to the right again always look more epic than the other way around?  |
