I have not played any URs in platinum, yet. I have been staying with my human until I get some things done.
But I have played with plenty of squads with URs.
Avengers are sweet to play with, if the team plays right. The team where the two krogan sat on the hack objective while I and the avenger tried to pull hydras and such away? That wiped. Actually, that was so sad, I just let myself die with a minute on the clock (and 0 progress on the hack).
On the other hand, I have seen Gladiators do ok on Platinum, though they I do tend to have to spend a lot of my time reviving them (which pulls my personal score down, because running to their aid and waking them up and then getting to a safe place all takes time).
Similarly for kineticists. But they seem to stay up longer, for some reason.
I also remember a few platinum games where invasion went off occasionally. I do not remember much else about the salarian (well, other than reviving some of them, but I do not remember if operators do better or worse than other salarians).
Examplars? I remember nothing about them. I should try that myself some time... maybe later, though.

I don't know. I have her at lvl 1 and 11, and find her too boring to lvl up. Same here, I ran a couple a gold games with her last night and got her to 12 I think. Tried a couple of weapons for priming: venom, paw, equalizer. I really want to like the venom, but I can't get past the wonky recharge. It reliably primes on a single charged shot to yellow bars. Other than that, I really hate the mechanics involved. It would be infinitely better if at least you didn't lose a charge every time you stubbed your toe. The paw really seems like a baby shadow now with the boost this patch. It primed fast too. With full recharge on throw, I could get tech explosions every 4 seconds. Using the SG as in Oh Crap moments. So I'm starting to like her as a consumables only character. I'm exactly on page with the venom. Once they fix it, I'll give her another go. But for ammo detonations my Hsol is better, because no cooldowns.

A rank I character is 6/6/5/2/1.
The 1 goes in whatever active power you don't care about. Avenger Strike for the stealth / sticky Angara Avenger, Overload for the Salarian Operator, Lance for every character who has Lance (joking) (sort of), etc.
One of the 6s goes in your best active power.
The other 5 or 6 goes in your other active power, and the one you didn't use goes in your fitness or passive depending upon which you need.
The 2 goes in your passive (most likely) or fitness if you are leet. Or, the 2 can go in an active power that doesn't benefit much from higher ranks.
Of course there are other possibilities; this is just off the top of my head.

I've only taken my Kineticist into all my current Platinum playthroughs and solo testing on Platinum. Largely because I've played with her the most, and familiar with what she can and can't do well the most.
Largely, I play as an opportunist. I scan the battlefield looking for enemies that have Red Bars to them under a Shield Bar, and I gauge whether I can strip it's shields or not. If so, I pull and throw off the field for immediate removal rather than let it linger and cause problems for the group. Since at XII, the 8% and 25% from equipment isn't enough to kill a Red Bar on Platinum through biotic detonation alone. So removal also means no one has to be concered about it having 1% health and restored full shields dealing 100% full damage on everyone. Just safer that way.
At other times, I provide support to others through priming and detonating. And if the time is suitable (and there's an enemy Red Bar available), a living shield for the rest through a held enemy or pair of enemies. (Blocks most hits safely, even on Platinum)
Haven't tried with the rest yet, but I gather it's basically the same: Play to the character's strengths, and not their weakness compared to the difficulty and enemy you are playing against.

The Avenger is indeed Boss, quite easy to Platinum with. Question though: How do you guys spec the Operator? I haven't actually been able to find the "sweet spot" with him yet. I spec him differently than I do in Gold. For Platinum, I’m currently using an Operator XI as follows: Invasion: 4B (Outbreak) 5B (Weaken) 6B (Sabotage) Shield Boost: 4B (Restoration) 5B (Shield Burst) 6B (Extended Duration) Overload: 3 points Offensive Tech: 4A (Duration and Damage) 5A (Anti-Shield) Support Systems: 4B (Radius) 5A 6B (Sabotage) Don’t know if this is optimal for Platinum, but it works for the matches I’ve been in thus far. I do run recharge mods for equipment and boosters so I can spam my powers more frequently. I figure it’s more important to weaken and sabotage targets with Overload/Tech Sabotage and Invasion. Happy to hear what other people are running and why. Created a new thread about Shield Boost with the Operator (and Insurgent). Thinking 6A Overcharge might be a better option than extended duration. Enemies do so much damage that Invasion's 6B Sabotage 15% reduction in enemy output can hardly be felt, so switched back to Virulence to get more explosions when enemies reach 15% health. Overload remains at 3 ranks and is used for crowd control. Lastly, changed Support Systems to 4A (Duration) from 4B (Radius).
