joruska.com/pics/var/resizes/Morrowind/2E_839_Cyrus.jpg (OOC: Takes place in Ferelden.) As he headed towards the village of New Hope, Willis could barely breathe. Despite it being evening, the air felt cloyingly hot. Unusual for Ferelden. Willis was reminded of his youth in Rivain, where the only relief from the humidity was jumping in the ocean, despite it being filthy from the city's run-off. Dirty as it was, it was a relief from the huge flies that would settle on his perspiring face. The village was visible from about half a mile away, Willis sighed and reached for his bag. He got out the letter from Druck which contained the directions to the Merchant's store. Druck was Willis' new boss, he started working with him three days ago. While looking for a new mercenary company in Lothering. The Dwarf was the head of the mercenary company: Swords of Amagarrak. It's a relativity new mercenary group. When Willis first checked it out when he found an ad near the tavern explaining, the Swords of Amagarrak "greatness". When negotiating with Druck, Willis found out that he ran a mostly clean business like helping out the locals, clearing out Darkspawn. A far cry from the more morally reprehensible mercenary companies Willis worked for in the past. In the three days Willis met Druck back in Lothering, two of them where when he was drunk in daylight, in public. The Dwarf promised Willis good pay and Willis was short on coin and struggled to find mercenary work. Reluctantly Willis accepted Durck's offer. "The first job Durck had offered Willis was to investigate a robbery at a store in the village of New hope. Apparently the store owner had a family heirloom stolen. The theft had been reported to the town guard, who passed it off to Durck at the store owners insistence. Willis raised an eyebrow when he first heard this. Why would a store owner trust a merc than the town guard? He assumed that this store owner is friends with Druck. After assigning the task, Druck told Willis he would be watching 'with great interest'. This confused the Rivaini. Was the dwarf looking to make this a long term gig? Or maybe it was just more drunken rambling. Willis sighed and began to wipe off the sweat from his brow, "fucking heat." he grumbled. Willis folded the parchment and placed it in his mini bag. "I hope the inside of the store will be cooler." He said to himself "I need to take a break from all this heat, maybe get some water too." Willis had finished the last of his water that morning, and was in the process of sweating it off now. Willis finally approached the village of New Hope. From what Durck told him, the towns main economy centered around farming, and trading its crops to the bigger cities. As it was evening, most of the villages inhabitants were asleep. There were a few guards patrolling New Hope There were a few guards patrolling the town, although they paid Willis no attention. He noticed they were equipped poorly should they run into trouble. Leather armour and basic iron swords would not help them against better armed bandits. Willis turned left at the street indicated in Durcks directions. Sure enough, the shop he was looking for was right there. A faded sign read 'The Riverdale Trader'. Below the name were the words 'Good items at a great price!'. "Looks like this is the place." Willis said to himself. As soon as Willis entered the shop he was startled by a shout. "Welcome!" the man behind the counter said, rather loudly. "I was about to close, but I can an exception for you! You look like a man who is always on the road!" Willis cleared his throat "I'm here for the job, I take it your Sven?" He certainly looked like a merchant: Middle aged with brown hair and wearing a fairly expensive tunic. Sven's eyes lit up, "Oh thank the Maker you're here! Druck is always reliable when it comes to work like this!" Willis snickered a bit and said "Sure." 'maybe I had a wrong impression of the dwarf.' he thought. Druck certainly hadn't made a good impression on Willis. Willis stepped up to the counter, and put his hands on it. "So tell me what happened?" Sven breathed heavily "Well 2 days ago I had a break in..... The only thing that was stolen was this compass." Sven handed a piece of paper to Willis. Frowning Willis analyzed it: download.gamezone.com/uploads/image/data/1131088/farcry3_2012-12-09_16-36-37-63.jpg"Looks very old." Willis said. "I have a compass of my own, it looks nowhere near like this." "That's because it's from the Ancient Age." Sven explained. "Or at least that's what my family claims. Father always told me that our family were the first people who mapped out Thedas thanks to that compass. It has been in my family for generations. It's priceless." "Therefore it's your most valuable item." Willis surmised. "Well I don't what's going to happen. My forefathers will haunt me beyond the grave if I can't get my compass back." Sven said throwing his arms in frustration. "I need some leads." Willis said. "Do you have any idea what this robber looks like? Where he might be headed?" "I did attack him and got a look at the thief." Sven said bitterly. "An Elf, with red hair and blue eyes. When I chased after him he was headed towards the forest about northwest from here." "Is there anything in the forest: Villages, caves?" "Not that I know of." Sven answered "There are some talking trees and Blighted Bears, but that's just a rumor." Willis sighed: "At least I got description. So how come the guards couldn't help you?" Sven eyes lit with anger. "Bah these "guards" are the laziest people probably in all of Thedas! The moment I report a crime to them, It takes a month for these guards to say: "Sorry there's nothing we can do." It's amazing that there's not more theft in New Hope." Willis chuckled. "I guess, but we need to talk pay." "Say no more! 20 gold coins for my compass retrieval!" Sven said "Now please hurry!" "First may I have some water for the journey?" "Of course, here's 4 water skins! Free of charge! It's a hot evening, unusual for Ferelden!" Willis turned with a nod of thanks to the shop keeper and exited the store and headed for the village gates, the pay is looking good after all! Still the prospect of talking trees sounds fascinating. He never communicated with one before and perhaps they had some information on where the thief went. From what Willis heard though, these trees were possessed by spirits. Given that he's a spirit warrior, Willis has some experience in talking to them. So it shouldn't to tough. All of a sudden Willis heard sounds of scuffling. Willis ran and saw, a couple of thugs dragging a girl by her long brown ponytail and pinning her to the ground by it. "It's time we get rid of you and him!" One of them shouted. "It's nothing personal!" "Woah!" Willis shouted. "What the hell is going on?!" One of the men, a scarred bald man turned, and stared at Willis. "This is nothing that concerns you!" He spat, as he continued to pin the woman by her ponytail. "Apparently it does concern me." Willis said angrily, gripping the hilt of his saber. "What has this woman done to you?" "Lot of things." A squishy faced thin man said. "We're gonna teach her a lesson in respect!" Willis immediately drew his sword. "Can't let you do that!" He shouted. "Let her go now or y'all getting decimated." The gang laughed, "It's six on one!" The scarred man laughed still pinning the woman down by her hair. "You ani't shit, get out now." The squishy man squinted his "Wait a minute..... That's him! I think we're supposed to gut him!" "You sure?" "Yeah, I think that's the plan to disrupt Durk's business to get back at this bitch!" The squishy faced man said turning to the woman. He drew his knife. "Kill him." The other men followed suit except for the man who had the woman pinned. Willis was confused for a bit "Must be Druck's competition." He thought. "But what did they mean: Get back at this bitch?" Setting those thoughts aside for now, he reached out to the fade to look for a spirit to connect. But he had little time as the three of the thugs descended upon him. Willis easily decapitated the first thug but he barely dodged the second and third blows from the two thugs. Willis looked from the corner from his eye and saw the bald face man and two others occupied by something: The woman perhaps? Willis was immediately stabbed in the leg by the squishy faced man. It briefly hurt, but Willis could still walk. He punched him in the face, sending him spiraling to the floor and crossed swords with the other thug. After a few parries, Willis cut him down and sliced the throat of the squishy face man as he was about to get up. After the fight, Willis turned to the woman "Impressive skills." He said "You gonna be okay? What's your name?" cmoe

i.imgur.com/WH7MLVx.png Character Name: Kailyn Race: Human Gender: Female Class: Dual Wielding Rogue Why did she agree to this job in the first place? Kailyn thought, as she climbed up a low wall with a full view of the shop door. Oh, that's right she owed Durk for how the last job went down. Was it her fault the contact in Redcliffe accidentally slipped off that bridge and broke a few lousy bones? She did tell him what would happen if she had to repeat her warning of no touching. She smiled, remembering the man’s howl of pain as he landed. She tried to tell Durk she would not be at her best. She had been on the road for weeks and had slept little. She couldn’t sit still though, that familiar itch that something bad was coming her way had pushed her to keep moving. Durk had assured her this would be easy. Easy for him, he’s gets to sit there drinking his damn ale, was he ever sober? She wondered not for the first time why she continued to work with him. Oh well, she was stuck vetting this guy now. She should just remove the third party from the equation and handle the job herself. She tilted her head, hearing footsteps approaching. Kailyn leaned forward as a tall man approached the shop. He looked the part, dark skin, dark hair and tall, “tall for even youse humans” as Durk put it. She needed a closer look but it appeared there was a tattoo on his right arm. Kailyn jumped off the perch after the man went into the shop. It was confirmation enough, she needed to get those idiot thugs in place. She soundlessly approached the ‘leader’, who upon seeing her jumped a good foot off the ground. Kailyn rolled her eyes at the pale squishy faced, thin man in front of her.” If this Willis couldn’t fight off these buffoons then Durk was losing his ‘famed intuition’.
She knew better than to hire random thugs but the job was easy – hence the money was easy. She didn’t need them to be professionals, just adequate would do. It’s not like she had many options at her disposal. “Follow me” she barked at the group. Kailyn swiped at her forehead and grumbled mostly to herself, “Shit it’s hot tonight. Kailyn shook her head trying to shake out the buzzing in her ears. She was starting to get the feeling that something was off. She hated it when that happened. She was not in the mood for more problems tonight. At first she attributed the ‘leaders’ jumpiness to inexperience, but something wasn’t adding up. The demeanor of the group had changed as they left the little village gates. If she hadn’t been so exhausted and it wasn’t so maker forsaken hot out, maybe she could think straight. Kailyn turned to speak to the ‘leader’ just as a couple of the thugs grabbed her by the hair forcing her to the ground. Well not so dumb after all, Kailyn thought reaching for the hidden blade strapped to her thigh. One of the thugs was pinning her to the ground by her ponytail. As the other reached for her hands. "It's time we get rid of you and him!" One of them shouted. "It's nothing personal!" "Woah!" Kailyn heard a muffled shout. "What the hell is going on?!" Kailyn reached her blade before the thug could pin her arms down and had his throat cut open before he could utter a word. She turned her focus on the thug pinning her hair as she heard who, she assumed to be Willis, exchange words with the 'leader'. As she put her blade through thug number two's hand he howled "you are going to pay for that bitch". It was enough of a surprise that he released his grip on her hair. She was on her knees reaching for her dual blades as the thug attempted to grab her again muttering "I wasn't supposed to kill you but now it's personnel." Kailyn felt the anger run through her like a quick shot of adrenaline. “Why must you insist of dying?” she muttered more to herself than the thug snarling at her. She pulled a smoke bomb from her inner coat pocket and was behind him sinking her blades into his back before anyone else could see where she had gone. She noticed one more thug approaching the spot she had vacated moments ago. She glanced to the side to see how the job-turned-unexpected- rescuer was faring. Guess he can hold his own after all Durk, you lousy, drunk son a bitch. She was about to call a warning just as Willis was stabbed in the leg. Luckily it didn’t seem to phase him and she turned her focus to the buffoon in front of her. She did a quick evade to give herself space and moved into stealth. Her shadow strike pierced the thugs heart. She looked up just as Willis was finishing off the last of the thugs. He turned to her saying, "Impressive skills, you gonna be okay? What's your name?" Oh great, a chatty one, “Thanks, I’m fine.” Kailyn mutters as she looked over his leg. “How about that leg?” Kailyn, aware she was being rude, softened her voice. This whole mess was her fault. She wasn't sure how much she wanted to tell him. She found herself feeling irrationally annoyed at this man for being so damn heroic, it made her feel guilty. smilesja

joruska.com/pics/var/resizes/Morrowind/2E_839_Cyrus.jpg Willis cringed a little at the woman's blunt tone. "She seems nice." He thought sarcastically. But it seemed that she realized she was rude and quickly changed her tone. “How about that leg?” She asked. Willis looked at his right leg. He felt blood trickled down his leg, Willis began to feel a dull pain from his wound. Groaning he began to rub his wound a little, "I guess I had the adrenaline rushing." Willis moaned trying to walk off the pain, but ending up limping. "Yeah gotta take care of my leg first before I go!" Willis said. "So you still haven't told me your name and why those thugs were dragging you by your hair? What did they want?" "Hey what's going on here?!" A guard approached from the small gates of the village. A bit of anger surged through Willis. "Hey!" He shouted "We were being attacked near the gates of your village! Where the fuck were you guys?" "We were handling important business." The guard said obviously lying. "It seems that you two took care of your problem." (OOC: What the guard looks like: vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/witcher/images/6/6e/Felix.png/revision/latest?cb=20160130200140 ) "Yeah and I got hurt thanks to your incompetence!" Willis replied with bitterness. "I need a medic, where's the town doctor?" "Ah he's in Tavern passed out drunk!" The guard responded. "He an'it goin to be healing anyone for a while!" "Fucking great....." Willis mumbled as the guard turned his back and headed to the village. "Well enjoy the rest of your evening!" "It's a miracle this place hasn't been raided!" Willis shouted, but the guard ignored him humming tunelessly. Willis sighed "Looks like I have to patch this wound myself." cmoe

i.imgur.com/WH7MLVx.png Character Name: Kailyn Race: Human Gender: Female Class: Dual Wielding Rogue In obvious pain, Willis limped closer. Shit, shit, double shit, guess the hero isn’t so tough after all. None of this would be happening right now if she had just ignored that stupid dwarf. Kailyn dug around her pockets, wondering where the damn healing potion she always carried had gone. Oh no here come the questions, maybe I can kick his leg and take off. Oh real mature Kailyn, she thought bitterly . “Name’s Kailyn, and if I heard the gist of the lead thug’s rantings correctly, the answer to what they wanted is a long story.” Luckily at that exact moment the ‘big brave’ village guard decided to step in. At least Willis directed his questions at the guard now. She needed more time to think. She didn’t catch everything the thugs had said but it was enough to make her think Declan was finally back. He did promise she would see him again someday. It was just like him to pull this sort of stunt. For him to know where she would be ahead of time means he has been tailing her for some time. Kailyn signed giving up her search for a potion. Willis had been exchanging heated words with the guard. Does he really expect some small-town guard to come running when he heard the fight? Where is this guy from? “First guess, the guard was watching the fight drinking the ale he reeks of”, Kailyn offered Willis unhelpfully. The guard informed Willis that the medic was indisposed for the night. She would need to grab her pack from where she stashed it earlier if she was going to help patch Willis up. Kailyn couldn’t contain her chuckle at the man’s obvious annoyance with the whole situation. “If you give me a minute to grab my pack, I have a healing potion and bandages. On second thought if you want to follow me it’s through the trees heading towards Lothering. Which I assume is where you are heading next. We can set up a small camp for the night and I will tell you what I know.” Well parts of what I know anyway, Kailyn thought as she gazed at the man. Now that she could see him up close she saw that he looked sweaty, tired, and about as annoyed as she felt. He would need the potion and bandages to keep infection from setting in. Kailyn wasn’t sure how much longer she could go without some sleep. They probably both needed food and drink as well. She wasn't carrying much but it may get them to Lothering. “So how about it, coming my way?” she asked Willis with a, hopefully, more jovial tone than it had been. smilesja

joruska.com/pics/var/resizes/Morrowind/2E_839_Cyrus.jpg Willis was starting to become a little suspicious. This woman he saved: Kailyn sounded a bit off. "On second thought if you want to follow me it’s through the trees heading towards Lothering. Which I assume is where you are heading next. We can set up a small camp for the night and I will tell you what I know." She said. "Know about what?" Willis questioned. "What are you talking about Kailyn?" As said this, Willis cautiously put his hand on his saber which he sheathed a few minutes ago. But Willis once again felt a dull ache in his leg. "You know I'll wait until reached your place." Willis said gritting his teeth. "Lead the way." (OOC: Thirty minutes later.) www.flickr.com/photos/wiklund/6375907285/lightbox/Willis gazed at the stars. The sky looked very beautiful tonight, as a child Willis would always look up at the sky gazed at the stars. Hoping one day that he can escape the Rivaini docks and live a happy successful life. Willis began to shake his head, "well at least hope was fulfilled" He thought. Willis turned to Kailyn who was searching her bag for bandages and the health potion she claimed to have. "Let's not start a fire Kailyn, it's pretty fucking hot tonight." Willis pulled up his pant leg, the wound was looked grimy and nasty. Along the way to Kailyn's hiding place, Willis used his towel to stop the bleeding. It was a mess, but it kept his mind of the pain. As Kailyn gave Willis the health potion and began applying bandages to his leg. Willis looked at her with some suspicion, there was more to her than meets the eye. "So." Willis started gulping his health potion and immediately started to feel a lot better. "Who are you really?" cmoe

i.imgur.com/WH7MLVx.png Character Name: Kailyn Race: Human Gender: Female Class: Dual Wielding Rogue Kailyn could tell he was wary of following her. She couldn’t say she blamed him. In his shoes, she would have a blade to his throat right about now. He had reached for his saber in a casual gesture, but she was fairly certain he wouldn’t hesitate to use it. Well here come the questions, she thought as Willis asked what she knew. He had a pained expression on his face. That wound must be worse than she had first assumed. He quickly changed his mind about getting answers and decided to follow her. Fortunately, they didn’t have far to walk. Willis was staring at the sky as they walked. She wondered if he was feverish already. I’m not carrying him if he trips, Kailyn thought on a sigh. They reached the site she had staked out earlier. She should consider moving further into the forest for the night. She didn’t know if there would be more surprises in store for them. Kailyn dug through her pack and handed the potion to Willis. Kailyn rolled her eyes at his snarky remark on the heat. The wound looked painful but she didn’t have much to clean it with. The potion would have to be enough for now. She had his leg bandaged quickly and she looked up to see if the pain had lessened. The question startled her, “who was she really”. If she only knew the answer herself. Resigned, Kailyn responded, “My name is Kailyn, just as I said earlier. I suppose you could say I’m a traveling freelance mercenary .” Kailyn had begun to feel that itch again. She really hated questions. Answers were never an easy thing. “I have worked with Durk for a few years. He can be reliable, even if he is drunk ninety percent of the time. I owed him a favor and for some reason that favor involved testing your abilities.” Kailyn tried to keep her annoyance out of her voice. “Durk sometimes takes on, risky work. He likes to use the same people if he can. So, he wanted to see what you were made of. I was supposed to stage an ambush, where I might add, no one would be hurt.” Unsure how he was handling any of what she was telling him Kailyn, pressed on. “I knew this was a bad idea and I’m sorry I put you in this mess. I can’t explain why the thugs turned on us. I don’t know if this is related to the stolen merchandise.” Kailyn felt her frustration boiling to the surface again. She wanted some answers as well. smilesja

joruska.com/pics/var/resizes/Morrowind/2E_839_Cyrus.jpg Willis listened to Kailyn's story. It turns out she's a freelancer merc, just like Willis. While kailyn was speaking, Willis noticed her expression faltered, she doesn't seem to like to answer questions much. But what really got Willis attention was that Kailyn was actually working for Durk. “I have worked with Durk few years. He can be reliable, even if he is drunk ninety percent of the time. I owed him a favor and for some reason that favor involved testing your abilities.” Kailyn said. Willis was stonefaced, can't say he's surprised. Many mercenary companies he worked for involved some sort of vetting. Willis was surprised that Durk immediately sent on his way rather than testing him first. “Durk sometimes takes on, risky work." Kailyn continued "He likes to use the same people if he can. So he wanted to see what you were made of. I was supposed to stage an ambush, were I might add no one would be hurt.” "So those thugs we fought were working for you?" Willis asked frowning. “I knew this was a bad idea and I’m sorry I put you in this mess." Kailyn said with desperation in her voice. "I can’t explain why the thugs turned on us. I don’t know if this is related to the merchandise that has been stolen.” Willis glared at her for a few moments, then immediately burst into laughter. "Man! I've worked some crazy merc companies, but I gotta say this is the weirdest form of vetting I've ever been in! Durk is eccentric I'll give him that. I can't hate a fellow merc for doing their job, well unless it involves unsavory things like murdering children. But it is bizarre that those guys involved me in the fold. Whatever they're dead now." Willis felt tired, his eyelids began to droop and he began yawning. " Thank you for telling the truth Kailyn. I've spent most of my life being lied to, that It became really hard to fully trust anyone." Working for Thedas underbelly of criminals, has made Willis cynical over the years. It was surprising to see a mercenary be truthful. "Kailyn." He said. "You have my word as a fellow merc, that If you run into any harm. I'll protect you. Willis followed up with a wink. Remembering what the seer told him to "always repay those who take care of you." Willis continues "We all need protecting no matter how capable we may be. That's what I've learned from the seer. Besides since we are going to together fellow mercs gotta watch our backs like you did for me when I got stabbed." Willis reached for his bag and offered Kailyn a water skin. "Take it you look thirsty and think if it of my thanks for patching me up." Willis flashed Kailyn a genuine smile. He didn't know if it was the potion talking, but he really was happy that Kailyn didn't hide the truth from him. It was not just surprising to see a truthful mercenary. It was refreshing. "Well according to the Sven the thief fled into the woods. Let's get some sleep, we got a long search tomorrow." And with that Willis drifted to sleep. cmoe

i.imgur.com/WH7MLVx.png Character Name: Kailyn Race: Human Gender: Female Class: Dual Wielding Rogue Kailyn was seriously starting to worry about Willis’s injury. He had burst out laughing leaving her unsure how to respond to the man. “But it is bizarre that those guys involved me in the fold.” Willis had said. She wasn’t sure if she should just be grateful he wouldn’t be pressing the issue further. At least it gave her time to sort through her thoughts. Kailyn wasn’t sure she liked how forgiving or trusting Willis was being. Maybe he just wants you to think that, Kailyn thought bitterly . Kailyn felt her teeth clench as Willis told her “you have my word as a fellow merc”. She regretted ever believing that line years ago. She would be damned if she was going to repeat that mistake. Irritated at his implication she needed protection, Kailyn was ready to tell the man he was on his own. A response on her tongue, Kailyn turned to look him in the eye just as he handed her a water skin. Well shit, Kailyn thought, why did he have to be so damn friendly? “Well according to Sven, the thief fled into the woods.” Willis said on a yawn. It couldn’t hurt to investigate this lead further. She wasn’t sure where Declan fit into the picture. She may need to see if the trail would lead her to him. If he was simply toying with her, she would only attract trouble for Willis. It seems more likely Declan was hired on to acquire the compass. He was a lying, shady bastard, but he was also very effective at getting what he was after. She started to bite her lip, a nervous habit she picked up as a kid. She wanted to pace, but didn’t want to give Willis any indication she was so agitated. As thoughts raced through her mind, she noticed Willis had fallen asleep. Well it looks like I’m stuck with him for a while yet, Kailyn thought annoyed. [OOC: The following morning] Kailyn awoke to the sound of someone murmuring. It had started to sound panicky by the time her brain could make sense of what was happening. Apparently Willis was having a bad dream. Shit, she wasn’t sure if she should wake him. Chances are it would either startle or embarrass him.
This was why she traveled alone. Interacting with people was not her strong suit. Well at least she had gotten some sleep, she thought with relief. Rifling through her pack, she pulled out some bread and nuts to eat. Her stomach began to growl as she wondered when she had last eaten. The dream seemed to be about his mother and it didn’t seem pleasant. Well not my business. It seemed he was waking from it anyway. “Time to rise and shine and all the fun stuff”, Kailyn announced as Willis began to stir. “I have some food if you want to eat before setting out.” Well there, see Kailyn, you can be proper and polite too, she mumbled to herself. smilesja

joruska.com/pics/var/resizes/Morrowind/2E_839_Cyrus.jpg Willis began tossing and turning. "Don't leave me Mom!" he mumbled loudly in his sleep. An old memory that Willis hoped he'd forget had surfaced once again in his dreams. "I don't like the look of you!" A five year old Willis stared at his mother teary eyed, what did mom mean by that? What did he do wrong? "Get the fuck out of here you little freak!" She shouted. Willis was confused, his mother was very mean, but not to the point where she wanted to throw him out. "Why Mommy? What did I do?" He cried. "You just a good for nothing snot nosed brat!" His mother spat, "You bought nothing but misery for me! You and your father!" "Please.... don't lea..." Willis uttered before being slapped hard by his mother. "SHUT UP! YOU LITTLE SHIT STAIN!" she shouted "You are nobody! You will bring nothing, but misery and pain to everyone!" Willis was sobbing, was mother drunk? She was always like this when she's drunk. He looked up and saw nothing but hatred in her eyes. "I should've thrown your useless hide at the sea, the day you were born!" She ranted, "I would've been better off without you You're useless!" "No! Mom I'm not useless!" Willis cried "Please! Whatever I did I'm sorry!" All he received was a punch in the face. Willis landed hard on the ground with his right eye shut tight complete with a bloody nose. "You're no one." His mother said "No one is going to love you, take care of you. Just die already!" "Please don't leave me Mom!" Willis said running to his mother's leg, but once again his mother kicked him in the stomach and in the ribs." "I'm free of you now." His mother turning her back on him. Willis, head spinning and now coughing up blood, clutched his stomach crawling after his mother. "Please Mom! Don't leave me! I'll be a better son!" His mother ignored him. "MOM!" Willis shouted gasping for breath as he did so. "I don't want to be alone......" Willis slowly woke up his eyes greeted by the sunlight. “Time to rise and shine and all the fun stuff.” He heard Kailyn's voice. Willis rubbed his eyes and stretched his arms, and saw Kailyn offering him bread and some nuts. “I have some food if you want to eat before setting out.” She said. "Yeah! I'm starving Kailyn!" Willis said happily taking his share. Willis then reached in his bag and took out some Elven bread. The bread is small, bite sized yellowish pastry. "Take it." Willis smiled offering a piece to Kailyn. "It's Elven bread, I bought it from a passing Dalish clan a week ago. It's said to be healthier than human made bread, but I'm guessing that's Dalish pride talking." Before he began to ate, Willis rubbed his bandaged leg. "I gotta say Kailyn, that health potion you gave me really helped stop the pain. You're even good at applying bandages! Thanks a lot for patching me up Kailyn!" Willis smiled at the brown haired woman. As Willis and Kailyn ate their food with gusto, Willis took out the picture of the compass from his bag. "That's the item that's stolen." Willis said handing the piece of paper to Kailyn. "A compass: Failmly heirloom presumably from the Ancient Age as claimed by Sven. According to him the thief is out in the forest somewhere. Sven did say that there may be talking trees and Blighted Bears so be prepared for anything." After they ate, Willis and Kailyn went inside the forest. Willis looked around, "how the hell are we gonna find this guy?" He asked Kailyn. The forest was huge, the trees towered over the duo and their large branches were able shield them from the suns rays. Animals such as foxes and rabbits were scurrying about eating the food that the forest had to offer. Willis saw some Deer: Three of them were relaxing near a riverbank. "No talking trees so far." Willis thought, surveying the riverbank. "It would be wise to assume that our thief would camp near a water source." Willis told Kailyn. "Unlikely he'll be heading east considering that'll lead back to New Hope......" Then Willis remembered. "Oh shit I forgot!" He said loudly maybe startling Kailyn in the process. Willis dug through his bag taking out his compass. "There!" Willis grinned showing his small golden compass to Kailyn. "This comapass has been given to me by my Captain during my days as Buccaneer as gratitude for being a big help on his ship. It's enchanted with magic meaning that it can point to a location where there's people or a location that people previously inhabited. It's not perfect as sometimes It can lead me into bandit camp which happened a few times." Willis shrugged his shoulders and checked the compass which pointed west. "I got something! Let's go Kailyn!" After about 30 minutes of walking, Willis saw black, thinning smoke. "Camp up ahead!" He whispered to Kailyn "That's probably our guy!" Willis began running, his mind already fixated on the ways he could apprehend the thief IF he was still there. By the time Willis arrived at the campsite his eyes widened. "What the fuck?!" The campsite was a mess. Strewn human corpses five of them were spread throughout the camp. Arrows were stuck on to the ground. The dirt was painted red with blood. "Shit Kailyn looks like we're not the only ones after this thief." Willis said horrified. "There gotta be clues somewhere!" Going through the ravaged campsite, Willis knelt down and took one of the arrows from the ground and examined it: The arrow is crudely made with a spiky arrowhead and nock. Willis frowned at the craftsmanship, "Kailyn looks like Darkspawn ambushed this place." He said gravely. Willis then saw footprints that looked like they were headed out of the campsite. "Possible survivors." Willis said to himself. "Maybe the thief is among them?" Head to one of the corpses, the first thing Willis observed was the man's crushed skull. "Damn that's painful." Willis thought dully as he knelt down and searched his pockets. He managed to find a piece of paper that was located in his left side. Opening it Willis read its content: It's been a great day! The Elf managed to steal the compass from the store! We'll be meeting at the designated area! Of course the knife-ear wants his pay, but I say piss on that! Gut him and take the compass! This compass is the key to our fortunes I just know it! One more thing! I need you to get gather some men to harass my lover: Kailyn! Just got word that the store owner is friends with Durk and will immediately contact him! Big chance he sends Kailyn! Please send men to mess with my sweetheart! She'll know and she'll be after me! I'd like some competition and to see the love of my life again!
-D
Willis frowned. So this "D" guy was the one who paid off those thugs and he's Kailyn's lover?! Willis got up and was about to ask Kailyn about this but then a demonic noise rang throughout the forest, sounds of footsteps descended on the camp, getting louder and louder. Willis unsheathed his weapon "we got company Kailyn!" He shouted. cmoe

i.imgur.com/WH7MLVx.png Character Name: Kailyn Race: Human Gender: Female Class: Dual Wielding Rogue Well isn’t he the chipper one in the morning, Kailyn sighed. She had a feeling the next few days were going to feel very long. She should ask how his leg is doing, that’s what normal people do, right? Kailyn mumbles her thanks for the bread Willis offered her. Mouth full, Kailyn nodded to Willis as he thanked her for the potion and bandages. Not offering anything more. Willis pulled out a picture of the compass they were looking for. Durk had only told her the stolen item was some old compass. Kailyn was still unsure how much Durk knew about the situation. It wouldn’t surprise her to know he knew more than he let on. It was his way. As Willis explained what the merchant had said about the compass, she found herself feeling more curious about it. Wait, did he just say talking trees? Is he talking about the supposed demon, infested Sylvan trees that attack those who enter their domain? Well that could be fun, Kailyn thought with a smirk. Kailyn began to clean up whatever they had as Willis prepared his own gear to leave. They then head into the forest, following what appeared to be a trail. “How the hell are we gonna to find this guy?” Willis exclaimed, sounding frustrated. Indeed, Kailyn thought as she listened to Willis talk about the mission. The forest was thick with trees and shrubbery making it difficult to determine the direction they should follow. Kailyn agreed, “I think the thief camping near water is a safe bet.” "No talking trees so far," Willis announced. Does he seriously want to see some talking trees that much, Kailyn thought in irritation. What are the odds they would run into friendly talking trees? Kailyn, deep in concentration, was startled when Willis exclaimed, “Oh, shit, I forgot!” Annoyed Kailyn grumbled “keep your voice down, we don’t know what or who is around us.” Apparently finding what he was looking for Willis showed her a compass. She liked the look of it and found herself interested in his story. Really, a magical compass, Kailyn wondered. Well magic was everywhere but she still found this little compass intriguing. She had heard stories as a child of magical compasses and other ancient artifacts. The stories had always fascinated her. The idea that they may lead to answers of what this world was like so long ago. The compass guided them West. “If that works, it’s an impressive little compass.” Kailyn offered quietly. Not really wanting to show her enthusiasm. Kailyn had noticed smoke just as Willis whispered, “Camp up ahead.” Willis rushed ahead, sighing Kailyn followed. “I guess he doesn’t believe in a stealth approach,” Kailyn murmured. As Kailyn caught up with him she noticed there was a stench in the air. The smell a reminder of a time she had come across a camp that had been ravaged by darkspawn. She had to suppress a shudder just thinking about it. There were several bloodied corpses scattered about the little camp. Sounding horrified Willis exclaimed, “Shit Kailyn looks like we’re not the only ones after this thief. There’s gotta be clues somewhere.” Kailyn responded on a sigh “I believe you are right, we need clues. I don’t; however, think this is the work of some thugs.” She walked over to Willis and looked down to see the arrowhead he was inspecting. Kailyn mummered more to herself, “Darkspawn, well shit, this puts a wrinkle in our investigation.” Kailyn was still looking through the belongings left by the dead when Willis pointed out footprints leading away from the camp. “Survivors are possible I suppose but not likely unless they ran before the attack started” Kailyn thought out loud. She continued her search of the camp looking for either clues, or possibly, the compass itself. Knowing, without a doubt, life would not make things that easy for her. None of the bodies were Declan. Not that she expected him to be here. Declan prefers to pull the strings, not get his hands dirty, she thought bitterly. Willis exclaimed, “Damn that looks painful." Kailyn went over to Willis to see what he had found. Well that did look painful, “maker that’s disgusting,” Kailyn tried not to stare too closely at the crushed skull. Willis was unfolding a note he found on the dead body. Kailyn slid in closer to Willis, unable to make out the words. This must be a clue, Kailyn thought. Curious, Kailyn leaned in to read the note. "I'd like some competition and to see the love of my life again!" Kailyn felt her blood run cold. Anger and fear hitting her all at once. Willis was saying something but it was garbled. Like he was underwater or she was. It’s dark out, Declan is dragging her by the hand laughing. “Hurry” he whispers “or they will catch us.” Kailyn laughs, knowing he wouldn’t have planned the job if he was worried about being caught. Suddenly he is pushing her against the alley wall. One hand is running up her arm, the other hand gripping her hip. Kailyn shivers, knowing it’s not from the cold. He always has this effect on her. Declan smirks, leaning in and whispers “My love”.
Kailyn felt that buzzing in her head. Coming back to herself, Kailyn swore, “Shit, shit, shit, focus Kailyn.” She shook her head, anything to clear out the unwelcome memories. “We got company Kailyn,” Willis had shouted. Kailyn used the anger to focus and pulled out her blades. “Looks like the darkspawn were not done here after all.” Kailyn muttered in frustration. For creatures that make so much noise and smell like death, they are quite stealthy. Kailyn dropped caltrops to cover her rear. She spun around trying to locate which direction the darkspawn would come from. Kailyn turned back just in time to see one sneaky little Genlock had appeared before her. Luckily the trap slowed him and she had twin blades to his chest before he could touch her. At that moment, several darkspawn appeared in the clearing. smilesja

joruska.com/pics/var/resizes/Morrowind/2E_839_Cyrus.jpg (OOC: Listen to this while Willis and Kailyn fight the Darkspawn!: Willis gripped his saber, his eyes darting around trying to find where the demonic voice was coming from. Willis stomach churned, he gritted his teeth out of fear and began sweating profusely. He had a bad feeling about this, but he also sensed something a familiar ally somewhere in the forest coming to his rescue..... Willis was a bit confused by this that he let his guard down only to get pushed in the back. "Gah!" Willis screamed as he struggled against wrinkly faced creature. It's small, yellow, beady eyes fixated on Willis. Its misshapen mouth trying to bite at the rivaini's neck, specks of drool went all over his face. Willis eyes widened with fear, as he managed fend off the creature with the edge of his saber. With all of his strength, Willis pushed the monster off of him and got up and faced it. It was Genlock a Darkspawn, Willis immediately decapitated it. Just then more Darkspawn: A hurlock a humanoid Darkspawn with a glasglow smile and more Genlocks came pouring out. "Stick together Kailyn! Don't get separated!" Willis barked as he let the Darkspawn come to him. Willis had a few skirmishes with the Darkspawn in the past, he specifically remembered when he was part of a group escorting a caravan that they were ambushed by a small squad of Darkspawn. Willis and the group killed them all, but suffered one casaulty, the man was infected by the taint. He spent the next three days screaming in agony before finally being down. "The taint." He remembered one of his co workers say. "It was either death or become one of them." That was what made Willis so fearful of the Darkspawn, not for their appearance or unrelenting nature but the taint that they carry. It ensured that no matter what happened that the Darkspawn would always emerge victorious. Willis saw the Hurlock charge towards him with an Darkspawn battle axe laughing maniacally while he did it. Willis managed to dodge the blow and the Hurlock's weapon sank deep into the ground. The creature struggled to pull it out from the dirt and Wilis took advantage by slicing it in its achilles tendon. The Hurlock screamed in pain as Willis quickly turned his attention to the three Genlocks that were trying to surround him. They all at once and Willis managed to slice first Hurlock, but the second and third one managed to tackle him to the ground. Willis rolled with the Genlocks, getting up quickly to kick the Genlock in the face. He slashed at the second Genlock in the face with his saber. The Genlock face sprayed like grape jelly as it fell down dead. Willis then walked towards the battle ax that was still stuck into the ground, but not before stabbing the wounded Hurlock in the skull. With his saber in one hand and the Darkspawn battle ax in the other. Willis charged towards the Darkspawn that just arrived. He sliced and diced through them all, Hurlock and Genlock alike and ended up putting the battle axe into the skull of the Hurlock. Fatigue taking over Willis body he fell back to Kailyn's position just to see even more Darkspawn show up, surrounding the pair. The Darkspawn were roaring with triumphant laughter, as they slowly advanced on Willis and Kailyn. Willis heart was racing, "It looks like now is the time" He thought. Turning to Kailyn Willis said: "Stay behind me Kailyn, I got this." and he began to concentrate in an effort to enter the fade. However, Willis felt that familiar presence again. He heard stomping and saw three Hurlocks all get stomped by a...... tree. Willis eyes widened as a huge tree that towered around 30 feet swooped a bunch of Darkspawn and threw them hard against an oak tree, splattering their body parts all over it. The Darkspawn were cowering in fear and began to take a few steps back. The tree grabbed a Hurlock Alpha and tore it two. That the rest to retreat. The tree than turned its attention to Willis and Kailyn. Willis looked it in the eye in awe, the spirit that inhabited that tree he knows that spirit. "I think I recognize you!" Willis said breathlessly. "Willis Reede, I thought I would never see you again." The tree replied its voice booming throughout the forest. "I sense that you and your companion seek answers to what happened this place." The tree said. cmoe

Durk was in a foul mood. First the last job went bad. Kailyn's work, while usually stellar, was not up to par, and they lost the shipment. It wasn't entirely her fault, but she was contrite enough to agree to travel to New Hope to vet a potential recruit. The young Rivaini lad was eager and professional, if seemingly a bit green to Durk's practiced eye. Will something. Oh right, Willis. Willis Reede. He had responded to Rolf's ad, and Durk poured on the act, spend a few days burping ale breath on the boy and asking how he felt about more shady work. He didnt take the bait, to his credit. Second, and worse, reports came back from New Hope to say the two had been betrayed, by someone. Durk was sure they were fine. Kailyn would keep the new kid out of trouble, but he hated being in the dark. He shook his head and payed attention to the matter at hand. Right, act the loud mouthed drunk. He staggerd a bit, weaving back and forth, much to the amusement of the few passers by on the street. Lothering, which still suffering from the blighted lands surrounding it, was at least beginning to bustle. The tavern was always a a good place to scout out new talent, or spy on the competition. He staggered throught he door, and into the tavern. Taking a seat and waving the waitress Ilsa over, he ordered a couple of mugs, with a wink. She winked back and nodded. Ilsa was a good sort, he suspected she was aware he wasnt as drunk as he seemed. He was honestly surprised the humans could get drunk at all on the piss-water the surfacers called ale. As it was, he brfely felt a buzz after a few drinks. Maybe he could score a shipment of good Orzammar Deep Mushroom ale, but this would do for now. Ilsa set the mugs down in front of him, He grabbed one and grinned, shouting Cheers! to the tavern patrons, most of who ignored him. As he 'drunkedly' looked around, h spotted a couple of suspicious characters in a corner. They looked like trouble, possible competition. He staggered across the tavern, greeting regulars herecognised, some of whom looked away, embarassed, while a few actually greeted him back cheerfully. As he staggered over, finally, to the two mercs, they just glared at him, in the face of his winning smile. Can't please some people. he wobbled away, waving his hand at them, and made his way to a table nearby, where he collapsed, and pretended to be passed out. "Blighted drunk." he heard one say. "He's passed out drunk, ignore him" the other said. "Look, you need to let this go. We're after the treasure, not your ex lover." "I know, I know. It's just that I'm sure Kailyn is after the treasure too. Why else would she and that Rivaini be looking for the compass?" "Maybe so, but we've got it now, they are off on a wild goose chase, and probably eaten by those darkspawn we escaped. The elf is dead, nothing to lead it back to you." "I wouldn't be so sure. He pulled off the robbery successfully. He might have survived. If Kailyn finds him..." Durk groaned, lifted his head and took a swig of ale, then put his head down, spitting it out on his shirt. He listened intently. jackpot. These were the thieves. The talk of treasure perked up his ears., figuratively. he had thought it a simple family heirloom, but it seems it was more complicated than he had understood. He didn't like the sound of the darkspawn though. "Listen Declan, the girl is gone, and doesn't want you back, we are free and clear. Once we get the third piece we can get past that blighted doorway and into the vault. Where is it anyway?" "I'm working on that. Those blasted thugs we paid failed in taking those two out. I want to finish them first." Durk listened with interest. If they could find the third piece first, they could arrange a deal, or lead this fellow into a trap. Durk liked Kailyn, as an employee and a friend. This fool wasn't going to get away with messing with her. He continued to listen to them, and made plans to tail them should he have a chance, when they left.

i.imgur.com/WH7MLVx.png Character Name: Kailyn Race: Human Gender: Female Class: Dual Wielding Rogue “Stick together Kailyn! Don’t get separated!” Willis had uttered. “Got it” Kailyn called back to Willis. As Willis was finishing off the genlock who had taken him by surprise, Kailyn dropped into stealth. While Willis faced the group head on, Kailyn worked better in the shadows. She picked her first target, a hurlock to the left of the group. Kailyn moved silently behind the creature, quickly slicing its throat and falling back to the shadows. Kailyn glanced to Willis, he had been dragged down by three genlocks. She needed to help him but there was a hurlock blocking her path. From stealth, Kailyn took down the hurlock with a shadow strike through the creature’s eye. As she was about to aid Willis, more darkspawn entered the camp. She threw a smoke bomb at the newly arrived creatures. She needed to fall back to a better position. She quick evaded to some shrubbery, hoping the smoke covered her trail. She had several fire bombs in her satchel. She needed to land it just right without hitting Willis. Perfect, Kailyn thought as Willis rolled away from her target. Kailyn threw two bombs, setting several genlocks and one hurlock on fire. The creatures were howling in pain. Good, Kailyn thought angrily, if I’m going down, I hope I take you bastards with me.Using the confusion of the fire, Kailyn moved in to take out the Hurlock with a twin fangs strike to the chest. She dove to the side and entered stealth, using her advantage she took out a genlock with a dealthblow. Feeling weariness in her muscles, Kailyn sent a prayer to the maker. Odd, she hasn’t done that since she was a child. Kailyn parried a blow from a blunt axe at the last minute. Evading to the rear, Kailyn, dove in for a flank attack. The Genlock, caught off guard tumbled to the ground. Sensing movement to her side Kailyn lashed out with spinning blades, taking down two more Genlock. “Is there no end to them”, Kailyn shouted to Willis in frustration. Kailyn’s hands were sweaty, making her grip on her blades falter. Willis moved to her position. Kailyn could see his energy was wavering as was hers. With a look of resignation on his face, Willis motioned her to move, saying, “Stay behind me Kailyn, I got this”. More darkspawn entered the camp. “What are you talking about”, Kailyn shouted. E xhaustion has made the man go mad. Kailyn was about to yell again, or slap him, something – he was clearly losing it. Maker, was that an Alpha Hurlock, Kailyn thought miserably. Shit, sorry Willis, I’m not sure either of us are making it out of here today, thought Kailyn resigned. Loud stomping caught Kailyn’s attention. “Shit, if that’s an Ogre we are done for”, Kailyn said more to herself. She had a few more smoke bombs, maybe they could run, Kailyn thought in desperation. Just then a very large Oak tree came crashing into the clearing. It was decimating the Darkspawn, blood splattering everywhere. The remaining Darkspawn begin to retreat, skittering into the bushes from where they came. Kailyn’s head was spinning as she tried to puzzle together what had just happened. Maybe she had fallen and lost consciousness and none of this was real. A huge maker forsaken tree did not just save them Kailyn thought almost frantic. “I think I recognize you” Willis whispered. “Willis Reede, I thought I would never see you again” boomed the tree. "Said the talking tree. Where have I heard that joke before?" Kailyn said aloud. "I sense that you and your companion seek answers to what happened in this place," the tree pronounced “What, just – how did-why would you- What!”, Kailyn exclaimed. smilesja

joruska.com/pics/var/resizes/Morrowind/2E_839_Cyrus.jpg Willis remembered the first spirit who lent him its power. It was during one of the grueling training regiments by the seeker. Willis won the coin game and the Seer spent 3 months making sure he was physically and mentally ready to be a Spirit Warrior. That meant running 5 miles everyday, to meditating 3-6 hours a day. It was exhausting and Willis was ready to quit but the power that a Spirit Warrior possesses was too tantalizing to give up on. Having that kind of power meant more money to Willis so he shouldered on and endured the grueling training. At long last, the Seer would explain to Willis the secrets of entering the fade and asking a spirit for its powers in exchange for a glimpse of the world. Willis focused and just as he was about to slip into the fade he would fail due to fear of what the fade looked like. Willis never been in the fade, he's stories of mages going in there and was tempted by demons what if Willis entered the fade and was tempted by a demon? He doesn't have any magical ability to combat them! "Breathe." The seer told a hyperventilating Willis. "Just breathe." Willis did as he was told. "Focus." Willis closed his eyes and entered the fade. It was a labyrinth of floating rocks and stairs that lead to nowhere and he saw small orbs of light floating aimlessly around him. Willis then saw a black city floating in the sky. According to the Chantry, that's where the golden city was the seat of The Maker. "What do you see Willis?" The seers voice echoed in the fade. Fear rushed through Willis' body. "I see floating rocks and these orbs of light! I also see the Black City! It's huge!" Just then the orbs of light came together and transformed into a human like appearance. "I am a spirit of Wisdom." It said a calm voice. Gulping Willis asked the spirit "Spirit if you lend me your energy, I can give you glimpse of the world beyond the fade." The spirit of Wisdom nodded and touched Willis' hand. He felt a wave energy taking over his body, Willis felt stronger and faster than ever before. He found himself back in the physical world and the first thing he saw was the Seer's smile. Willis took a look into the mirror he was glowing. Blue cracks were all over his skin and eyes glowed light blue as well. "This world is mundane, yet fascinating." the voice of Wisdom spoke inside his head. The voice startled Willis. Was he possessed? "Do not fear human. I do not control you." The spirit said reassuredly. "But this world..... I would like to become your partner. I want to see the world beyond the fade." "Now the real training begins." The Seer said still smiling. That was three years ago and after the training, the Spirit of Wisdom was often called upon by Willis. It left him 2 years ago, saying that he wanted to leave the fade after seeing only glimpses through Willis' eyes. It looked like it found a way. "What happened to you Wisdom?" Willis asked still in awe to see his friend again. "After I left, I looked for something to possess. To live in the world beyond the fade." The Spirit explained. "One day I found the dark creatures trying cut down a Tree. I ended up possessing it and killed the dark creatures. I took a look at the beauty of this forest and became its guardian. Now I roam around the place protecting it from the dark creatures." "I've sensed your presence." Willis remarked. "I didn't know I had that ability!" "And I've sensed yours Willis." Wisdom said happily. "It seems a bond has formed between us to the point where we can sense each other." "What the power of friendship?" Willis smirked. Wisdom did not seem to be paying attention to Willis but rather than Kailyn. "So who's this Willis? Your companion?" "Oh that's Kailyn, my good friend." Willis grinned sheepishly "Kailyn this is Wisdom the ummmm tree!" Wisdom nodded "Any friend of Willis is a friend of mine. It's nice to meet you Kailyn." "Listen Wisdom." Willis said "Kailyn and I are here on important business regrading this camp. Do you have any idea what happened here?" "Yes I do." Wisdom replied pacing around the camp. The ground shook a little it walked. "Last night while I was patrolling the forest, there was an elf with an unusual item. I hid among st the tall trees to get a good look." "The compass?!" Willis exclaimed "That's what we're after! The elf stole a compass and we're trying to get it back!" Wisdom nodded "I believe that's the item he had, the elf set a camp and was waiting for some. Then came a man accompanied with 10 other men, and the elf talked to him. He was dark skinned and had a huge scar on his face." "Probably D." Willis surmised. "The elf gave the man the compass you seek and the man had ring and fit it into the compass. The compass began to glow and I sensed a magical energy radiating from it." "What the fuck?" Willis said in disbelief "The compass has magical properties. Looks like it's more than a family heirloom." "There was bickering as well. The Elf was furious about something, I couldn't make out his words. The dark skinned man laughed and had ordered his men to kill the elf. Then there was a roar, the dark creatures had ambushed the group. Five men were brutally murdered while the dark skinned man retreated. The creatures captured the Elf and dragged him away." Willis stroked his chin. "Do you know where they took the Elf?" Wisdom pointed northeast. "In the cave go straight from here and you'll find it. I would go and rescue him, but there are many Darkspawn that lurk in there powerful ones." "Kailyn and I are capable." Willis said. "We'll go in get the Elf and get back." Wisdom chuckled "I know you well Willis. Be strong and may the spirits of the fade lend you energy young warrior." Willis bowed. "Thank you Wisdom, we'll go in peace good luck." He turned to Kailyn. "Let's go." He said. (OOC: 25 minutes later.) Willis and Kailyn arrived at the cave, It was dark and foreboding with tons of stalagmites. "Think he's still alive Kailyn?" Willis asked. Willis took out his compass and it pointed north. "Looks like he may live Kailyn." He smiled just as a humongous roar echoed through the cave startling him. "Heh! I'm scared as hell Kailyn! More fucking Darkspawn!" Willis said nervously. "It's a good thing I have you around, I have a feeling you and I will make a great team!" Willis said happily. "You know what I do when I'm nervous Kailyn?" Willis sighed Sing a song. There was a song I've heard when I was a buccaneer It was from drunk sailors, but I found it so funny that I sing to ease my nerves! Want to hear it?" Not even bothering to hear Kayns response Willis began preparing himself "Okay here it goes!" Willis cleared his throat "flyin, flyin flying in the sky! Cliff Racer flyin so high in the sky!" His nerves calmed Willis smiled at Kailyn "Let's do this quietly. Time to rescue a thief!" (OOC: The song Willis sang to Kailyn! XD : cmoe

i.imgur.com/WH7MLVx.png Character Name: Kailyn Race: Human Gender: Female Class: Dual Wielding Rogue Great Kailyn thought, the tree was possessed by a spirit. Kailyn listened as Willis and the tree, apparently a spirit of wisdom, spoke. The tree was explaining how he came to be in the forest. Tree and Willis discussed how they can seemingly sense each other. Why am I not surprised these two share a telepathic connection, Kailyn wondered. At this point Kailyn was willing to cut and run and let Willis handle the job by himself. She was tired, angry, and unsure of how much more she could handle. Nothing was making sense anymore. “Oh, that’s Kailyn, my good friend”, Willis had said. What, good friend? I had him almost killed by thugs. I kept things from him and I’ve barely spoken to him. We are friends now? Kailyn thought nonplussed. “What?” Kailyn grumbled. Wisdom, sounding suspiciously friendly, greeted her, “Any friend of Willis is a friend of mine. It’s nice to meet you Kailyn.” “Oh, good to meet you too talking tree, um or Wisdom? Thanks for the timely rescue.” Kailyn said in what she hoped was her friendly voice. Did she have a friendly voice, she pondered. Biting her lip to keep her thoughts to herself, Kailyn listened quietly as Tree explained what had happened. Tree told them he had seen an Elf with a magical item. Tree then explained how someone matching Declan’s description had met with the Elf. Tree was pacing and the ground tremored with his movement. Kailyn began to pace as well. She needed to work out the frustration she was feeling. So, Declan had been here, for reasons Kailyn tried to suppress, her heart beat faster. Five years later and Declan still caused a crack in her emotional armour. Focus Kailyn, she thought annoyed, what were they talking about, it could be important. Declan had hired the elf to steal the compass. “The man had a ring and fit it into the compass. The compass began to glow,” Tree explained. “So, Declan must have known what the compass was capable of, curious.” Kailyn said aloud. “I wonder what they fought over. Odd, Declan usually works with people he knows.” Declan had escaped the darkspawn, this did not surprise Kailyn. He was a sneaky, clever bastard and almost her equal in speed and agility. The thief was taken by the darkspawn. This was all so curious. “Why would darkspawn take the Elf alive? “Kailyn asked. "Maybe so they can turn him slave." Willis answered "I've heard Darkspawn do that sort of thing.” “That’s … barbaric, death would be preferable.” Kailyn replied. The tree pointed Willis and Kailyn in the direction the Elf had been dragged; but warned them of danger. “Kailyn and I are capable” Willis had said. Kailyn thought, Yes, we’re practically wardens now. Why not go into a darkspawn infested cave? Stop ranting to yourself Kailyn, not helping, Kailyn scolded. “Yea thanks again for the save,” Kailyn told Tree as they departed. “This is more than I signed up for. We need to track down Durk in Lothering. He may have useful information. I don’t understand how Declan can know so much about an ancient magical compass.” Kailyn said on a sigh as her and Willis followed a trail of broken branches and crushed shrubbery. Kailyn added as an afterthought, “I need to restock supplies, the dance with the darkspawn depleted my reserves.” Willis nodded "Sounds like a plan Kailyn! Wait a minute Kailyn, Delcan? All right we both read that same letter at the camp. So, Declan is your lover huh? What more do you know about him?" Willis asked looking unsettled. Drawing in a deep breath, Kailyn answered, “I know Declan is sneaky, clever, and not to be trusted. It’s been years so I don’t know him very well anymore, and I’m not sure I ever knew him. What I can tell you is he is rogue, with skills similar to mine. He ran his own mercenary company the last I knew. He never seemed overtly interested in artifacts, or magic for that matter. If I still know him, his plan for the compass involves gold, and a lot of it. ” Just then a dark cave came into view. “Think he’s still alive?” Willis had asked. Kailyn just shrugged at him. She had no idea what darkspawn would do with a captive. Willis used his compass to confirm the Elf was alive in the cave. Willis looked pleased to see the thief lived. Kailyn was about to tell him it doesn’t mean the Elf was alone. Suddenly a loud roar could be heard coming from the cave. "Heh! I'm scared as hell Kailyn! More fucking Darkspawn!" Willis said nervously. "It's a good thing I have you around, I have a feeling you and I will make a great team!" Willis said happily. “Wait, what? We are not a team. I am not a team up kind of gal.” Kailyn uttered. Willis grinned "I dunno, Kailyn you saved my ass a couple of times during that fight! So far we compliment each other pretty well!" Kailyn rolled her eyes at Willis, if she wasn’t mistaken he grinned even more. “That’s just in battle, life is less complicated with blades.” Kailyn murmured. "You know what I do when I'm nervous Kailyn? Sing a song.” What, Kailyn thought. Kailyn was unsure how to respond to that so she said nothing. There is a cave with maker knows what in it. They must try and reach the thief before it was too late, Kailyn thought frustrated.
Finished with his song, Willis turned to Kailyn saying "Let's do this quietly. Time to rescue a thief!"
“I’m a rogue, quiet and stealthy is what I do. Do you think you can be quiet?” Kailyn asked. “So far the tree seemed more stealthy”, Kaiylin mumbled.

The leader, Declan, told his henchman that they would go to Denerim for the final piece of their artifact. That was a weeks journey at least, but Durks calculation. He'd like to follow them, but he was more concerned about Kailyn and the new kid. Despite Declan's threat to Kailyn, he seemed to still have feelings for her. Maybe they could use that. After Declan and his henchman left the tavern, Durk made a show of staggering out, bumping a few tables and apologising drunkedly. Once outside, he quietly followed the thugs down the darkening streets. They appeared to be returning to their camp, so he was confident he had enough time to go investigate what happened to his employees. They had just left that day, so probably had just reached New Hope. He should be able to catch up. Returning to his office, He told Rolf the story, and askd him to tail the group of bandits. Rolf headed out to do that, while Durk prepared for travel. Finally packed up, he got on his horse and rode out of Lothering. New Hope was a few hours away, so he could follow the trail from there. His horse was fast, taking him to New Hope quickly. He discovered that he was only a few hours behind the pair, from the local guards. Apparently they had a fight just ouotside of with some thugs. Declan said something about that. Paid off the thugs to attack Kailyn. Durk shook his head. Why didn't the coward do his own dirty work? Remounting his horse, he galloped out of town into the woods that the pair had been heading. Finally he reached a camp stewn with bodies. Dismounting he checked who the dead were. He didn't see Kailyn or Willis, thank the Maker, but the camp was strewn with darkspawn bodies, and a few of Declan's men, presumably. "Durgen'len" Durk jumped, startled. Looking around he didnt see any Dalish. "Who's there?" "Me, I'm a spirit tree. If you are looking for my friend Willis and his companion, they entered a cave nearby. " Durk looked up at the tree disbelievingly. "Uh, thanks.." he said. Sure enough, tracks led off in the direction the tree indicated. He was not sure why he needed a tree to tell him that, but he thanked it anyway. "Make haste, short one, More of these dark ones may be in the cave." The tree called after him. Durk waved as he rode off. He soon reached the cave by following the clearly marked trail. Dismounting he walked to the entrance and peered inside. No sound or light emanating from the cave. he lit a torch and headed in.

joruska.com/pics/var/resizes/Morrowind/2E_839_Cyrus.jpg (OOC: Part one of the collab) "Sssessh no need to be a smartass Kailyn." Willis frowned. "I've done some stealth work when I was a kid." Looking at his compass, the needle pointed north. "Come on partner." "We're not partners," Kailyn muttered. She entered the cave soundlessly listening for further signs of life. "Why don't I hear the darkspawn anymore," Kailyn whispered. Willis attempted to look through the dark, dripping cave. The cave was damp and there were bones: human and animal alike near his feet. However, there were no signs of Darkspawn. "Strange." Willis whispered, "I could've sworn that I saw Darkspawn retreat to the direction of the cave." Willis gulped "what is going on in this cave? "It's best to be cautious though Kailyn." Willis said as he took a step in the cave trying to avoid stepping on the bones. "So, if I can't call you partner, what the fuck are we then?" "Two strangers caught in a mess, nothing more." replied Kailyn. "The noises had been coming from this cave. I fear we have lost the advantage of surprise." Kailyn was trying to avoid thinking about what she was stepping on, or who for that matter. The cave walls seemed to be coated in what appeared to be a sticky substance. It was hard to tell in the dark, and she was not about to touch it, if she could help it. Kailyn was starting to feel like she was being watched. "If we lost the advantage of surprise, why didn't they attack us?" Willis whispered as the compass led them deeper in to the cave. "Whatever is going on in here is not something I want any part of. How do we know the Elf isn't being turned into a creature at this moment?" Kailyn asked. "All we have is what the compass is telling me." Willis answered. "It's not perfect, but someone is alive down there." "Can they do that, turn them into creatures immediately? That's a thing, right." Kailyn mumbled "Yeah via the taint you know the disease Darkspawn carry?" Willis rolled his eyes. Has Kailyn heard the stories of the Darkspawn. "I've..... unfortunately seen a man get infected by it. He was in agony for three days; his skin was ghostly pale and he had dark circles around his eyes." Willis was deep in thought until he heard a noise, a growl. Willis looked up and saw a Hurlock carrying a torch seemingly communicating with another Hurlock. "Get down Kailyn!" Willis whispered hoarsely. “I see it, I’m not blind. Do you speak darkspawn? It would be nice to know what they are saying." Kailyn offered sarcastically. Of course I know what the taint does, Maker I need a drink. Kailyn thought in irritation. Kailyn looked to Willis and said, "It looks like they are moving further in the cave, shall we follow the stinky bastards?" She started to quietly follow the creatures without waiting for an answer. "Wait what?!" Willis immediately grabbed Kailyn's shoulder. "Are you fucking stupid?!" Willis whispered. "We need to follow the compass, not the Darkspawn!" As he said this, the Compass pointed Northwest away from the Darkspawn. "Listen Kailyn!" Willis growled. "I know you may find me annoying. But you're gonna need my help! Unless of course you want to kill yourself! If that's the case be my guest!" "Touch me again and we will see who needs help more." Kailyn replied coldly. "I was just trying to do some scouting. It would help to know how many of those tainted creatures there are. But a second ambush in one day sounds good as well. Be my guest, lead the way." Kailyn offered. She was so exhausted and done with the whole maker forsaken day. Fighting with Willis was not going to help anything. Kailyn swiped at the sweat on her forehead and began heading in the direction Willis had pointed. "Yeah! Well ask yourself this: Why the fuck haven't they ambushed us yet?" Willis said with anger in his voice. When he pulled Kailyn away, Willis noticed the Darkspawn appeared to be running from something. "This is getting weird Kailyn those two Darkspawn were running from something." Willis said. "Looks like there's something in this cave." Willis continued following the compass which led them deeper in the cave. The duo reached what appeared to be a cave clearing. There were torches lit, presumably, by the Darkspawn, but there were also mangled Darkspawn corpses everywhere. To the left of them was a big hole and inside of it was spider web. "It looks like we know what happened to them." Willis said heart beating loudly as he heard a scuttling sound in the shadows. I don’t see the Elf,” Kailyn observed, as they entered the next room. Just then, several very large spiders came scurrying out of the hole. “Shit, shit, I hate spiders, and those things are huge, just shit.” Kailyn uttered as she dropped a smoke bomb and rolled to her left. She cut through one of the creature’s legs. Losing its balance, the spider dropped to its stomach. Kailyn drove both blades into the center of the spider, underestimating the strength of the spider’s shell. She drove her blades into the spider a second time with greater force. The spider appeared dead. She heard Willis attacking another spider to her right. Sparing no time to check on him, she dove to her left just as a spider shot out a web. Shit, that was close. Kailyn thought in annoyance. Using the shadows for cover, Kailyn waited for the spider to come into range. When the spider was close enough Kailyn jumped landing on the spider with a flip. She then stabbed the spider in its creepy eyes. Pulling her blades out quickly, she struck again. Kailyn jumped off the spider dragging her blades through the spider’s head. She looked to Willis, and realized he was down and not moving. Looking around, Kailyn wondered how she could be in this situation with no fire bombs. She had a freeze bomb. She would have to use it wisely. “Use your anger to focus Kailyn, you need a plan.” Kailyn whispered. It was all a blur, one moment Willis saw a bunch of giant Spiders crawling out of the hole the next moment he was attempting to fight them off. Then Willis felt a sharp, stinging pain in his abdomen. He looked down and saw that one of the Spiders hit Willis with one of its stingers. Blood came pouring out from the wound and Willis felt woozy his legs were like jelly. Bile came from his throat Willis spit it out he fell down face first on to the floor. But at the last moment Willis used what little energy he had left to enter the fade. Once inside he struck a deal with a wondering spirit and it lent him its power. Willis began to glow, his wounds immediately started to heal. He slowly got up, his eyes glowing blue and blue cracks formed all over his skin. Willis felt stronger and faster. The Giant Spiders whom Willis was engaging surrounded him. They tried to attack at once, but in a split second they were killed by a single stroke by Willis' blade. Three more Spiders came pouring out from the hole and Willis took care of them all slicing through them with liquid precision. After wards he relinquished the spirit's power and exhaustion took over his entire body. Willis fell down on one knee and watched Kailyn finish off the Spiders on her side. "Man I feel like a horse kicked me in the stomach." He smiled wearily. cmoe

Durk hated caves. Sure, it was where he grew up, but at least Orzammar was mostly dry. And even the deep rods didn't smell this bad. The only noise was moisture dripping from the walls. A poorly placed boot sent somethign skittering across the cavern floor. Looking down he aw it was some sort of bone. [lovely] No sign of darkspawn though. Clear footsteps could be seen in the muddy ground, among the ever more frequent bones that littered the place. Recent footsteps. Kailyn and Willis were likely down here. His torch light flickered on the craggy walls, limestone pillars forming white columns among the darker stone. And something else. Webbing? Oh great. he mumbled to himself. Why did it have to be spiders. He passed one unfortunate darkspawn strung up in a cocoon, and not for the first time, wondered if he was going in the right direction. No darkspawn, but curiously few spiders either, or mercenaries. As he took another step he heard a hiss and scratching behind him. Oh great. Drawing his sword, he spun around and thrust his torch in the eye of a giant spider. it backed off in pain, if these things felt pain, giving him a chance to strike with his sword. He lopped off one leg with a crippling blow, before the creature leapt on him attempting to knock him over. For a brief moment, its fangs were just above his face, dripping ooze onto his beard. With an angry growl he put the flaming brand in his off hand into its mouth, and kicked it off him. It rolled over on its back, momentarily helpless, so he took the advantage and stabbed it in its gut. hard. It attempted to roll over, feebly, so he poked it again in its head. Satisfied that it was killed, he wiped his blade on its body, and headed deeper into the cave. Rounding another corner, he came cross a large dimly lit cavern, and his two mercenaries. At least he assumed it was the lad. Kailyn was clearly visible, dispatching a spider, but the other human was lit up, cracks across his skin glowed in the dim light as he moved from one spider to another, killing them with ease. Shortly the light dimmed and Durk could see Willis standing there, exhausted. The room was littered with spider bodies, and not a few darkspawn and other creatures including humans, elves and dwarves. Webbing coated the walls, but there appeared to be no more spiders inhabiting the place. "Ha!" he called, grinning. "Good work, you two! Whatever possessed you to run head long into a spider cave?" He looked Willis up and down. "And was it the ale, or were you glowing a minute ago?" Kailyn back flipped off of the frozen spider she had just killed. She turned to Durk with a smirk and a wink and said, "you missed all the fun you old drunk. How the hell did you find us? Willis was glowing? You drink too much!" Durk chuckled at Kailyn. "That's your opinion!" Willis, sounding exhausted, gave Kailyn a look and said snarkily, "Wow you mean you didn't notice me glowing Kailyn? Your powers of observation are astounding." Turning to Durk, Willis smiled. "You're a little late for your heroics boss. That ability I just used is because I'm a Spirit Warrior." Durk grunted. "You'll have to explain that to me sometime. For now, what are we doing in here exactly?" Just then a muffled yell echoed from the back of the cavern. "Help!" "I'll have to explain my power later." Willis said "That sound like the thief!" He ran inside the tunnel, followed by Durk and Kailyn. Webbing filled the entire room from top to bottom. Spider eggs littered the floor, crunching under their feet. Turning the corner, they saw a red headed Elf trapped in webbing. "Help me!" He cried out. Durk crossed his arms and looked at Kailyn. "Well, will you look at that, all trussed up like a Satinalia gift." Willis smirked, "Well look at this guys, our thief tangled in a web." "What!" The thief cried. "I-I don't know what you're talking about?!" "Enough bullshit." Willis said, still smiling. "You stole a compass from Sven for Declan. We ain't letting you down without answers!" "Oh shit." The elf grumbled. "I get captured by Darkspawn, only for them to killed by Giant Spiders. Then I got caught and wrapped up by the spiders, and was about to be their food. And looks like now I have to deal with a Rivani, a Dwarf and Declan's lover. What a fucking day..... Ask your questions then cut me down!" Durk looked at Kailyn again. "Lover, huh? I think I met him briefly in Lothering. I may have a lead if Rolf did his job. " Kailyn shook her head and replied softly, as if to herself, "He's not my lover, whatever it was, happened five years ago." Raising her voice, Kaily looked to Durk with a smile and said "you know Rolf has something by now, he always does his job. Unlike a drunk dwarf I know." Durk smirked at her and said "Aye, what would I do without him." Looking at Willis, he added "Alright Rivaini, he's all yours." [OOC Tagging smilesja ]

joruska.com/pics/var/resizes/Morrowind/2E_839_Cyrus.jpg Willis put his hands behind his back and began to pace back and forth. "All right." He said. "Of all the valuable items in a store, why did you only steal an old compass?" "I was hired by Declan to steal it." The thief explained. "That and another part for that thing. According to Declan once all the pieces of the compass are assembled, some magical shit will happen and it'll lead the owner to a vault that once belonged to a Tevinter Magister back in the Imperium's glory days." "How many pieces does he need?" The thief sighed "From what Declan tells me only one more. He was right about one thing, that compass is magical. As soon as Declan put the compass together it started to glow and point to where the next piece is located." Willis raised an eyebrow "How do you know?" he asked confused about the compass' function. "It's what Declan told me." The thief said impatiently. "The compass seemingly has the ability to track its missing parts. Like I said you need all of them so you can unlock the vault's location." Willis frowned and looked at Kailyn. "Has Declan always chased legends?" he asked. After hearing Kailyn's answer Willis went back to the thief. "What's your relationship with Declan?" The thief rolled his eyes "Purely professional or at least on my end." The thief spat. "Declan hired me to steal the pieces of the compass. He also promised me a cut of whatever we find in the vault. The thefts went smoothly and without incident. Until I talked to him again at my camp. Declan told me: "Oh we appreciate your help but unfortunately, we're going to have wished you well in your future endeavors. Before I knew it, his men tried to kill me. Thankfully or not.... The Darkspawn came killed most of Declan's men and kidnapped me. Sadly the creatures didn't gut the bastard as I saw escape!" Willis crossed his arms. "Where?" "Probably Lothering." The thief grumbled. "Preparing for the journey to get the final part. Now I told you all I know cut me down!" Willis shook his head "not yet." he said while turning to Durk and Kailyn. "What do you think we should do with him?" He asked. cmoe

i.imgur.com/WH7MLVx.png Character Name: Kailyn Race: Human Gender: Female Class: Dual Wielding Rogue Kailyn listened intently as the thief answered Willis’s questions. The idea that the Elf knew so much of Declan’s plan was hard for Kailyn to swallow. Unless he had changed in the last five years; Declan would never reveal this much information to a hired thief. Kailyn realized Willis was asking her a question. “Has Declan always chased legends?” “As I mentioned earlier, Declan never showed any interest in artifacts unless it was to sell them for profit. He never expressed any interest in old legends either.” Kailyn responded thoughtfully. Kailyn felt her mind drift. ---------- “Kailyn those tales are ridiculous. You don’t really believe that shit?” Declan was asking her with a laugh in his voice.
“Well why not," she replied, "magic is everywhere and there are so many unexplained things. So much of history is lost or explained away with theories. Why wouldn’t there be lost treasures? What’s wrong with a good old ancient treasure story?”
Kailyn chuckled as Declan pulls her into his lap saying, “I give up Kailyn. Fine, lets finishing reading the book to see if they find the crazy disappearing treasure.”---------- Focus Kailyn, this was not the time for silly memories. You need to pay attention, Kailyn scolded. Trying to ease her anxiety, she began to pace. The thief was telling them about his interactions with Declan and the run in with the darkspawn. Kailyn still didn’t think the thief was being completely honest. Why would Declan offer to share profits? He would have never done that in the past. Furthermore, he would not kill the thief without good reason. He was a business man after all. That was not good business. Willis turned to Kailyn and Durk, asking, "What do you think we should do with him?" “I don’t believe he is telling the truth. Unless Declan had a magical personality makeover in the last five years; he would not have revealed this much of his plan to the Elf. It’s more likely, the Elf heard the story and went to Declan with a plan. Which I believe means the thief knows more about the compass then he is was letting on.” Kailyn reasoned, biting her lip in thought. “Wait, what.. no.. that’s not true, I don’t know anything.” The thief stuttered. “I... well, maybe heard some stuff about a magical compass. But who believes that nonsense?” Kailyn, already lost in thought, waved a hand to Willis. “I don’t care what you choose to do with him. I don’t believe he knows how to locate Declan.” she said dismissively. Space Cowboy

His henchman wasn't too keen on him chasing her, but he seemed intent. I'd watch out, Kailyn. He may try something." He looked at the still strung up thief. "May as well cut him down and drag him to New Hope. I'm sure he will be cooperative. Or," he smirked at the thief, "We could leave him here for the spiders." "No, no!" the thief shouted frantically. "Please, I'll cooperate!" While Willis cut down the thief, Durk spoke privately to Kailyn. "How's our new recruit? Also, I'm not sure what Declan is up to. He seems intent on finding you. I have no idea what the motive is for searching for this treasure. Maybe we'll get a chance to ask him." [OOC ok, in the interest of getting Durk to a position where he can leave the party, I'll write to get them to New Hope. Please note that under normal circumstances I wouldn't move them so far with so little interaction.] Durk headed to the cave exist, Willis and Kailyn dragging the thief along behind him. Once outside he said "Alright, here's the plan. We will get to New Hope as fast as we can, hand over our new friend to the guards to answer for the theft, and then I need to check the ravens. I'm expecting a message. Hopefully good news. " *** The trip back to town was uneventful. The thief was cooperative, happy to be alive, no doubt. Addressing Kailyn and Willis, he said "Alright why don't you two go deal with the town guards and thre shopkeeper. I'm sure he will want an update, and to find out what's happening with his compass. And for the Stones sake, don't tell him anything. Just say it's been passed on and we are tracking it down for him. Alright?" Durk headed off to check the ravens, leaving Kailyn and Willis to take the thief in. Arriving in the raven aerie, he gave his name and asked if there were any messages. As it happened, there was. He received a small scroll. unfurling it, he read the tightly written script. he nodded in satisfaction, and then tucked the note awy in his pocket. Findinf Willis and Kailyn again, he greeted them. "Got good news, you two. Whatever Declan is after in Denerim, hes not there yet. He got sidetracked to an old ruined castle to the north-west. Rolf is in Denerim now, and I'm going to meet him there, try to find out where his missing piece is hiding.. How about you two see what he's up to at the ruin, then meet me at the Gnawed noble tavern in Denerim. Sound good?" [OOC Tagging smilesja ]

joruska.com/pics/var/resizes/Morrowind/2E_839_Cyrus.jpg “I don’t care what you choose to do with him. I don’t believe he knows how to locate Declan.” Kailyn said dismissively. Willis looked at her incredulously. "People change Kailyn." He said, "Whatever is in that vault assuming it exists has Declan willing to do whatever it takes to find it." Willis raised his hand as though to make a point. "Even sacrifice good business sense." "From what I overheard, Declan wants something from Kailyn. His henchman wasn't too keen on him chasing her, but he seemed intent. I'd watch out, Kailyn. He may try something." Durk said rubbing his chin. "Sounds like he's fucking with Kailyn," Willis answered bitterly as memories of his mother overwhelmed him. "We read a letter written by Declan back at the thief's camp. It turns out, he still has feelings for her." Willis looked at Kailyn and sighed. "If anything, it looks like Declan is trying to emotionally manipulate her." Continuing to stare at Kailyn Willis added: "It's best to be cautious Kailyn I've gone through that shit before and I ended up hating myself for falling for it." The Thief still stuck in the spider web looked very annoyed: "Awwww..... You had a bad past?" He asked Willis, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "Too bad! I told you all I know! So let me down!" Willis chuckled at the Thief's predicament. Durk, on the other hand, looked up at the thief, deciding his fate. "May as well cut him down and drag him to New Hope. I'm sure he will be cooperative. Or," he smirked at the thief, "We could leave him here for the spiders." Willis laughed. "I'd love that. Saves me the worry of whether he'll try to slit my throat while I sleep!" "No, no!" the thief shouted frantically. "Please, I'll cooperate!" "Ah don't cry you, big baby," Willis smirked. "We'll cut you down, but your ass is going to answer for your crime." The thief whimpered presumably at the thought of facing time in jail as Willis began to cut him down with his saber. While he did so, he heard Durk whisper something to Kailyn but Willis couldn't make out the words. (OOC: One long walk later. I suggest playing this as Willis, Kailyn and Durk go through the village of New Hope: The trio, along with the thief finally arrived at New Hope. Willis felt exhausted, being in Spirit form for even just a minute can be equivalent to running 15 miles non-stop at least that's what the seer told him. Durk led the way while Willis and Kailyn held the thief. It was a silent walk, Kailyn wasn't the chatty type and Durk was determined to get out of the forest. The thief looked crestfallen at the fact that he'll face justice for his crime, yet relieved that he won't be Spider food. Approaching the gates Durk stopped and looked at Willis and Kailyn "Alright why don't you two go deal with the town guards and the shopkeeper." He said "I'm sure he will want an update, and to find out what's happening with his compass. And for the Stones sake, don't tell him anything. Just say it's been passed on and we are tracking it down for him. Alright?" Willis raised an eyebrow. "What? You want the treasure for yourself?" He smiled. "Sure boss as long as you pay me." Staring at Kailyn Willis smiled. "Let's go! Stranger!" As the two hauled the thief to the towns guard. The village was active, with people were going about with their daily activities. The thief attempted to struggle from Willis and Kailyn's grip. "You know." He said, "You two aren't so different from me!" "Keep walking," Willis said. "I bet you two kill and smuggle for a living!" The thief said spitefully. "Yet you get away with it! You must feel so righteous bringing in a fellow criminal to "justice!" "Kailyn, can you believe this asshole?" Willis asked the brown haired woman while laughing. "Well listen, thief, I can't speak for my friend but I don't get caught. You on the other hand did. So, therefore, you are terrible at your job. Understood?" The thief remained silent as Willis and Kailyn approached closer to a nearby guard, who's sitting on a stool sleeping near a house. "I feel sorry for you two's mother." the Thief said finally. "My mother was an abusive whore," Willis said sharply. "She's probably dead in a ditch somewhere but that's just me being hopeful." Willis and Kailyn finally reached the guard who was snoring. "Hold him for me, Kailyn," Willis said as he walked towards him. "That's the same lazy guard from yesterday." Willis thought as he rapped his knuckles on the guard's helmet. "Hey!" Willis said continuing to knock on his headgear. "Wake up!" The guard got up instantly and tried to pull out his (rusted) Iron Longsword. "What?! Who goes there?!" He slurred with specks of drool landing on Willis' vest. Willis rolled his eyes at the man's incompetence. "Here's a knocking indeed! If a man were porter of hell-gate, he should have old turning the key!" The man continued to rant. "You're guarding a village," Willis said. "And you're doing a piss poor job at it!" The guard came to his senses. "Oh hello, you two!" He said. "What have you here!" "We present to you the Elf who stole from the Merchant," Willis said. "Now where's our fucking pay?" "Pay?!" The guard snorted. "Well oh right! Here are six gold coins!" The man counted them and gave to Willis. The guard took the Thief from Kailyn. "Now thief! It's time to prepare you for a hanging!" The thief groaned and seemingly resigned to his fate as the guard cuffed him and hauled him away. Willis felt a pang of guilt but shrugged it off. The thief is the village's problem now. Willis approached Kailyn and gave her three coins. "You can thank me now." He chuckled "Come on! Let's update Sven!" As the two approach the shop Sven was grinning ear to ear. "Did you find my compass?!" He asked nervously. "No, but my partner and I caught the thief who stole it," Willis explained. "He gave it to his friend and we're tracking him down-" "WELL DON'T JUST STAND THERE GET AFTER HIM!" Sven exploded. "MY ANCESTORS WILL HAUNT ME TO MY GRAVE IF I DON'T RETRIEVE IT!" "Ooooookay." Willis said hastily staring at Kailyn. "Let's get the hell out of here." As the two exited the shop Willis shook his head. "That man is crazy Kailyn!" Willis said as they found Durk with a smile on his face. "Got good news, you two. Whatever Declan is after in Denerim, he's not there yet. He got sidetracked to an old ruined castle to the northwest. Rolf is in Denerim now, and I'm going to meet him there, try to find out where his missing piece is hiding... How about you two see what he's up to at the ruin, then meet me at the Gnawed Noble Tavern in Denerim. Sound good?" Willis nodded his head. "So past Lothering right? That's almost a day's walk. We gotta stock up on food and weapons before heading out but sounds like a plan. Hopefully, we can reach Declan before he can set out." Turing to Kailyn, Willis smiled. "Looks like it's you and me again stranger!" He laughed. cmoe20

i.imgur.com/WH7MLVx.png Character Name: Kailyn Race: Human Gender: Female Class: Dual Wielding Rogue Kailyn was deep in thought and vaguely heard Willis talking about Declan. Does he think I’m incapable of seeing through the man? There was no use explaining the situation. She knew better than most what Declan was capable of.
Durk had pulled Kailyn to the side asking “How’s our new recruit? Also, I'm not sure what Declan is up to. He seems intent on finding you. I have no idea what the motive is for searching for this treasure. Maybe we'll get a chance to ask him." “The new recruit talks a lot. More than you when you are, ah ‘drunk’. Holds his own in a fight. He didn’t mention he was one of those spirit warriors though. It’s useful but risky to be making deals with spirits. I don’t even want to think about Declan right now.” Kailyn whispered in response. Kailyn walked to where Willis was cutting down the thief so she could assist him in dragging the thief back to New Hope. Fortunately, the walk back to the village was pleasantly quiet. When they reached the village Durk explained that he had to check for messages while Kailyn and Willis took care of the thief. Kailyn rolled her eyes when Willis asked “What? You want the treasure for yourself?” Durk just shot her a wink as Kailyn and Willis went in the opposite direction to find the guards. The thief became chatty as they neared the village guards. "I bet you two kill and smuggle for a living!" The thief said spitefully. "Yet you get away with it! You must feel so righteous bringing in a fellow criminal to "justice!" Kailyn really didn’t care what the thief thought but she replied anyway. “It’s not too far out of our way to put you right back where we found you. Would that be preferable?” It had grown quiet again when the thief decided he wasn’t finished trying to rile the pair. “I feel sorry for you two's mother." He remarked snidely “Really that’s the best you have, a comment about our mothers?” Kailyn was slightly amused by the thief. He wasn’t very clever. Willis didn’t seem phased by the thief anymore than Kailyn was. Kailyn held onto the thief while Willis woke the guard. “What I don’t understand is why Declan would hire someone as dense as you?” Kailyn asked the Thief. Upon deciding she didn’t care, she interrupted the thief’s response. “Never mind, I’ve lost interest in your ramblings.” Based off the incoherent rambling, the guard was waking from a drunken stupor. After Willis got the full attention of the guard, he explained the situation. The guard took possession of the thief at least. Kailyn was unsure handing the thief over to the guard was the right decision. He mentioned hanging the thief, that seemed a bit extreme. It was too late to change their minds now. Willis completed his business with the guard. He offered Kailyn half the pay from the guard saying, “You can thank me now.” “Thank you for giving me my fair share of a reward you received for something we did together. How very kind.” Kailyn offered sarcastically. It was a short walk to the shop. Kailyn remained quiet, using the time to clear her head. Or an attempt to anyway. The memories of Declan were vivid and would not leave her be. While Willis explained the situation with the compass to the store owner, Kailyn paced. Kailyn was exhausted. She was feeling confused by everything that had happened in just two short days. Kailyn was uncomfortable with emotions, they only confused things. “Kailyn clear your stupid head and focus on the task at hand”. Kailyn scolded herself quietly. Her thoughts were interrupted by a screeching store owner. "WELL DON'T JUST STAND THERE GET AFTER HIM! MY ANCESTORS WILL HAUNT ME TO MY GRAVE IF I DON'T RETRIEVE IT!" Kailyn couldn’t suppress a chuckle at the theatrics of the store owner. Willis looked to Kailyn saying, “Let’s get the hell out of here.” “For once, I couldn’t agree more,” Kailyn replied already heading out of the shop. Kailyn was hoping Durk had received a good lead on Declan or the compass. It turned out Durk did have good news for them. Rolf had a good lead on Declan’s whereabouts. It looked like Declan was heading to Denerim but stopped to investigate some old ruins. Well, that was strange. It must be the location of the missing piece for the compass. It was decided, Durk would head to Denerim to meet up with Rolf, while Kailyn would go with Willis to the old ruins. Kailyn needed to stock up especially if they were going to keep running straight into trouble. Willis turned to Kailyn with a smile "Looks like it's you and me again stranger!" He laughed. “Wonderful, you and me.” Kailyn deadpanned in response. “I need to restock if we are going to keep falling face first into battles with spiders and darkspawn. We should probably meet at the village gate in one hour. Does that work for you?” Kailyn asked. She was obviously going to be stuck with Willis a bit longer and being antagonistic towards him wasn’t going to help anything. smilesja

joruska.com/pics/var/resizes/Morrowind/2E_839_Cyrus.jpg (OOC: Is it okay that Kailyn arrives first? PM me.) The weapon shop had a warm, homely feel and it made Willis feel a bit sleepy. He leaned against the counter and watched a pregnant brown haired elven woman carefully placed the throwing knives and a steel dagger in front of him. Willis agreed with Kailyn to meet her outside the village gates in an hour after they both restocked on items. Willis was exhausted, between fighting the Darkspawn, Spiders and going into Spirit form. All Willis wanted, was to find a warm bed and relax. Yet Kailyn insisted that they get going and seek out Declan. Willis was puzzled by all this. The thief claimed that Declan wanted to retrieve the lost Tevinter treasure. Judging by his actions, Declan was not above backstabbing to get it. Kailyn says that this was definitely not like Declan to do the things he did. Kailyn described Declan as the cunning type, a businessman like Durk but more calculating a stark contrast to what the Thief said about Declan. Willis rubbed his forehead. Which version of Declan was accurate? He couldn't think of a reason why Kailyn and the Thief would lie about Declan. So the logical conclusion was that he Declan changed over the years though one thing that seemingly hasn't changed was his love for Kailyn. Willis recalled the letter from this morning, its contents were very creepy and it obviously affected Kailyn. While they were talking to Sven, Willis noticed from the corner of his eye that Kailyn was pacing around looking irritated (well more than usual). Willis suspects that Kailyn was trying not to think of Declan. "What happened between the two?" Willis wondered. He couldn't just ask Kailyn about Declan. Willis didn't make a good impression on Kailyn from what the little time they knew each other. "I said I would protect her! She's not a fucking damsel in distress she's a fucking merc!" Willis thought, groaning as the feeling of embarrassment surged throughout his body. "Sir?" the Elven woman asked, rubbing her baby bump. "Is there anything wrong?" Willis yawned "nothing," he said groggily. He thought about what he said to Kailyn last night. Willis at that time was definitely delirious from blood loss. Yeah, he was grateful that Kailyn told the truth but Willis went over the top in his response. This Declan sounds like a manipulative guy and Willis doesn't Kailyn will be mentally ready. "There you go again, assuming she's a princess who needs saving," Willis growled quietly to himself. But Willis did experience that same emotional manipulation, first by his mother then Captain Bart Davis. Two people whom Willis desired love and admiration from. His mother was as he bluntly stated to the Thief was an abusive whore. She would blow up at Willis what felt like every day. She would always blame him for everything that was wrong her life, yet she used Willis to do her dirty work. Willis remembered that she would all of a sudden gently pat his head and tell him that she'll love him IF he gives her the coins necessary so she can buy herself luxuries. Wanting to please her, Willis did as he told, begging for coins on the docks. Willis would give her the coin and he was showered with kisses by his mother saying that he was a "good boy." It didn't last long, and his mother beat and berate Willis and then beg him to get coin so she can get high. It was a vicious cycle. Of course, she ended up abandoning him one day when Willis was six years old...... "Excuse me sir?" the Elven woman asked snapping Willis back to reality. "So that's 10 throwing knives and a Steel Dagger." Willis frowned "Y-yeah that's it." he said nervously. The woman clapped her hands "Excellent! In total that'll be one gold coin!" Willis slapped the coin on the counter. "Thanks," he said as he looked around the weapons shop and saw all the Greatswords, Longswords of different types decorated on the walls. "Nice place," Willis said with approval. The Elven woman smiled "Glad you like it, this shop been owned my family for 25 years. Every weapon you see here has been handcrafted by them and me. We're smiths." Willis nodded in approval "Good to see the proud tradition is continuing." He noticed the woman's baby bump. "So," he said awkwardly. "When is the baby due?" "Next month." "Who's the father? If you don't mind me by asking?" The woman sighed. "No, I don't mind. The father- my husband died fighting for the Inquisition." Willis gave a saddened expression. "I'm sorry to hear that." He said sympathetically. The woman shook her head trying to fight back tears. "It's good that he gave his life to save the world. When this baby comes, I'm going to him or her with love and care and tell him about their father." Willis smiled "Good." He said the baby is going to get the opposite treatment that Willis had as a child. For one, Willis never knew his father. The Elven Woman smiled and locked her brown eyes onto Willis. Willis winced as flashbacks began to take over his head. Memories of his time as a Pirate, Captain Davis kicking open Willis' private quarters........... "Sir?" The woman said concerned for Willis' well-being. Willis shook his head in order to get rid of the bad memories. "Oh! I'm sorry! Long day!" He said hastily as he gathered the items from the counter and put them in his bag. "Thanks again!" Willis smiled as exited the door while his heart was thumping. Willis spent the next 45 minutes buying food and other items needed for the long road ahead. As soon as he was done, he headed towards the gate where Kailyn was waiting for him. Willis frowned, If he wanted to earn Kailyn's trust he better start now..... "Hey Kailyn, before we set out I have something to say." Willis breathed heavily. "I'm sorry that we came off on the wrong foot. Especially last night where I said I was going to protect you. It was a stupid thing to say and It was demeaning. You're battle-hardened mercenary, not some princess needing to be rescued. I am grateful that you told me the truth, not many people were truthful to me in my life. I just went overboard in expressing my gratitude." Bile began to from in Willis' throat, but he quickly swallowed it. "I'm not good at talking to people. I prefer to work alone mainly due to trust issues and my somewhat limited communication skills. I'm usually too blunt or too talkative and you experienced the latter." After a nervous look at the stars in the sky as a way to calm down Willis continued. "I know you don't think much about me, and I can't blame you for that." Willis sighed trying to stare at Kailyn "Look, all I want to tell you is that as soon as we confront Declan, I got your back no matter what." Willis then looked at the road. "Say, Kailyn, why don't we set up camp in the woods? I'm exhausted." cmoe

i.imgur.com/VaDhm9j.jpg Character Name: Kailyn Race: Human Gender: Female Class: Dual Wielding Rogue Kailyn was grateful for the time alone. She wasn’t used to having someone around every minute of the day. She always enjoyed tinkering, it relaxed her. Making her bombs would be a good task to help clear her head. She went in search of a village herbalist. Stepping into a small shop resembling a kitchen, Kailyn was greeted by a pleasant looking older woman. Kailyn attempted a friendly greeting while providing a list of what she needed. The shop owner smiled, “you are in luck. I just restocked my supplies. You can use the little room to your left to work if you require the tools.” Truly grateful Kailyn smiled at the herbalist. She worked on her potions and bombs for forty minutes before heading out to pick up food supplies. She had a few minutes before the scheduled meeting time with Willis. Kailyn strolled through the village watching people go about their day. Sometimes she wished for a peaceful life in a quiet village. It wasn't really in her nature to sit still. Not for the first time she thought, maybe someday things will be different. Willis was not at the gate when she arrived. She leaned against the fence and let her mind wander while she waited. None of the events over the last two days made sense to her. She always knew she would see Declan again, but she didn’t understand why he was suddenly involving her in his game. She also had not expected the emotional turmoil his reappearance was causing. Her thoughts were interrupted by Willis, “Hey Kailyn, before we set out I have something to say.” Willis seemed nervous. Kailyn felt her defenses going up. A natural instinct she had developed over the years. She listened as Willis apologized for treating her like she was unable to take care of herself. He also expressed gratitude that she had been honest with him. Kailyn hadn’t provided much detail when she explained the failed ambush test to Willis. But it was lying by omission nevertheless. She could certainly relate to his profession of being bad at communicating. What bothered her though was Willis’s assumption that he knew how she felt about him. Yes, his chatty nature annoyed her but she never expressed thinking less of him. She didn't recall expressing any thoughts about him. She barely knew him. “I don’t recall expressing my feelings about you one way or another,” Kailyn stated with a raised brow. Willis was gazing at the sky looking troubled. He looked to Kailyn and spoke. "Look, all I want to tell you is that as soon as we confront Declan, I got your back no matter what." Well, that was certainly a line she had heard before. It only managed to aggravate her further. Willis barely knew her, yet she was to believe he had her back. Curious, she couldn’t decide if he was naive or ruthless. Instead of prolonging this conversation she said, “We need to get moving.” Willis then looked at the road. "Say, Kailyn, why don't we set up camp in the woods? I'm exhausted." “That’s probably wise.” Kailyn reasoned. She needed to clean and sharpen her blades as well as get a few hours of sleep. It only took them a few minutes to find a suitable spot to settle for the night. Kailyn began to work on her blades while her mind tried to process the events of the last two days. opuspace
