The way I see it, it will serve two main goals: 1. Tutorial with a high level character (an N7 trained soldier) that will explain why it can defeat foes with ease. 2. Serve as a homage or a bridge between the old trilogy and the new chapter. The father is an N7 soldier which is as close as we can get to Shepard in ME:A. Certainly valid but not something that I feel we really need. Mass Effect has always done well providing us with good tutorial levels. Plus I hate the "play the tutorial as a powerful character then start the actual game as a low level". Never made sense to me. If MEA is trying to stand on its own then we don't need nor should we want such a homage to the previous trilogy. I'm all for referencing the original trilogy but in more subtle ways. Maybe a short cameo would be cool but I don't need to play as an N7 character in the beginning to feel safe or something haha. It might also give us some exposition that we need at the beginning that would connect the time we leave to the time we wake up. I'm not against an opening like that as long as it is done well (obviously). I'm certainly against it. It just wouldn't feel right no matter how well it was done. I'm hoping MEA begins with a character creator and class setup and then bam!! right into the scene we saw in the trailer with SisterRyder saying "we made it". Then through careful story telling and possibly……possibly A flashback we discover when and why we left the Milky Way.

I wouldn't want this for Mass Effect. Dragon age is fine, but for ME I prefer the good old personal character plus 2 AI controlled squaddies.

If it doesn't disrupt the development of the primary character and it is completely optional to do the switch, I have no problem with it. This would limit the switching opportunities to more inconsequential side missions that wouldn't really develop the personality of the main character anyways (and it would not change the personality of the sibling... which would be developed in response to the personality of the main character). At any rate the player should still have the option to play all missions with their main character regardless of whether or not it's a mission that offers a switch. Why then have the option at all - ME:A will be a game where it's likely the siblings will have different skill talents... and it might be fun to be able to occasionally try out a small mission (of the player's choosing) using the sibling's talents instead of the main character without having to replay the entire game using the sibling as the main character.
I'm also OK with a "Joker" sequence or two (i.e. where the switch is forced)... but not too many of those, please.

Just NO, a thousand of them. This is about your Ryder, not the other and it will certainly undermine both of the character's development and scramble up the story line.
Telltale; mmm kay. But Bioware? NO.

Wonder if they'll Fallout 4 it... Well... the fact that the other sibling still "exists in the universe" means they won't "Fallout 4 it." Maybe they will with Mama Ryder and explain that whole dog tag thing (I'm assuming it's her dog tag), as others have suggested.

When we were told that we could play either a brother or a sister, I thought to myself, why not both? Wouldn't it be cool if we could switch between the two characters like in GTA V. It worked great there. What do you think? Would you prefer a fixed choice at the beginning or an option to switch? P.S. Sorry if this has been discussed before. tried searching for it but couldn't find anything about that... I guess the primary reason why it might not work is because there's character development to be had. Unlike with GTA which had completely pre-defined characters, we build our character as we play and trying to play two at once would actually be work unless there were entire sections dedicated to each character, as in the latest Assassin's Creed. While this might work for Dragon Age, if it gave it a go, i don't think ME would benefit from having two characters to develop instead of the one.

Maybe they will with Mama Ryder and explain that whole dog tag thing (I'm assuming it's her dog tag), as others have suggested. You're assuming "still exists" means "still alive". That may not necessarily be the case. Fallout 4's unchosen spouse also still existed.. for about 10 min. This method of character creation is pretty new and kinda cool. I expect others to imitate it. Though of course there is something to be said about keeping the unused alternative around as its own character. I don't think it's as immersion breaking as people think. I think if you do have two characters, whether you switch between them or just customize them and use one, there are still two things that can happen: -you still pick one internally and designate it your "main". You're more attached to that character than its counterpart so even though you switch, you treat the off-character as a temporary state (assuming they're playtime isn't equal or greater) -you treat the other as an alt, separate and uninfluenced from anything that happens here.

No thank you. Really do not want this at all. Its much easier to get invested in the main character and his/her relationships when only playing as one person (for me at least). GTA V is a great game, but not mainly for its story and character relationships. I did not mind playing as Ciri in W3, but that was because I dont care much for Geralt. I would have preferred to just have played as Ciri, whom I actually like.

I would like to switch between squad members, like we do in Dragon Age. But honestly I don't see that happening.
As for the siblings stuff, it would be nice to have your sibling as a permanent squadmate.

The prologue in Fallout 4 was very nice. Starting from the casual time before the bombs fell, and building the story towards the "present time" of the story (through the TV broadcast, the Vault Tec representative and so on...).
I would really like to see the same in Mass Effect Andromeda. Seeing how they selected which family would go on the Arks (but this would probably be explained in the upcoming book. What is going on with this anyway???), continuing with the Characters boarding the Ark and going in to the Cryo-sleeping chambers and then being awakened on arrival. Something along the lines of Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth Trailer.

Well, I think that we're not gonna hear much until N7 day or at least until after Titan Fall2 and Battlefield 1 launch. But that first week of November is gonna suuuuuuuuuuuck.

I just want the ability to manually control the different party members as well as more options for how the AI behaves.
It never ceases to baffle me how BioWARE incorporated the tactics screen in Origins to such a beautiful level and then immediately butchered it in the following games to the point that I didn't even bother with it anymore.
