You know when I first heard about him putting our information out there...well especially mine...I was kind of adopting a 'lets bring it' attitude. I'd love a cheap five minutes of fame. However, with all this...I remember that in my life my username has been compromised at least twice (once was my own damn fault though) which led to some rather, complicated issues IRL. So yeah, can't blame people for being cautious and if anything this is another eminder that perhaps I should be more cautious in the future. I mean Jason can do little damage to me as far as this forum is concerned...

One of the users on this forum deleted their account ever since they ended on up on Jason's twitter feed. How silly. I'm... supposed to NOT laugh at that? Jason acted like a petulant child and screenshoted the users without even masking their username or other important info. What kind of professional does this?

Indeed Varric. Liam says it too lol well I read it in Varric's voice though. Also I think Varric uses it in both DA2 and DAI almost like a catchphrase for him also his personal quest in DAI is entitled that. Which again was why I thought of Varric.

actually having just registered the other day he is the reason i didn't link my PSN profile to my profile on this forum, since it contains sensitive info about me (part of my RL name). i imagine many others are in the same boat. It's pretty dumb to put sensitive info anywhere on the internet if it can potentially be seen by anyone whom you wouldn't want to. A PSN profile not set to private is public, ditto social media, ditto any posts on a public forum (such as this one). Taking screenshots of public forum posts is not a violation of privacy. there's a difference between consenting to readers of this forum viewing my PSN username and being exposed to his entire twitter following, as well as people who have an axe to grind against Bioware and their fans. what he did was encouraging harassment.

Taking screenshots of posts on a public forum might not be a violation of privacy but is another example of insecurity. "Oh no, they're saying bad things about me! And how dare they question my reporting! Mommy!!" If he's so confident of his reporting he should let it speak for itself.

I guess the good thing about Jason having all these supposed exclusive unnamed sources at BioWare is that I'll never have to click on an article by him again since it will be parroted by every other gaming sight soon after...

A PSN profile not set to private is public, ditto social media, ditto any posts on a public forum (such as this one). Taking screenshots of public forum posts is not a violating of privacy. While being secure is always advised, being forced into it is wrong. Even an individual using a similar screen name, ID or such now has to worry about Jason or his supporters doxxing them over their personal views. I don't know about you, but I've been in countries where your personal opinion can get you jail time...or worse. Fear and intimidation should NOT be the norm, NOR rule of law. Placing the blame on the individual being attacked rather than the individual ATTACKING might BE the norm in some places, but it DOESN'T make it right. Seriously, we came here because (most of us anyway) love the games, the stories, the mechanics...etc, NOT because we wanted to stir things up. No one here deserves to be bullied or threatened because of their views upon a subject...that even extends to the Kotaku writer. However, by posting those screenshots, he painted targets on those individuals...nay, EVERY INDIVIDUAL on these boards that he and his supporters disagree with. Of course, he can claim that it wasn't 'his fault', and deny any responsibility for his actions...even IF his actions lead to something unfortunate happening due to his posting of those screenshots. There have been a host of individuals that have encouraged improper behavior that seem surprised that anything ill has come of it. I WON'T link references...any one with a bit of Googling can find out what I'm talking about... Taking pictures without another's consent IS a violation of privacy...maybe not where you are, but there are a LOT of places that consider it so.

Doing it to point out stuff that he thought was silly is not harassment. If he actually directed people to dox or SWAT or libel any of you or something, then you'd have a leg to stand on. Saying "look at this, I find their reactions funny" about things that people wrote for public consumption is totally fair game. Man, the BSN truly lives on, cringey melodrama and all.

My contract (I'm an independent) has incredibly specific language about anything I post can be used by a third-party for legal reasons. I'm an American and I served my country to uphold the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. I feel entitled to say whatever the hell I want, but it doesn't also mean whatever the hell I say is right or even moral. However, I'm not a dummy. I need my income to survive and have enough savings to thrive later. Now nothing I've said in entirety would get me in trouble. However, as hard as things are in this world, why would you take a chance? I'm like many here that don't have a Reddit, Twitter, Facebook, etc. account because of what the contract says. I know too many contractors that let their opinion be heard only to find that anonymity is a lie.

"Bob, who has a 'large' following, retweeted someone--hope he understands that he just made that person the potential target of a hypothetical maniac!"
