I'm Scottish ('born and raised in Scotland to a Scottish family'-Scottish). Since the thread asks, there's some Irish background on my mom's side that is the only 'different' thing (her father's family originated in Ulster). I'm just Scottish though*, I don't really relate to saying "I'm x/y/z because my great grandparents/great great grandparents/whatever once sneezed in x/y/z", like what does that even mean really? Ireland isn't my culture or country to claim, or my mom's either for that matter.
* Well, and Cherokee. Obviously.

I'm half Norwegian, half Swedish. Might be some other stuff mixed in far back.
My children however are a good mix of Norwegian, Swedish, English, Irish, Swiss and Italian.

Irish, Scottish, English.
On my mom's side, a bunch of really bad (mostly) English farmers, with a few Scots and Irishmen thrown in for good measure ... who came to America some time ago, to prove that they could be really, really bad farmers in the new world.
On my father's side ... a little vague, because other than DNA, he didn't provide much ... but his parents were apparently pretty fresh off the boat from Ireland ... once in America, settled in to prove that they too could be really, really bad at farming.
Long story short (oops, too late), both my parents grew up on a farm, one in Iowa, one in Nebraska, but both families lost their farms, so I grew up a city kid in Omaha. White as the driven snow, pure as the driven slush.

My mum is full English, and my dad is from Saint Helena which has been fought over and occupied so many times that it's entirely possible I've got some Chinese, Dutch, Portugese, anywhere that was part of the British Empire at the time, a diverse amount of African, further areas of Asia, et cetera. I have no real way of knowing, so I like to think I do.

I've never traced my ancestry and it's actually quite difficult since my father was adopted and knows nothing about his biological parents.
I do know that my surname can be traced back to the Anglo-Saxons, around 1100 A.D.
Also my family crest has Ducks on it.
Quack Quack bitches... :3

I'm argentinian. My grandfather (rest in peace) himself was ukranian, came to Argentina when he was a kid. There's also a bit of russian and polish.
And we have kind in Canada apparently. We found about that a few years ago. Legend has it that the "family" was divided back then. Some went to Canada and when they closed the immigration my grandfather parents came to the most immigrant friendly country in the continent: Argentina. When I learned about that I was like FUCK!!1 I wish I was in Canada. LEL.
No heritage story is completed without a lil bit of ranting.

Back again, in my earlier post I mentioned doing more research about my grandmother's aristocratic family roots. Well, she recently sent me a detailed family tree that confirms our descent from Edward Seymour (Elder brother of Queen Jane Seymour), and traces our ancestry straight back to the 14th century Lionel of Antwerp, third son of King Edward III of England.
So, I'm royalty, cool. Time to start practicing the royal 'we'

The problem I have with heritage is that we know my great grandfather was adopted and born in Constantinople. Other than causing spontaneous performances of "It's Istanbul, not Constantinople" every time that gets brought up at family gatherings, it has no real meaning. I do have a DNA kit that you mail off to determine where your genes are from. But I only remember it at meal times, so if I swabbed when I thought about it, my DNA would come back as 32% Rhode Island Red, 32% long grain rice, 16% white corn, 16% pole beans and 4% tea.

Well, he was the third son but only the second to survive infancy. Apparently his father left him in charge in England while he was off waging the Hundred Years War in France with his first son, Edward the Black Prince. EDIT: It is also through descent from Lionel's only child (Philippa, named after his mother) that the House of York made its claim to the throne in the War of the Roses. Not related to them though.

The good part about having Swedish ancestry is that if you want to map out your family tree you can easily do that as far back as the 18th century. The bad part about it? Realizing that your family has lived in the same small region for the past several hundred years... I mean, really? You couldn't at least diversify the gene pool by marrying someone from the neighboring county?

I just remembered something more. There is a story about one of my great-great grandmothers on my mother's side. It is said she was left at the door of a family when she was a baby, by the traveling people (romani people). They could not take her with them on the journey, since she was sick, and thus she was left behind. She grew up as a daughter in the family she was left at. She was said to have black hair and darker skin than other people here. I have pictures of two of her children (my great-grandmother one of them) and they both have dark hair. There are some people in my family who have black hair and darker skin, but that could also come from the Sami blood, some Sami also have those traits, so... There are no written records about this event, only the stories. Unfortunately, there exist no one in direct maternal line from her, so we can't find out by a genetic test either. My great-grandmother only had one daughter, who in turn had no children, and her only sister never married. I have no idea if it's true or not, but it's an interesting story if nothing else.

I find it so fucking cringe that literally every single fucking American person I've ever met claims to be partially Native-American. It's cringe because 1) it's obviously a lie most of the time and 2) it's cringe how these people think they're somehow more interesting or more legitimate when they're partially Native and 3) it's cringe that these people get extra free money and scholarships just because their supposed ancestors way down the line were oppressed and killed by the pilgrims. It's fucking dumb. I've yet to meet an American fella who's just 100% honest and says "Nope, I'm not Native-American, not one bit, I have 0% Native-American blood, zero, nada." Would be so fucking refreshing to finally meet a honest American person. Any honest Americans in this thread? On the previous page you will see I am an American who is 0% indigenous. I wonder why....... .

Them no good thieving motherfuckers. Let's apportion some blame where it's due ... who do you think enslaved and sold your ancestors to white slave traders in the first place? Odds are it was probably the Zulus if it was West Africa - Maasai are further east.
