Any info on whether it requires CPU support for Intel’s SSE 4 (“Streaming SIMD Extensions 4”) instruction set, version 4.1 or higher?

Bit of DA2 about it as well and that was one of my favourite parts of DA2!!

Not moving - since there seems to be a fair bit of interest in this title, and given that it is "story heavy" we thought having a spoiler thread for screenshots/videos/quest discussion separate from this 'general chatter' thread might be a good idea.

Well, it's the same engine they used previously. Unless they made some really big updates, if you could run Technomancer - then you can run this as well. Spiders are not a developer to push technical boundaries and the game system requirements are pretty low on both ends - it's all 5+ years old tech. It's understandable since they put their bets on the gameplay and RPG elements and want to reach even people with old budget PCs.

Of course it might be safe to wait a few days after launch and see if the game runs without SSE 4. Also - it's not a bad time to get a new CPU  AMD is back on the CPU scene with some good offerings and the prices are good for both AMD and Intel, even on some of their upper tier offerings. But yeah, you will also need a mobo and RAM. It's also a good time to get RAM, the prices finally dropped from their crazy levels.

Some of the firearms in question actually look closer to the mid-19th century, if anything, so I wouldn't worry too much. I'm pretty sure I've spotted at least two different repeaters in the pile. And even the flintlock guns are never going to be half as slow and awkward as they were historically. A pure firearms build should definitely be viable, and I have half a mind to go that route out of pure nostalgia for Fable 2.

But you're right, roleplaying-wise. Relying entirely on the period's firearms for self-defense would have been most unwise.

Petrus is the one I'm looking most forward to meeting. He has that "if you feel so, master Wayne" air about him, and I like that he's both a man of God and a man of the world, with diplomatic training and personal ambitions who will tell you if he thinks you're being reckless. That's a hell of a mentor figure for a budding young imperialist looking to make it in the New World.

I have a feeling Kurt is going to be useful as a crutch in the early game, while you're still figuring out the combat and haven't made a lot of connections yet. Might change him out for Siora a little later on, if it's possible to have civil conversations with and get to know her without having to prostrate yourself in the defense of the poor poor locals at every turn.   She also seems to have that sickness, so hopefully her motivations for teaming up with you are deeper and more interesting than just trying to badger and guilt-trip you into going native.

Might pay more attention to Vasco on a future female PC playthrough. He strikes me as mainly there to be the edgy mysterious love interest. But yeah, seventeenth-century sailors were no joke. I bet he drinks his coffee scalding hot.  Wouldn't be hard to fall for him, all alone at sea for days on end with little better to do than enjoy the sight of steely men in uniforms, going about their business. Rawr.
