smilesja I had a thought! Just the one though An item left at the camp can confirm for Kailyn Declan is involved. (like a coin, ring, something) It would give her more motivation to continue searching. Otherwise, she isn't big on taking jobs with this much hassle. Sure! That's something Kailyn can find.

So I didn't remember much of the lore on Sylvan so I read up on them. The Wikia shows they grow in these locations, Brecilian Forest, Twisted Forest, Wending Wood,Korcari Wilds. I know we are heading to Lothering. Does that mean we are near the Korcari Wilds? could explain the Darkspawn. Or is the lore in rp'ing however we want it to be?

Hi all, thanks for adding me! I was chatting with both smilesja and cmoe in PM about things like setting the scene and everyone's role in the process of participating so I thought I'd share some thoughts here for both of you, and anyone else who's interested. First off, roles. Generally, the thread starter(TS) has a story in mind, an over arching plot line, that he wants the other writers to react to. The TS is not a director of the movie. He or she does not get to tell you, or even ask you, to respond in certain ways. They just set the scene, and let the others notice what they can see or hear in a new area, for instance. This can be in storytelling via the TS's post, or can be in the OOC thread like this one, or even PM. They are a guide for the overall plot. The other writers generally cooperate with the TS in order to write their own parts as they see fit, and maybe add ideas to the story as it may come up. They shouldn't introduce plot elements that were not approved by the TS. For instance if I'm writing a warden story, taking place in Denerim, another writer should not write that a group of darkspawn rounded the corner and attacked. Since this doesnt fit with my overarching plot. On the other had they could suggest additional things for their character to do, to better fit them into the story, or to add some fun element that the TS hadn't thought of. Regardless of who makes suggestions, they should be for the benefit of the story and all the characters, not just to make your own character look good. Play nice and treat other writers with respect and as equal partners in the story writing.
Now, setting the scene. Say I am writing a thread and want to let a person join. I can suggest a place that fits the story, like a guard barracks or tavern, and suggest a plot hook to draw that character in. What I should not do is tell the other person, or 'suggest' why they are there or what their motivations are. I hope the difference is clear. Their reasons for being their and their motivations are their own. All I can say is what they have to react to. Here's an example of what I mean. I want Durk to enter a tavern and overhear a dastardly plot. I cannot tell Durk why he's in the tavern or how he should react to the conversation. I'm a scene setter and guide, not the director of a play. Here's what I would expect for setting a scene for Durk. A typical tavern, crowded and noisy. Various conversations can be heard but one stands out: Bad Guy 1: "Are you sure they don't expect anything?" Bad Guy 2: "Yeah. The elf took care of it. none the wiser." Bad Guy 1: "we were told to eliminate the new merc and the broad." bad Guy two "We will. They are walking into a trap as we speak." ---- This is just an example It gives specific dialog that I want Durk to hear. I don't leave this up to Durk's writer because they wouldn't know these plot points. I also don't tell Durk's writer what he should think of the conversation or what to do with the information. Maybe he will warn the other two, maybe he wont. Its not for me to say. I hope that was all clear.

Space Cowboy thank you for providing this information. I am very grateful to you and smilesja for being so patient with me. In this case, who is Durk's writer? I was wondering if maybe Declan fed Durk the job/tip about the stolen compass to get Kailyn involved in the plot. I would assume his writer could maybe decide Durk is clever and figured out something was going on and he didn't like being manipulated. I'm unsure where Declan fits, I don't think he is where the trail ends. Maybe another person in the background pulling all the strings. that may be too many dead ends and twists though. Just some thoughts!

Delcan Is the main villain at this point. Space will be writing Durk At this point do we know if the merchant's tale about the compass is true. Is there a reason to steal it beyond money? Such as power, answers? Or is the plot going to stay more simplified (esp for me).

There are three pieces and Declan has two of them at the moment.

I'm thinking Durk will hear something about the compass from Declan and realise somethings up. So Declan has the compass for sure? How did the elf get it to him if he was attacked by darkspawn?

Declan and his crew me with the elf at the campsite. They had a disagreement and the elf began fighting Declan. They were interrupted by the Darkspawn who attacked the group and captured the thief allowing Declan to get away with the compass. Willis and Kailyn are currently talking to a Sylvian who points them to where the thief is being held. As for a physical description you need to ask cmoe for that. Also as soon as Willis and Kailyn reunite with Durk they can go after Declan. You see the compass needs three peices before it can magically point them in the direction of the treasure. Declan currently has the compass and another peice and is currently looking for the final part but doesn't know where. Maybe Durk can overhear that conversation.

Possible ideas is that durk can overhear Declan talking about where he thinks the final piece is (somewhere in denerim with a another merchant? Probably a collector of historical aritifacts)

Space Cowboy maybe it's good the details weren't nailed down with Durk, it leaves room for you to take over and be as creative as you want with my shady-drunken-dwarf. So if you both haven't noticed I have an annoying hobby of creating (and playing) lots of DA characters. So maybe Declan can look like one of the two? (or not) but Kailyn does like the pretty boys! She was only a teenager when she fell for him. i.imgur.com/ik5ZYam.jpgOR i.imgur.com/LFLjQv5.jpg
