Judging by the save dates, Lavone was the first who finished the game and was the third or second Quizzy created. 98 hours and 30 minutes. Difficulty Hard. All areas opened. Skipped the dragon part of Emprise du Lion and most of the hidden items in the Exalted Plains. Skipped some minor item quests in the other areas. Think she got all the Astrariums. 28 bottles out of 29. Killed 4 dragons out of 10. Completed the Sacrifice Mosaic and missing one or two from the other sets. Missing 9 shards to fully open the Temple. 20 out of 21 songs collected. Missing bunch of furniture. All companion quests done. Looks fairly decent. Her final-final saves with all DLC was 124 hours and 15 minutes.

What's all this nonsense about skipping the Emerald Graves? That's one region I'd never skip. I love that region. I'm actually in the midst of the Emerald Graves with my current Inquisitor. I have all of the initial quests south of the river completed, so the "serious bidness" up north is about to go down. Dude, I didn't know! It was my first run. And I wasn't on any boards at the time. Completely clueless. But, that said, I'm glad that's the one I accidentally picked to save for my second run. It's probably the meatiest of the purely optional maps, with the whole Fairbanks/Freeman quest chain, Chateau d'Onterre, Din'an Hanin dungeon crawl, etc., etc. I'm also glad I didn't pick the Xanax Plains or the Hissing Wastes to save, because I would have been let down.

I have no idea how so many of you are getting 100+ hour playthroughs. I dilly dallied like crazy, completed all the DLC, and still only had around ~79 hours by the time I completed Trespasser. Remove JoH (which completely bored me and probably added a considerable amount of time spent alt-tabbed), Descent, Trespasser, and we're talking about an easy 50 hours needed to complete the main game. Are you guys literally just reading everything and spending hours collecting nirnroot? ^ I wonder the same thing. My first playthrough was about 60 hours but I missed a lot (I always do on my first run). This is part of my motivation for doing the poll. I hear a lot of claims at the extreme ends of the range, not much in the middle. There are those that swear that you can't possibly get more than 40 hours out of the main game, and closer to 20 hours typically. While I know I spend at least 20 hours just in Skyhold, most of that time in the Undercroft, or farming for the mats to use in the Undercroft. Since I'm using the elapsed time on the save files for my claims, I'm probably understating my actual experience time by a significant fraction. Because I save before a major dialogue section and reload to try every possible option. None of that gets recorded in the canon save. I also like to replay boss battles immediately, usually do those at least 3 times, but again, not recorded. What does get recorded, though, is: farming and crafting time, talking to everyone at Haven/Skyhold -- and I mean everyone, including Dagna and Scout Harding, a good chunk of time framing and taking screenshots and videos, time reading Codex entries -- though I wasn't completionist about that on my first run, a lot of time back-tracking or getting lost -- I don't know how many times I went on shopping trips to Val Royeaux or Crestwood only to realize I forgot to buy something critical once I got back to Skyhold. But probably the single largest chunk of non-quest time was simply exploring. Like Hrungr said, I just liked to walk around and look at shit. Or even better, climb on shit. I covered every square inch of the Hinterlands (except the Fereldan Frostback's valley, I wasn't insane) before progressing the main quest. Usually a mistake that is the source of the "DAI is boring and 100% filler" complaints, but not for me. I enjoyed every minute of it, and I wasn't doing any fetch quests while I was exploring. If the map showed a darkened area, that's where I headed. Those were the only quest markers I needed. BTW, this is why I love the map that 99% of people hate, the Forbidden Oasis. That place was like Disneyland to me.

Same here. I'll go back to the Hissing Wastes after finishing all the quests there because I'm missing 2 notes or I haven't found the Chantry sister all 4 times yet. Even in my 10th game, there were still things I was finding for the first time (like the loot on the other side of the broken bridge in the intro). Plus a little OOB exploring to get loot that should be gettable but isn't; 30 minutes to an hour jumping on my mount trying to get that damn pot of gold above the final camp in Western Approach. Oh, and crafting, and re-crafting, and tinting, and then starting over because whoops! I already have one of those.
Stupid stuff sometimes, but if I didn't enjoy it, I wouldn't do it.
Oh, and let's not forget harlequin tag and fireworks in Trespasser. I'm sure I've wasted plenty an hour there too.

Oh, and let's not forget harlequin tag and fireworks in Trespasser. I'm sure I've wasted plenty an hour there too. I have to make sure I score an 80+ on fireworks this time, as I want that Chromatic Greatsword Schematic. I've been itching to try a Trevelyan Two-handed Warrior for my next game, and I need that schematic. My first time through Trespasser, I lost patience after the 10th time I scored 78 points. I told myself I should stick it out, but I really wanted to move on with the story, since it was my first time playing the DLC. It ended up not being a big deal. I'll get it this time. I spooked at least three harlequins before deciding they were clearly significant, and looking them up online. In trying to sneak up on them, I was trying to be slow and quiet, Assasin's Creed style. I finally realized that there was a proximity-based timer, and that my slow approach was not working. I also decided that I didn't care for Harlequin Tag. Maybe next time, now that I realize how easy it actually is, and I'm actually playing a Dex-based character.

Me - I'm also happy just exploring, I don't even need a good reason as long as the environments are interesting. I'd say decent chunk of my total play time is just exploring OOB...

If you will forgive me chming in on this I love the Exalted Plains and Hissing Wastes to death...people hate these maps...I don't know why. The only region I never cared for was the Exalted Plains, and that's because all those weathered, wooden fortifications just makes my mouth dry in a way I can't explain. Maybe because I've explored dried-out husks of places like that when I was a kid... All I see are so many wooden slivers just waiting to happen.

If you will forgive me chming in on this I love the Exalted Plains and Hissing Wastes to death...people hate these maps...I don't know why. Xanax Plains -- because they make me anxious. Partly (in large part) because of the environmental audio. It's like fingernails on chalkboard to me. And the lighting. It's brash and irritating, makes my eyes hurt. And the wolf packs. And the terrain that's difficult to traverse. Totally appropriate to the mood of the wartorn land, I know, but what can I say? Not my cup of tea. I will give a nod to the high points of the map: Citadelle du Corbeau, the entire Ghilan'nain's Grove area, tomb raiding on the Dalish side of the map, and of course the excellent farming of various useful mats. The Hissing Wastes are great the first time, very romantic desert nightscapes. But after the first time, it's just too much nothing, just like Sera says. Even on a mount, it's a drag to reopen all the camps, and even with all the camps, getting anywhere takes forever. It's a mostly blank canvas waiting for meatier content. Again, a nod to the Hissing Wastes for some great farming opportunities and the Canyon Market, but other than that, I don't bother with it any more.

99.26 hours apparently. Missed most of the Hissing Wastes as he only went there for the Canyon Market. Didn't do all of the Exalted Plains, didn't pick up many shards (I still don't). Missed some of Emprise du Lion, but I can't remember how much, certainly didn't do the Cradle of Suleivin or anything across the bridge. Only killed 2 dragons - Hinterlands and Emerald Graves. Didn't do Bull's quest, but I think I did all the others.
Of the areas the most disliked is definitely the Exalted Plains. I could cope with one trench system, but four is too many. To make it worse, my favourite specialisation is Champion so I have to go there whenever I play that build.

I found the Plains aren't as bad if I explore everywhere except the ramparts, and then come back to do those when I'm uberpowered and full of fire weapons. I especially like being able to take out the Arcane Horrors with ranged attacks. The toughest mini-boss is that Gideon....no, wait....Gordian guy, since he has a supercharged barrier and likes to teleport.

I hated the ramparts the first time I played, but now they are no problem at all. I just stay up high and look for the charnel pits. Once the pits are burned, I move on toward my next goal. I like the plains just fine, now. There is actually a pretty good story being told there, if it's tackled in the right order and fashion. I definitely wasn't a fan the first time, though.

I did only the side things I could do, and this was back when there wasn't much information on the quests for reading up.

I took over 200 hours to finish my first game. I'm a completionist and never leave anything out. Over time, because I have a much better idea of where things are and what I'm doing and want to do, even with the DLCs, I don't take that long but I still do take 150 hours to complete each game. I just have too much fun doing things in the games to want to cut parts out. I have taken longs breaks from the game though, because of things that need to be done in RL so it's not like I'm playing the game every single day of my life. edited to add: I've wasted way too much time on the Harlequins and have never completed them even though I'm a completionist on just about everything else. With the Harlequins, I've learned that there has to be a point where continuing to try to get them is not worth it for me. I just pretend that they don't even exist because I don't think I'm ever going to get them.
