obatalaryder He looks great. I'm looking forward to getting this game, will probably wait a while for bugfixes and maybe for the price to go down a little. I like playing AA games and a lack of polish doesn't impact my enjoyment, only thing I keep reading that puts me.off is the companions are lackluster.

I think my game is broken. I'm supposed to report back to Constantin but he is nowhere to be found. I also tried to finish the cargo quest (I think) in New Serene and the person I needed to report to wasn't there either. And yes, it was day time when I checked their quest location but they just weren't there. I think I need to start over, lul. Time of day should not matter. Constantin is on the second floor in the governor mansion in New Serene and the cargo quest giver (quartermaster) should be in the Coin Guard barracks in New Serene right after you enter from the street. If they are not there, yeah, probably some bug. Maybe reload a save from before arriving on the island?
They do lack the attention and detail usually found in the better Bioware games, but they are also not bad by any means. More like a bit better than companions in Bioware games before DAO. They do get a fair share of personal quests and interact in dialogues with other NPCs if the topic is relevant to them. You can also cause a diplomatic incident if you bring a certain companion to it's rival faction headquarters. Sometimes on main and side quests a companion may comment or give an opinion about the situation. Definitely not idle combat drones, but just not yet up to the best Bioware heights.

That's the difference between 7 writers (BioWare) and like 1 writer (Spiders, Jehanne Rousseau write most of the dialogues in all their games and they then get translated to English).

And sometimes I believe some "google translate" (not that they used it) weirdness happens. There was a quest where the dialogue out of a sudden mentioned a "daughter" twice and for the life of me I couldn't understand in what context and why. Maybe I missed something, but the sentences themselves didn't make much sense either. Or perhaps it was cut content and they didn't remove all the dialogue related to it.

So, I'm getting the impression that people are generally happy with the game so far? Would you recommend it to someone who couldn't keep going with The Technomancer past 10ish hours due to the writing and the voice acting? I found the combat there fine, nothing special but I didn't hate it either. I played the Technomancer recently. This is WAY better than The Technomancer. The voice acting still isn't Bioware quality. But it's far better than previous Spiders games. Combat is...similar to the Technomancer. It has the standard trinity of Fighter, Rogue, Mage skills. But it seems a bit more "flexible" in practice

I've also noticed the occasional idiomatic weirdness in lines (where it looks like the line was translated a bit too literally) But I don't find it to be a big deal thus far.

Can't figure out why but everything in Serene is basically one big extended tedious tutorial that feels strangely unnecessary. Trudge through it, land in New Serene, do a couple side-quests and see how you feel. The boring and drab feeling I had roaming Serene, hasn't been revisited since then, and I like the progress and pace I'm making through the story.

Something about Bioware's insistence on trying to make everything funny with the constant jokes just rubs me the wrong way. I am not getting any of that nonsense with Greedfall. The main protagonist actually seems to take their task seriously.

I would agree that BioWare’s more recent games try a little too hard to be funny all the time. The voice acting in this game is fine to be sure.

I can't help but wonder if that drab feeling was at least to some degree deliberate. I mean, Serene is supposed to be this plague-ridden metropolis past it's glory and full of gangs and corruption. New Serene, however, is a frontier town on a magical island, a big hope for the future. Maybe not the best way to introduce someone to the story, but...

Yeah, there is no Blue/Red build up mechanic like in ME or DA (gameplay wise it was almost always a placebo and was just for RP purposes). Not much room to RP with dialogue alone here. The game relies on how you resolve a quest in order to shift your alignments with the factions and companions. In that it is the same as DA and ME, but without the extra filler of non critical dialogue options. I guess it all comes down to budget again.

But they still chose to stick the title of 'RPG'and say that they are 'going for a BioWare feel'...in a fame where you can't actually Role Play. To me Role Playing is all about those little non critical dialogue choices that can help build and inform a character to make the big choices at the end of the quests and side quests.

Well, RPGs nowadays have moved a bit from that type of role play and are generally seen as games with a story, quests, skill trees and items. Witcher 3 and RDR 2 are considered top of the line RPGs, but the role play in them is quite limited. Bioware was probably the only studio that cared enough to give such options. For me personally it's nice if a game has RP options, but it definitely is not a deciding factor. I am more into a good story, good side quests and different character builds.

I'm still the prologue area (Serene), I already like Kurt because he's voiced by the same guy that played my boy Gascon in Thronebreaker.

I also got a big Human Revolution vibe when running around Serene, reminded me of Detroit a bit. I was ready to beat down any Derelict Row Ballers I came across. Haha.

Playing for review right now.
My first take: it's a jankier version of dragon age 2.
Take that for what you will.

So put a solid 3 to 4hrs in yesterday running around New Serene but I really am still waiting for the game to GRAB me. It's not that I am not enjoying it and I have high hopes that once I get out of the first two cities it will be better but yeah De Sardet and the story and environs just haven't enthralled me yet. saandrig you commented on the side quests being really good, was that more specifically outside the cities because to me the ones I have encountered so far are the usual go here do this with checkpoints added that are of no consequence and just pad things out.
