A post has been moved for attempting to continue the discussion about race in Dragon Age - in the Greedfall thread. Take that conversation elsewhere. Thanks. (Moves more posts) What DragonKingReborn said.

I get to play the game Monday! ...if I can preload it in time... Edit: Reviews are supposed to come out at the Steam unlock time too (From what I understood of the Focus representative).

Cautious optimism. I had fun with Bound by Flame, limited though it was. Greedfall promises to be a lot better.

Really hope the history of Teer Fradee's natives is explored, beyond just "we were here first and were having a great time until you showed up".
A mystery about how how in the hell these people who look so much like Europeans made it to this island before shipbuilding or navigation was anywhere near there, developed a language like nothing heard anywhere else and learned incredible magics would be a nice touch.
There's supposed to be different factions even among them, right?

There's supposed to be different factions even among them, right? There supposed to be at least two sub-group among the natives, but they seems to be split into multiple clans as well. We don't know how far away Teer Fradee is from the "main continent". It was most probably settled during a migration waves, which pre-date the "Age of Exploration" by centuries or thousands of years depending on the distance (like how the (now) British Isles were settled by what became the Celts). If we look at the Polynesians ethnic groups, they started seafaring 3,400 years ago and settled the islands in "Oceania/Pacific" over time in various migration waves until they reached Hawaii (first wave reached it around 300 CE). There is nothing special about an isolated group developing their own language over time, that's how languages evolved on Earth.

I thought the game was not set on Earth? How would there be Europeans anywhere? Caucasians. Continentals. Mainlanders. Old Worlders. Serenians. De Sarlet's people? However you want to think about them, until the game is out and the in-universe terminology becomes more clear. Amhra is clearly black. So obviously people having evolved different skin colors over the ages is a thing in this world too. Begging the question of why people who look virtually identical to the "French" but with no other recognizably "European" cultural artifacts are suddenly found on an island nobody has presumably sailed to in recorded history. There should be an interesting story there, and it'd be silly for the writers to have made such an unusual choice with the natives' ancestry and not explore it. At least, that's my thought based on the natives' appearance in the trailers. At some point I think they were being referred to as elves, but I see round ears and entirely recognizably human facial structures, so it seems they didn't go that route. There supposed to be at least two sub-group among the natives, but they seems to be split into multiple clans as well. We don't know how far away Teer Fradee is from the "main continent". There is nothing special about an isolated group developing their own language over time, that's how languages evolved on Earth. Obviously, yeah, but when, how and why? There's no way a nation as advanced as De Sarlet's wouldn't have known of a huge magical island drifting just off their shores until now. I wanna know the specific history there.

I think the "elves" was just to say they weren't fully humans and closer to nature. They still have horns and we have seen one with wings in a trailer. In fact, since seeing the one with wings, I consider them to be same species as Maleficent until being proved otherwise...

The woman in the teaser looked so other worldly, especially when she laughed. Now they're just humans with slightly different magic from the other humans. Cuz originally I didn't think the protagonist would have access to magic themselves

She seems important to the story, but it is unclear what she is exactly. Also, I can't stop staring at your avatar because Fizzgig is awesome!

I'm really excited, I hope it'll keep me busy for the next month or so. Thankfully it's not a really hyped game so I can browse the internet without too much spoilers, too.

ACG's latest Twitch podcast where he talks about Greedfall. The cliff notes: - Easily the most polished game Spiders have done by a large margin. Issues with grammar to be fixed in patch.
- One of the coolest armour systems ever. You can see upgrades/changes to your armour like in Skyrim/TW3. Other characters can apparently upgrade their armour too. Lots of materials. Can't dye.
- Huge number of skills. Can't overlay them with a different class (what I take it to mean that once you pick a class you're stuck with it).
- Lots of ways to do quests. He gives the example of a guy he chose to talk to instead of outright murder, with an interesting result.
- You can wear disguises to infiltrate factions, but it's possible they may spot you even so.
- If you're skilled enough (at whatever discipline is required), you can craft quest items.
- Movement is similar to TW3. He hasn't spotted any of the jank from previous Spiders games.
- You can pause in combat (like in DAI), although this was revealed in the videos.
- Fast travel via wagons and camp fires.
- Companion stories are interesting, but he hasn't been able to get them to talk much yet (he claims to be 75% into the story).
- Less movement in the world compared to Skyrim/TW3. Low-magic kind of world.
- A couple of questionable accents.

Release dates per region and per platform! Also, I kinda got lucky, I am starting a new job on Monday, so once I sign the contract I will still have a few hours to spare to pre-order the game. Don't know when will I play the game, cause I have no work rooster yet, but I am definitely excited to play it!

Hope you get off to a good start, and that you'll be able to enjoy the game after work. Those tweets are really confusing me though. I'm no geographer, but that looks like Earth to me. If that isn't where the game is set then I don't want to see those maps in promotional material. And if it is then I don't want to hear about how any resemblance to historical cultures and historical human behavior is coincidental and shouldn't be held to any standard of realism.

I think the map is for showing regions with release times and has nothing to do with in-game stuff? But, I didn't watch the video/read the twit board, so don't know for sure.

7th biggest seller on Steam apparently. Oh man, getting nervous for Spiders, but I saw enough of the Twitch Stream to suspect they at least won't fail. Maybe they won't be GOTY, but they'll earn back the money they spent.
