I think this is going to be a polarizing game from everything I have been seeing on the subject. Seems likely. I've seen too many games dismissed as 'shit' of late because individuals didn't like the game, rather than because it was a bad game. In my view, the 'game review' process is rather broken (both over-positive and over-negative) and that's not a reflection of Death Standing particularly, I've seen very odd reviews from game journalists and YouTubers alike in recent years. Sadly I think they are chasing the same thing anymore and have about the same amount of training to do their jobs. Give your opinion, but make sure its the right one so the internet views what you are claiming. I remember when Anthem was near release there were so many articles about its problems, but other games that people don't care about just pass by. Such as recent Anthem articles talking about it being dead, but I have an easier time finding groups in Anthem then I do with Division 2.

And so it begins. No spoilers, so non-contextual walking screenshots may follow. An hour in and already it's madder than a box of frogs...

I am now a porter, and it's awesome. I suspect I'll take a good amount of time picking up packages and laying down ladders and ropes. This is going to take a long time, I don't feel I'm in a hurry...

Just started Death Stranding at the weekend. I'm currently deep into another playthrough of Inquisition and felt like taking a break for a while. I never played Metal Gear Solid and DS looked and sounded like something different, so I thought well why not?
First impressions... It certainly is different!
I have no idea what's going on. I'm totally confused with all of the information and systems that the game is throwing at me non-stop. All I've done for hours is carefully traverse the gorgeous map and deliver packages. Slowly snuck past the BTs in terror, holding my breath while BB whimpers (poor little guy). Haven't fired (or even seen) a gun yet. Just in awe watching the early cutscenes play out and listening to the perfect music play at certain points.
I think I love it.

I don't have the game but I find it hilarious that it is basically about playing a Fedex employee and people are loving it despite all the complaining about Fedex quests these last few years. Well some people seems to like it at least.

Well some people seems to like it at least. Perhaps the thing is that it doesn't matter so much 'what' the quest is, so long as it's engaging and immersive. Transporting '5 ram meat' needs to have a how and why as well as a what.

Well some people seems to like it at least. I watched the game in cutscene movie form... to which I think one Youtube commenter put it best;
"I have just watched a man talk to holograms who are extremely happy with their Amazon parcels for over 11 hours... I need help."

Yeah I don't really understand why I find this game so compelling. The vast majority of my almost 50 hours playtime so far has been taking a package from A to B.
That's honestly about 90% of what you do. Take this package over there. Then do it again, and again, and again... And for some reason I'm having a great time! Like I'm planning my routes and using all the available tools to deliver the hell out of my packages!
I'm not sure what is so addictive about this, I just know I am addicted. It could be the utterly bizarre setting, story and characters that keep me going, looking forward to what out-there shit the next cutscene will throw at me. Or it could be the fact that the gameplay systems are tight as a drum, designed to perfection, constantly evolving, pushing me forward, always revealing new tricks and providing small victories and rewards so that every game session feels like progress.
I totally understand that some people would see nothing worthwhile in this game, but to me it's just so unusual and unique and oddly moreish. I think it's great. It's been ages since I found a new game that I can't help thinking about during the day at work. I'm talking to customers, but in my head I'm considering my plans to better navigate that new rocky canyon area that took me proper ages to traverse last night.

Man, what a ride! Finished the main story at almost 60 hours. Pretty much mainlined the story in the second half, after spending the first few chapters just roaming around. The game got it's hooks in me hard, almost from the word go. Had to force myself to switch it off during a couple of late night sessions, just yawning like a cavern thinking, "I'm working in a few hours but just one more thing before bedtime".
To be honest, I'm not really sure what to make of the story in the end. I did enjoy it, some of the cutscenes were incredible, the acting was top quality across the board, it did it's own weird thing and I loved some of the social commentary aspects of it, but I'm just not sure it felt..."satisfying" as the credits rolled (and rolled...and rolled... ). I will be thinking on it for a while though, I know that, and that's praise in my opinion.
Great gameplay though. No arguments there from me. I will definitely be coming back to play around in this world from time to time, getting every outpost up to 5 stars and perfecting my zipline networks.
It doesn't seem like anyone is really interested on here, but for what it's worth I would highly recommend giving Death Stranding a chance at some point. It's a very unique take on the open world formula, and just a refreshing change of pace in general.

Played a bit this week and don't dig the early game at all...hammy exposition dumps and painfully dull gameplay systems do not a good experience make!!! Do things pickup at any stage?

Played and finished this game a while ago and all i can say is that this is one of the weirdest games i have ever played. And second this is one of the most beautiful games i have played on my PS4. And that's all i wanted to say about this game.

Just downloaded this game and while it is mysterious, confusing and attention grabbing, ii am wondering if it is just about delivering packages - go fetch. I see so much potential in what could be a very compelling story - what happened, how, when, why? But I’m not loving parcel pick up/delivery. Does that change?

I returned to it a couple days ago, on a save I had started maybe a year ago. I have to start over, I have no idea what is going on anymore and I am getting lost with too many packages on my back with more to pick up along the way.... I'm going to restart on Very Easy, and "play" it like an interactive movie. If the story captures me, then I will get the DC and play it again at normal or hard. I don't particularly care for the balancing minigame.
