I had never played with the Valiant before yesterday (bit of a story... we're moving Mass Effect 3 onto the Xbox One from the Xbox 360 and was able to download the Collectors Edition perks through my son's account... something I missed doing on the Xbox 360 when he gave me the discs). My go to SR has been the Indra, followed by the Black Widow (but that one is really heavy). But oh this Valiant has some punch and some speed and is a fraction of the weight of the Black Widow... I think I have a new favorite SR.

Name: Isaac Shepard Class: Infiltrator Weapon: Black Widow rifle. Mods: Extended Barrel (Enhanced Scope) + Extra Ammo
While it's heavy and has less ammo, it is my favorite of the sniper rifles because of its damage amongst other things. I prefer to make each shot count so the low ammo don't bother me and it's the only weapon I typically carry so the weight don't bother me either. I prefer long ranged combat in the Mass Effect series because it allows me a better view of the battlefield and an easier way of deploying abilities as well as keeping track of my enemies. I also do not like to have to devote more than a single shot to each mook so I like using a rifle that can one-shot such enemies with one carefully aimed headshot.
It's all a matter of preference.

Azelia Shepard, Infiltrator Javelin with High Velocity Barrel & Piercing Mod for max penetration
Because Infiltrators don't care about cooldown, and ammo is never an issue because bad guys carry it in excess.

So far (and, admittedly, I'm still early game - Mars), the Valiant is one-shotting everything, including the Centurians with shields (other than when I miss the mail slot on the Guardians). I will upgrade it to Level V and put a Level V piercing mod and Level V extended barrel on it by end game. Does it still one-shot most mooks?

I do recall picking up the Valiant for a time but whatever reason I had for putting it down again I unfortunately cannot remember. I'm afraid I cannot be much help for you regarding that. If you feel it suits you and deals the damage you want, I'd say keep with it until you might feel otherwise.

Damn I remember the Valiant being awesome but not that awesome. Wow. The Valiant was one of the weapons that got me the most praise from ME 3 MP when someone said basically 'I wish I had that gun'. I view it as a combat sniper rifle something that you can use down range but can also use fairly well up close and personal. Unlock the BW/ Widow/ Krysae which is somehting you wanna keep at range.

Oh, I've used both the Black Widow (lots) and the Krysae (a little bit). I like them, particularly as you say, at long range... but the weight factor just kills. Because it's so light and quick, the Indra has been my go to combat SR for a lot of the missions int he game since most of them involve for close in stuff than long-range sniping and by carrying just it and a light SMG, I could get to +200% cooldowns. I don't think the Valiant will totally replace the Black Widow (that is, I'll still switch to it for some of the missions); but I really think the Indra is going to be collecting a lot more dust in the Weapons Locker now. We'll have to see what the weight is like after I get it up to a Level V (or Level X in an NG+).
