In the original trilogy, British humans were rare and British accents were mostly used on aliens, yet in ME:A they were a dime a dozen. This is completely immersion breaking for hardcore fans. Why would they break their own lore like this? To pander to Europeans? Because it's in vogue to hire British actors in Hollywood nowadays? Cheaper actors?

ME trilogy was dominated by Anglo-American voice actors. That includes the Brits.
ME:A is far more diverse in terms of VA nationalities and accents.

Maybe it's payback for the fact that in the trilogy, not even the British spoke with a British accent. Where was Anderson born again?

Actor thing.
I don't like it too. No, not the existence - that's cool - but SO many. On other hand, I appreciate the variety otherwise. Earthlings may be more cosmopolitan than ever before, and starting to explore space, but they still have accents.

Well... If you want to be technical -from the ME:A game point...
It is all SAM fault. That mental implant influences us and it sounds a bit British -so we hear British accent.
Though personally nothing wrong with that. I grew up around people who spoke with such an accent. Actually think I am a bit more sane because it takes a bit to understand them more than someone with an American accent.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears on the BSN. Time to die.

The confusion is understandable. The Australian accent is the British accent that went into the wild and came back feral.

Why are there accents at all? Everything is f'ing translated through a translator. You think that's bad. What about lipsyncing? If an alien is speaking in their xenonese babble, their mouth flaps should be flailing about in their weird alien syllables, but instead when they say "Take me now Shepard", their mandibles follow those words exactly. Garrus is actually screeching in metallic overtones in Shepard's face, but all Shepard hears is "Can it wait? I have to get back to calibrations."
