Anyone have any movie recommendations with themes or visuals similar to the game to get one in the mood? I'm not a huge movie buff, and it also isn't the period I'm most familiar with. All I have is various adaptations of the Three Musketeers and some court dramas which don't exactly feature the exploration aspect. And are a bit heavy on manchild kings getting cuckolded by their advisers. Not a movie but just saw this trailer for a new Amazon Prime show that seems to have a similar vibe if a different setting: Looks good, think I'll watch it.

Order placed. First game I've preordered since Horizon Zero Dawn, and for the same reason. Too cool and unique to pass up. Think I might start doing it more often, after my last salary bump. Obviously there's no practical reason not to just wait until a game has been wetted by the internet complaining machine. But paying for it beforehand disposes you to go into it with a glass-half-full mentality*, and turns the actual release date from a risky and slightly bitter investment day into a small Christmas. And it hearkens back to the good old days when you saw a game in the store and bought it because it looked promising on the cover and then took it home to damn well enjoy it however much it deserved of your time, not having a thousand rabid and stuffy online reviewers to compulsively check in with before daring to touch it. Also can't speak for the rest of you, but I'm not a child. I've gone through a hell of a lot worse disappointments than finding a video game I was looking forward to to be mediocre, and am fairly sure I'll survive the trauma again. Might as well allow yourself to be excited. *God I hate that expression. A glass is half-empty if it was last in the process of being drained, and half-full if it was last in the process of being filled. It's not that fucking complicated. See a random glass that isn't full? Unless the bartender is a cheap bastard and doesn't like having customers then it's probably half-empty, and trying to use it as a metaphor for drunken optimism just makes you a douchebag too pretentious to drink with ever again. Not a movie but just saw this trailer for a new Amazon Prime show that seems to have a similar vibe if a different setting: Looks good, think I'll watch it. Huh. That one's flown way under my radar. And it just aired yesterday. Might check it out. Thanks for the tip, there's an obvious thematic resemblance. Good catch.

I think IGN might've posted a seperate gameplay video with them playing the game and showing it off and man this does look impressive. Pros: I rather like the HZD/ DAI/ ACO/ TW 3 vibe I am getting from the game... The hunting and sneaking around and doing all sorts of other stuff really whets the appetite. I just fear that I going to be all. "ARGH" and instead of negotating these complicated tactical options I'll just run into the fray randomly swinging my sword. I really like the sound of being able to actually have different paths through quests. Now this might be a bit tough on them and might be misremembering but it seems of late that Bios formulae has been do quest...have one final choice at the end. I want to be able to actually get to that ending choice in different ways though again I stress this might be unfair...and at least when it comes to Andromeda I still enjoyed its side quests. But yes, if done right it would be so neat to have the ability to solve quests and things in different ways...even if they never occur to me. Cons: I am getting the slight warning bell that this just might be a repeat of HZD from an RP perspective. While I wasn't paying CLOSE attention it just does not seem like they are doing a lot of different dialogue choices and dialogue seems fairly...linear...so far. Maybe understandable from a new studio with limited manpower/ resources but if you are going to stick the sainted 'RPG' label on your games then I would prefer it if you gave me the ability to actually Role Play, especially in cutscene conversations.

You are welcome and like you I just don't get the "outrage" these days when something doesn't live up to expectations especially in regards to a video game FFS!!!! Re Carnival Row it reminds me of a Tad Williams book called "Shadow March" from what I have seen in the trailer. Re your glass half full analogy saw this on the internet a while ago:

I don't know if anyone knows this, but there is a twitch streamer who has gotten access to the full game and he has been playing and uploading hours of this game on his twitch channel. So if you would like to see a bunch of game play of greedfall here is the link: Twitch There is so much spoiler material here. So if you don't want any spoilers I suggest not watching any of the videos.

I'm seeing battle mechanics that remind me of Witcher but definitely more magic involved. In the middle of the Tutorial Battle, so a lot of running around cuz the player doesn't have a handle of the strategy yet, so nothing immediately impressive. The one "scene" I've seen so far had auto dialogue. 26 minutes in --- 29 minutes in, there is a dialogue choice. The camera is closer than Dragon Age, and the player hasn't had to use Tac Cam yet, so have yet to see the comparison I saw on Reddit yesterday that it has a similar Tac cam as DAI. ---- Minute 34: woooow. An item hand off you get to witness the fine motor movements of. color me impressed. ---- 38 minutes: Clicking on things cuts off the dialogue of your companion. ----- 45 minutes more auto dialogue. Good voice acting so far, though, the mouths seem a bit silly sometimes.

Personally his techno music was getting on my nerves and I was unable to get through 10min. I just thought it could be helpful to people still looking for information. As for myself, I'm still going to wait for reviews and more footage without annoying techno music lol. Like I said before, this game does remind me a lot of Origins and I'm excited, but it's being made by Spiders. A developer who's past games were not my cup of tea.

Cont watching of the Twitch FeedMy opinion is that I don't consider this to have any story spoilers. 50 minutes in: PC: "Need to leave --on the hour--" NPC; "Can you take care of this group before you go?"
Me: LOL ya, I got an hour to handle this group. That'll totally happen in the time constraints, not going to be late at all. Just silly choice of words. ---- 58 minutes Finally! some RP: Two kinds of threaten, one of which is based off of an attribute, a bribe based off of an "attribute", and a "leave". I guess while you consider other options? ----- 61 minutes Neat! you can click on a follower to talk while they are in party, at least in town. First thing to really remind me of Dragon Age yet.

Cont watching of the Twitch FeedMy opinion is that I don't consider this to have any story spoilers. 71 minutes Climbables are marked with white paint, this speaks to my memory of Horizon Zero Dawn which apparently snatched it from tomb raider. Doors that can be opened have icons on them that I consider too large; and should have disappeared as you went through them. Walking through an icon is a bit meh. I haven't seen any ability to jump without the prompts, like the white paint.
73 minutes Doesn't appear that you can smash a door open in spite of having magic punches/energy balls. no prompt to attempt to unlock using any sort of rogue skills either.
80 minutes a death brought his PC to the area of just before he entered the area of battle. As I mentioned in another comment, parry seems important, at least in the beginning and depending on how you base classed.
(HAHA, my hubs is mentioning that he keeps mentioning Dragon Age in spite of it not being like Dragon Age very much, because the Devs are paying the player to try to appeal to bioware fans. )
83 minutes A Chase option that is nothing like Witcher. (Witcher having running and horse riding, but Greedfall not).... meh. (this is so not a deal breaker, but they seem to be mimicking Witcher a lot.)
88 minutes a chest you need a lockpicking skill to open
90 minutes Player states that one can reset skills with a memory crystal. good.
100 minutes Another RP choice; two options this time.

Cont: My opinion is that I don't consider this to have any story spoilers. Hr49 min Another RP choice, two options hr52 min The twitch watchers tell the player to turn off his damn techno music 10k hr56 min Not exactly an RP choice. Can resolve a request via money or a skill. hr59 it's implying you can: Negotiate and/or pay out of the situation, sneak in and do the thing, or go in fighting. 2hr3min to 2hr23min Streamer is going over skill/attribute/Talent Tree options 2hr23min to 2hr26 Streamer looking at his items. 2hr26 not digging the Energy Ball attacks, aren't very entertaining as a spam option. But we learn that if you leave the battle area, the aggro drops off and they don't follow. But it does look like they heal back up, so it's not exactly a cheat option. 2hr30min It becomes increasingly obvious that all of your relatives are really bio related to your mom's side of the family (as seen in trailers so far), as they are all very white pasty folk. This is not affected by choosing to be a Black PC. So no Andromeda or DA2 family skin tone changes.

Stairs that have been walked have the surface interrupted as a rule. The Streamer has changed his mind as it goes on. He keeps mentioning "remnant" which I've never played, and Dragon's Dogma. AS far as I can tell, he only mentioned Dragon Age as some sort of word replacement for "you have companions, yo." But then he should just say Bioware, not Dragon Age. And it's not like all the prior Spiders games didn't have companions, so it's not even like that should be "bioware like" in and of itself.

Cont: My opinion is that I don't consider this to have any story spoilers. 2Hr35min You are allowed to leave Tutorial City without completing all side quests. But it implies you will not be allowed back. Even saying you're ready to leave, it still allows you to wander off and finish the side quests if you still want to before you physically move PC to the leaving zone.
2Hr45min
I like the motions of what PC attacks in this battle, they seem unique to it's anatomy, but it seems too easy and simplistic to beat it. PC died, and it brought his PC to before the Scene, so you could choose to go level up more or get better armor. Which streamer now takes an opportunity to do.
Overall, money hasn't seemed to be a stresser, but I haven't seen him shopping a lot either.

Just wondering if the play by plays should be in spoiler tags for people who don't want to accidentally see something they consider spoilery?
I've been skipping them myself for that very reason.

Nothing I'm writing has story in it. I thought spoiler tags were for story. I'm not mentioning companions, dialogue, who the bad guys are, factions, the details of the quests, even the name of the town or the PC. "white paint marks where someone can climb" "NPC asks me to find Group." I added spoiler tags to be polite.

I usually don't give a damn about spoilers. If you go on the internet to discuss a game or movie that's out, spoilers are what you get.
That said, subjectively written transcripts of some weirdo somewhere playing a game we're all still waiting to legally get our hands on, of all things, seems like a really silly and screwy way to get started with it.
So, grateful for the spoiler tags as a matter of common courtesy. Maybe a new thread could be made for this purpose so you guys could discuss it as much as you want to without having to think about the rest of us, at least until the 10th?

I suppose I don't see it that way . My last new game purchase was AC: Odyssey and I disliked the game the longer I played it. I told myself I'd make sure to watch a couple of hours of the next game I thought I wanted to make sure not to waste $60 again. That this guy started streaming before release was just randomly convenient. Why I was hyped about the game was the role playing chances, how often these opportunities come up is relevant. I thought other people were similarly hyped for the roleplaying chances, so would want to know if RP chances are high. Some people hate auto dialogue with such a passion that they'd hate this game on that alone. anywho, I heard folks, I spoiler'd myself, and asked colfoley to spoiler me with his replies/quotes of me as well. I am pretty bored of watching a streamer anyway at this point and plan to make no further comment
In other news, I'm less excited about the game than I was. Pre Order urges gone, will pick it up the Friday after release.

You don't have to come with a bunch of explanations. It's totally understandable why you'd want to check it out now that you have the chance. But yeah, hearing about the game in detail third-hand from someone who watched a streamer play it - just about the least appealing way to greet a new game I can imagine, without having seen the guy's videos for myself - really isn't an organic way to experience a product. Thank you for sparing us. Being able to micromanage conversations is always nice, but I've certainly never seen it as a requirement for being able to enjoy a game. Horizon Zero Dawn only has a handful of RP moments, similarly hours apart unless you rush through the game. But even the shallow ones still feel telling and meaningful, and help enrich the narrative.

Personally I feel I have to pop in to say I appreciate the play-by-play, it helps my perspective. Fine that its in spoiler tags though.

RE: the spoiler stuff - not that there was much in the way of spoilers in what phoray was posting, given the interest this title seems to be generating around the traps, we thought we might trial a...loosening of the "one thread per game/series" rule we have in this subforum. We don't think the level of interest/anticipation is at the stage of needing it's own subforum - yet - but having two Greedfall threads, this one - for general chatter and news, and a spoiler thread - in the vein of "What did you do today in Greedfall" - seems like an easy to manage middle ground. If someone who is definitely getting the game wants to make it, they can feel free. Alternatively, if needed - I will make on Sunday night (my time) so it is ready for whomever wishes to post. Thanks.
