Hope everyone is having fun playing. I'll probably get this but, as others have mentioned, I have too much going right now (game and work-wise) to be able to delve deep into something new. I'd rather wait until I have the time to enjoy it on a regular basis, not for an hour here and there. Also maybe it will be on sale.

ACG recommended playing on a harder difficulty. I think he may be right. Once you master parry, and the window is pretty generous, you can fend off many attacks. I disagree with Skill Up about the characters so far. De Sardet is clearly a blank slate, built for roleplaying. It reminds me of DA. The dialog is far better than past Spiders games, partly because they had hired a former TW3 writer.

Extreme difficulty is a bit of a mouthful at first, before you get used to the weird target lock and the fact that the dodge button from Witcher 3 is now parry instead. Which can hinder or help, really. And there's at least one quest you get access to very early with some rather overleveled enemies, which is frustrating. Nothing really discouraging yet, but nonetheless dangerously close to that Spider jank spoken of in legend.

Just downloaded. My expectations are low but I am hoping to get those Bioware cravings a bit satisfied.
Not much left but CDPR. Larian and Obsidian to a lesser degree. Bioware in yesteryear was the sweet spot between mainstream gaming and difficulty packaged in riveting storytelling and RPG gaming elements.

Spiders tends to make quick fixes about difficulty following release, that's why I wait a few weeks before I start the game I still encountered difficulty spikes in The Technomancer though, but I managed to pass them without lowering difficulty

Can someone explain what the mark is on the main character on her/his lower left cheek? I saw it in a video I watched about the game.

My male De Sardet: Desalin. (named after Jean-Jacque Dessalines). Trying to come up with a headcanon as to why both my my mother and my cousin are white as snow. Please tell me there's no lore that makes De Sardet genetically related. I'm going go with he was adopted into the royal family. Yeah... Just certain jarring things that remind you this is still AA jank, because Bioware atleast tried and was somewhat successful when it came to family resemblance.

As long as there are no brothers or sisters, we can just say the cousin is from the mom's side of the family. Actually this is probably the reason why there are no siblings or daddy De Sardet. Playing as a non-white Cousland in DAO made the entire origin part hilarious

😲 Amazon says my game is "out for delivery" in the last ten minutes.
I'm planning to do all of Wednesdays college coursework this morning so I can dive into it as soon as it arrives plus whatever patches it has to download.
Can I make a greeneyed redhead? That's my default starter character in every single RPG I've played so far except for Andromeda who had only one shade of synthetic looking red.

As for hair colors, there is nothing super redhead, some would probably qualify as red-blond or red-brown though.

I made a blue eyed redhead for my starter but I’m sure I saw green eyes as an option. I had time to get my start before heading off to work this morning. So far I’m liking it better than Technomancer (which I found clunky and didn’t like much) So far it’s living up to Spider’s reputation of being the poor man’s BioWare, which I mean mostly in a positive way.

I saw two types of green eyes (light and dark) and maybe at least two red(ish?) hair colors. But I didn't look much at the hair options as the color I wanted was just a click away from the starting one. But I think I noticed a very dark red and a rather bright one, not sure for in between.

Mommy mention that we looks very much like our dad who we have no idea what he looks like. Well, we are lucky, considering mom is not winning any beauty pageants... oh, wait, too soon? (if snarky Hawke gets to say it, so can I!..."runs away fast")
It's an easy, but acceptable way for Spiders to avoid the drama of "why do I look like an adopted child?". They really seem to have been learning the lessons from Bioware on the subject.

So there is enough wiggle room. Like saandrig mentioned, it's smart that there's no sibling characters ( I would hope so). Adoption is always a good alternative if I feel like it.

hmmmm It actually doesn't look like the malichor signs on everyone else in the prologue...and I have no idea what it is as I'm not far enough into the game. The others that I've seen appear to be far more advanced. I figure De Sardet is simply in the early stages.

I also thought the mark was an early stage of the malichor before playing the game, now I'm really not so sure. Especially after reading the malichor research note I found in the prologue area and seeing what actual malichor infected people looks like.
