^ Yeah its a tricky situation, that's for sure- on the one hand, being able to nuke double crabs definitely helps, but I also don't know how big of an overall difference that makes for a combo like Collectors/Goddess, where the problems stem from the map as much as the faction (though completing the match faster helps with that too). And AC5 in a Gold solo is a pretty big advantage. The other option I can think of also sort of sucks, but for different reasons: most challenges already allow ps3 players to swap Hazard maps for the non-Hazard version (at least for Ghost), you could allow ps3 players to substitute a different map for a problematic one like Goddess. Unfortunately the backstory for the challenge won't make very much sense if its supposed to be an Asari-themed challenge on Thessia and you do it on Glacier or Dagger or something instead. So no really great options, so far as I can tell. Maybe Loufi has some better ideas, he's not only probably the most seasoned solo'er on ps3 but also has done alot more collectors than me.

Would giving the permission for PS3 players to use Armored Compartments on Collector challenges even on Hardcore difficulties be too much? If no one has done it under current conditions, perhaps. But if there are people who did it without AC, it wouldn't be fair to them to ease up the requirements retroactively.

The reason for it is twofold: 1. I hate volus. and 2. I fckn hate volus. We may revisit some of those challenges, but first, we'll enjoy the next few - scummy scumbags with Raiders, alliance, drellgod... it's time for payback! p.s. That Incisor challenge was fun, at least for me, since muahmuah had to contend with the CSR, which he doesn't particularly like. I've liked the Incisor ever since ME2, even though it was the worst SR on Shepard. It's one of the few regular/silver cards that I take regularly into Plat matches.

Or even kept under a separate category? Speaking as a ps3 player who did some of the challenges that would be affected (the Goddess/Collectors one for the N7 series, for instance), I wouldn't have any problem with future players being allowed some mitigating option for memleak-heavy challenges, such as using AC5 or switching out a different map, especially if its explicitly noted that they did so (and/or separated into new category from entries under the original rules).

Looking over my N7 thread I saw Arkhne 's remarks about the difficulties the PS3 players face. I remember them vividly, as they were one of the main fun-killers for me on PS3. So I'd like to make a suggestion and would like to run it through people that are more acquainted with the challenge system than I am, like xelander , HamleticTortoise , Smehur , AW_FC_1986 and especially to the two PS3 heavyweights with whose work I am familiar with, q5tyhj and @fmulder : Would giving the permission for PS3 players to use Armored Compartments on Collector challenges even on Hardcore difficulties be too much?Since I was not a part of the old BSN, I do not know if such a suggestion was made before, so apologies in advance if I just reinvent the wheel. I remember this challenge on Goddess / Collectors. Besides being more completionist about platinum solos, that is what stopped me in my N7 challenges progression. After 2 hard freezes wave 5 (despite the use of missiles), I decided indeed that it was time to stop, as I didn't want to risk to break a second PS3 for it. Lore wise, I would say switching to Reapers would make the most sense for this particular mission. More globally, as q5 said, replacing hazard maps by their standard version can be a solution too in some cases. I wouldn't mind armored compartments to be allowed as well. I know 3 additional missiles is a pretty big advantages for a gold solo, but PC and X-Box users have to be aware that for some PS3 users like myself, completing certain challenges (like Collectors on Goddess or Ghost Hazard) is simply impossible (or at least very hazardous for players with a better connection). To be honest, I would allow PS3 players to avoid Collectors on the usual problematic maps, but that's Presta's call...

There is a one more solution for the PS3 plyers-buy a PC . Jokes aside,as loufi mentioned, the trollectors can be replaced with reapers. If AC5 can solve the problems for PS3 players, then why not.Where is Presta when you need him.

I can't speak for solos, but allowing AC in duos/team games wouldn't do much to allievate the problem Thinking about the Tales from the Trenches (and consequentely all non-solo challenges), I could see implementing a number of fixes: - allowing the non-hazard versions of maps; - replacing goddess with jade: another council-race map with alien-looking architecture, with a similar playstyle to goddess: a couple of good spots to hold, bottlenecks to exploit, murderous open areas, chances for terrible objectives ; - on gold collectors, no missiles allowed on wave 3, but missiles allowed on wave 8 - wave 8 is the only non-objective, double pretorians wave; - alternatively, switch from collectors to reapers as suggested already. Personally, I think changing faction would be the least desirable solution; however, I also never played on PS3, and if that's what it would take for more people to enjoy the challenges, I'd happily accept it and that's my two cents.

II. Snap Inspection, part 2 (HardCore)28:58 - HamleticTortoise | DocSteely (v)Devices - Escort - Targets Trollectors on Giant vs. Turian Cabal/Wraith and KroSol/Striker (Striker? Striker? Striiike her!)... Another really fun challenge that my partner-in-crime came up with. The fact that you need to play on separate halves of the map till you get 5WS is simplified by the two characters being very strong in their different way. Please note that to keep the roleplaying to the max we did no melee salutes till W6. As for the game play, I think the 10WS speak for themselves. Ofc I took the Cabal ... Nothing more fun than dangling some sweet turian arse in front of the crabs, with them having no chance to get you. P.S. Sorry, could not resist ninja-editing to link the Striker reference... P.P.S. And sorry again I misnamed the challenge... Corrected.

Hamletic's Tales from the TrenchesWeek 13: Cerberus HQI. You Sir, You Are a Blight!17:31 - x3lander | TheDoctor46N7 First game muahmuah got synced on wave 4. Second game I got synced on wave 5. Third game was 18:0x , but I forgot to take a screenshot. So we played it one more time and ended up with 10 WS and 11 seconds short of the record.... win some, lose some, eh. II. Conrad Verner, Ph.D.24:04 - x3lander | TheDoctor46N7Engieeeee!!! One of my favorite kits. It could have been better only if I'd had my Predator, instead of the Carnifex, but everyone knows Predator Human Engie is OP as f*ck. As it has become a tradition by now, we had to have 2xDevices, just for fun. Still, we managed 5 WS and a new record here. And now let's have a minute of silence in honour of the unknown swarmer, that heroically jumped in front of my missile, sacrificing itself to save that Atlas on wave 6...

N7 Challenge Series N1. II. CDEM 83:07 - RoystonVasey63 (266594pts)What a lengthy solo that was - "Which is nothing unusual for you, Royston.", some unkind souls might say .I'm normally a fan of the N7 Paladin (when he's equipped with a Talon or a Hurricane, that is), but with a Crusader, hmmmmmm, it's a tad - shall we say - on the meaty-side for a caster's weapon .Fair enough though - the label said "Challenge," and that's exactly what was in the tin. God help me if my matches get much longer though, cos I nearly blew a fuse during this one .

...a screenshot pending right, 'cause you did take the screenshot right Thanks for the reminder - it's fixed now. np congrats on the completion and welcome to the series *one of us, one of us* !!! there's a bunch of us working through with the mat/patriarchs laughing at our pain (seriously they're not, they're great bunch and their encouragement and advice is priceless) docsteely has a thread going for venting/advice/giggles to preempt much derailing around here as well EDIT: don't stress about time this is not a formal speedrunning series. and get ready, CDEM ain't the longest mission either ehhe... anyways i say so long as there's a challenge, some fun with it to be had and peeps and peepettes to share that's all good. i for one am more of the crawlrunners yet enjoy the series immensely. EDIT2: my biggest peeve with CDEM was not cooldown as such as the unfixed crusader and the double banshees teleporing non stop

I. Strange Bedfellows (HardCore)35:19 - HamleticTortoise | DocSteely (v)Escort - Retrieval - Retrieval Reapers on Goddess vs. AJA/Acolyte and Protector/Scorpion, 75 biotic/tech kills combined, 100 assists... This was our third attempt, the first two attempts both failing because of the inept way I played the AJA. The second one was particularly painful, because, though I got grabbed 3(!) times, HT's heroics pulled us through to the end, only to realize we did not have the required number of biotic kills. I felt I owed him one. So I did my homework and the result was definitely better, go check it out. I had forgotten how fun this character is to play (as all blue girls are).

N7 Challenge Series
2.III 183 pull-ups hardcore
59:33 - HamleticTortoise (253392 pts)Re-did this for science! - there's a lively discussion going in docsteely's thread, and I wanted to check how this build (66653, GC, katana) compared with my previous one. Didn't expect to actually finish it, let alone 20 minutes faster, but I got great objectives and a couple of good nukes, so here it goes. And before someone mentions it, yes I am also giving Ariake consideration. The latest run ended on wave 6 devices with the magical camping Ravager, which left a bitter taste...

Did u use Inc or Disruptor Ammo? Incendiary. I am coming around to the potential of continuous re-priming of disruptor ammo, but for this one I wanted to deal with armour as fast as possible. There's also the extra damage warranted to the gun, and the DoT can finish off things while you run away. The only mooks which are really dangerous are marauders here, and carnage/grenades/headshots can all stagger them, so I didn't miss the CC warranted by disruptor ammo that much either.

If no one has done it under current conditions, perhaps. But if there are people who did it without AC, it wouldn't be fair to them to ease up the requirements retroactively. What if it was specifically noted that the solo was done with AC5? Or even kept under a separate category? Speaking as a ps3 player who did some of the challenges that would be affected (the Goddess/Collectors one for the N7 series, for instance), I wouldn't have any problem with future players being allowed some mitigating option for memleak-heavy challenges, such as using AC5 or switching out a different map, especially if its explicitly noted that they did so (and/or separated into new category from entries under the original rules). Thanks for your pointing out some solutions to the PS3 problems and for specifying you don't mind if future players on PS3 would be beneficiary from some mitigating factors in doing the challenges. Thanks loufi! We have here a player who completed 168 platinum solos, who's never finished the N7 challenges and he tells you exactly why he did not: because he was afraid he'd break his console again. I know what he's talking about 'cuz my first fat PS3 was burned following my trying repeatedly to finish a Gold Collector Solo. I wonder how many of the PC mustard-race players (of which I happen to be also a part) would risk breaking their computers in a similar situation. TBH I would not. I can't speak for solos, but allowing AC in duos/team games wouldn't do much to allievate the problem Thinking about the Tales from the Trenches (and consequentely all non-solo challenges), I could see implementing a number of fixes: 1 - allowing the non-hazard versions of maps;2 - replacing goddess with jade: another council-race map with alien-looking architecture, with a similar playstyle to goddess: a couple of good spots to hold, bottlenecks to exploit, murderous open areas, chances for terrible objectives ; 3 - on gold collectors, no missiles allowed on wave 3, but missiles allowed on wave 8 - wave 8 is the only non-objective, double pretorians wave;4 - alternatively, switch from collectors to reapers as suggested already. Personally, I think changing faction would be the least desirable solution; however, I also never played on PS3, and if that's what it would take for more people to enjoy the challenges, I'd happily accept it and that's my two cents. IMO, option 1 should be a given, especially for Giant and Ghost Hazard. Option 2 will not work: Jade is as bad as Goddess, so if you have a Collector challenge that's on any of these maps, option 4 ( as loufi suggested) is definitely the better choice. Option 3 mitigates the problem on a team challenge (as you specified), but not on a solo, hence my AC suggestion. If you want to know exactly what PS3 players go through Supremocognito's guide. So Smehur , doh , Prestacious may I ask as keepers of the challenges what is your opinion?

Hamletic's Tales from the TrenchesWeek 14: EarthI. Big Bang(s)23:19 - x3lander | TheDoctor46N7Drellgod is, aside from my first love - the vanilla Alliance humans, my favorite kit, and I'm not too shabby with it. So you'd understand if I tell you that I went in this challenge expecting lots of fun and total domination. Game 1 - Devices(or was it Hack?!)/Targets/Targets, some 40 odd seconds away from the record time. Obviously, with some more decent objectives, say like pizza delivery by an Adrenaline III enhanced Drell, we could improve it. Since muahmuah had some lag issues, I restarted the game and prepared to smashroll the challenge with the glimmering hope of better objectives... Game 2 - Device/Devices/Devices - wave 10 wipe Game 3 - Hack/Devices -> x3lander rage nukes everything and suicides Game 4 - Devices/Hack/Devices and a new best time. F*ck you, game! p.s. We might have had one more failed attempt at a better time, that I have successfully repressed in my memory. What is certain, however, is that if it did happen, it had at least 2 times Devices...
