@op NO. Just no! You can't role-play in an MMO. Dragon Age games are about role-playing - not about being yet another iteration of the tired MMO genre. You can RP in a MMO. You can RP without any game, tbh, so it is a strange statement to begin with. But a MMO also gives you more venues to RP, not only offering you quest choices, but ample resources to chose what your character carrier is (for example in SWTOR he could be an ace pilot or a war veteran fighting in the thick of it or more of an adventurer going on quests with his friends), and running this character for a more prolonged period of time than any character in a SP game. My characters in SWTOR were certainly way more "mine" from the RP perspective than the Inquisitor or Hawke. MMO also allows you to enact a role imo more successfully as a tank or a healer. The interactions and reactions from other players during combat when playing these two roles are different than in SP, even if you play with a party-based game. It really makes you feel like a healer, because you are saving lives with your magic and skill... well, of avatars, lol. And when someone tells your avatar 'Thanks for saving me" that's like awesome And there are some folks that can actually free-form RP with friends in a MMO, which you would not get in an SP. I do not do that, but once in a while I had small spontaneous RP moments when playing with other folks "in character". Anyway, the problems with the MMO genre is not with the games themselves, it's with the dregs of the humanity, and, well, our growing inability to tolerate other peeps due to how our civilization departed from the communal living to the extreme individual isolation. The on-line world simulates the communal living, and we are no longer equipped to deal with it. IMO, people would be way more opened to the MP games if there was a way to oust the crude loudmouthed a-holes that make life miserable for everyone around them wherever they are. You would not want to be in a room or on a bus with them either...

However you don't need to be a 'loudmouthed @sshole' to dislike the company of others. I personally play games to escape the real world and its throngs of worthless humans - not to be mired in more of them in the virtual worlds I visit. I suppose it depends on one's own temperament when all is said and done. In any case, we might all be left in the lurch with Dragon Age since I have a growing sentiment that Bioware might not survive 'till the next installment should Anthem fail.

I had my best and my worst gaming moments with playing MP titles. It owed to people I played with. Awesome peeps made MP awesome, a-holes made MP terrible. Playing MP with awesome peeps is more fulfilling than the SP gaming to me, despite my love of the SP games. Story-wise, certainly, the SP portions shine -and Swtor and ME provide it in oodles- but when it comes to living your character’s career and expressing their personality in and through combat role and behavoir, and the sense of camaraderie and adventure, MP is miles ahead. If and only if peeps you are playing with are cool beans (and that includes random strangers)

You would not want to be in a room or on a bus with them either... I agree with you there. If you were able to do that, you would have very few left to play the game with and in MP games with group content you need others to play. If they took the competitive nature out of the MP game it might not be as bad, but what you see if what you get with this generation of gamers.

I just wish Bioware would state any intention regarding the Dragon Age franchise. If it becomes multiplay I can move on from Bioware in toto. I have enjoyed playing Bioware games and really would want to know if lingering on hoping for a continuation of an other instalment of the DA verse makes sense.
I hope for Bioware their online efforts are succesful but I don't give a jolt and frankly I would not be surprised if SP is completly scrubbed by EA. I feel MP is simply pushed down everyones throates by the big publishers.

Well, yeah, but that doesn't necessarily mean much for the single-player content. Dragon Age already has a multiplayer component that can be safely ignored. and for all we know the next game will be the same. I have played DAI for upwards of eight hundred hours at this point and never touched the multiplayer, and all I'm missing is some tacky statues. Would be nice though if it had a better MP. If it can be safely ignored, it gotta be stellar. Otherwise nobody is going to play it. Like the DAI one, 'cause seriously, who cares about some silly deco. Then, again, the whole of DAI is uninspiring anyway. Honestly, anything will be an improvement on DAI, MP or SP imo... Just a really weak game all around. I thought your were majestic jizz for a second. I was gearing up for an angry retort. But I respect your opinion, so retort swallowed

You've elaborated our dislike for it, but you've also posted enough NON hate that I can accept that it's just different tastes and not trouble making. Unlike Jizz. I'm particularly glad you like DA2 so much. The one everyone proclaimed o be the worst.

And I prefer to talk to people that feel that same way, rather than with those who share my every opinion on every game. I do try to charge up from the positive folks and see what they see. Sometimes it is not going to happen, but I don’t think it is all that often, and I am glad that it is not. The day I play a videogame to complain more about it... heh. That would be the day to change my hobby.

EA is getting beat up with BF2 right now. I laughed when EA's attempt at appeasing the fanbase resulted in the most downvoted comment in Reddit's history xD. I mean, I defended the practice of microtransactions (I think, or it could have been something similar, my memory is a little dodgy) in a thread in the ME:A forum as I honestly believe games are too cheap to fund expensive AAA development (I probably play more Indie games these days anyway) but EA's attempt to rationalise locking certain heroes behind a paywall (or suffer insane grind) by using phrases like "sense of pride and accomplishment" just insults people's intelligence. People aren't stupid and they don't want to be treated as if they are, so ... not a good way to try and calm down a frothing mob, lol. The "armchair developers" comment on Twitter didn't help either. A bit of a clusterfuck 0.0 That being said I'm wondering whether to get Battlefront 2. I never played the original but I'm a huge Star Wars fan, microtransactions don't really bother me too much, and the lure of lightsaber combat is quite strong.
