Haven't seen a lot on the viability of the humangineer for Platinum but imo it's way up there, and is exchangeable with the Scrapper. Cryo beam has the same massive armor debuff, but with Snap Freeze (the evolution) or cryo trap tacked on and with an overall lower cooldown (since you basically never hold it the full duration). He trades the power damage of flak cannon for a massive 43% weapon damage boost with elemental tech + passives. A little more squishy I suppose.
I haven't seen much on this kit since Snap freezing on gold (imo the Snap Freeze evolution isn't great on plat), but I'm shocked this isn't referred to as a platinum staple.

Batarian has a 24% debuff that doesn't force your allies to run elemental ammo on top of having flak cannon.
Also, Flak cannon.
Did I mention Flak cannon?
Because Flak Cannon.

I guess not everyone's tired of pushing the Flak Cannon "win" button. HE's very powerful, but I guess because it takes skill and effort it sucks.

Had some plat runs with one in the team. Me playing BatScrap. Enemy armor got debuffed seriously but HumEng too squishy. Not much gain when he/she goes down all the time. (I must add though, that I was in bad shape, played like shit and I had to be revived all the time too.) For more objective information: Engineer guy performed well, I was 4th all the night then with 17k-ish points. Maybe if I were playing better, stronger, the Engineer could have been utilized more. For my defense: I do more points on Gold, sometimes I just can't handle platinum.

Batarian has more base shields, better defensive passive, better offensive passive, concussive shot at 1 is superior to turret at 1, snap freeze is better than cryo beam, and flack cannon is better than overload against anything that isn't a destroyer, and even then it's debatable.
What is the HE good for when his staple power isn't good enough, If you replaced cryo beam with snap freeze he would be a better character, competitive with the scrapper even.

These are really two separate questions.
(1) Is the HE better than the Scrapper? No.
(2) Is a well-played HE excellent on Plat? Yes.
Nothing else in the game compares favorably to the Scrapper in terms of Plat utility. The Scrapper is peerless due to his massive armor debuff and ability to deal massive damage independent of his team. But only using one character gets really boring really fast, and the Scrapper is approaching Avenger/Huntress-level oversaturation in Plat PUGs.

I wish that Cryo Beam were Cryo Blast instead, a projectile power that didn't require channeling, but worked exactly the same way complete with OP armor debuff.

I haven't played a lot of platinum, but had one game (and only one) with an HE while I was tanking with the Duelist. I can't remember who he was (PUG match with a friend), but he was amazing. That debuff made my life a lot easier. I personally haven't had the nerve to try the HE on platinum.

Eh?
There is *more* armor on Platinum which means that a character who can debuff armor is *more* effective, or technically just as effective but more often.

I wish that Cryo Beam were Cryo Blast instead Agreed. It doesn't really make sense for a squishy character to have a power which makes him so exposed in order to use it properly. Also, it would make the power unique.

Perhaps my most used platinum character.
Reasons many folks do not bring the humengineer
1) Squishiness: However, it can get fixed with shield reset (6a), multicapacitor equipment and proper use of the turret (it has to be used as a decoy at times). 2)Turret Off-Host Issues: The turret only works right if you're hosting and they still have not fixed it. When you're hosting, don't forget you also have the cryoturret's massive armor debuff (in addition to cryobeam's debuffs) 3) Requires you to GIT GUT: Not as easy/dumb as playing the angara avenger.
Platinum build I run, 1 (overload) 6 ( Cryobeam w/max brittle freeze and cryotrap) 6 (Turret with recharge speed, omni-link, cryoturret) 6 (offensive tech with damage/duraton, anti-armor, elemental tech 6 (support systems with tech radius, advanced construction, shield reset)
Edit: I also spec into tech sabotage at times. Survivability seems more or less equal with tech sabotage or shield reset. If anyone here has experimented with both on platinum, feel free to comment.

I wish that Cryo Beam were Cryo Blast instead, a projectile power that didn't require channeling, but worked exactly the same way complete with OP armor debuff. ME3's cryoblast was luvly. However, cryo beam applies the full armor debuff in somewhere between 1.5 and 2 secs...Not very long, you don't have to hold it forever/ever and get shot in the face. Can be worked with.

A lot of people seem inexplicably to have forgotten how soft cover / right-hand advantage works between ME3 and MEA. Especially ironic, since it's now an ambidextrous advantage. If you stand in the open, you're going to die on Plat, but Cryo Beam doesn't require that.

He's pretty good against Kett. But Outlaws? Not so much. He's a god on Gold because of mook composition, but only rather effective against Kett on Platinum. He's excellent against all factions because of overload. And cryo beam helps against all armor so great against outlaw as well. The most slept on kit would be the kineticist I think, closely followed by the gladiator.

Does the Cryo Beam actually respect RHA or LHA? It always seemed like it was coming out of the center of character model to me regardless of which handedness I was using.
