I wanted to know what do people think of the craftsmanship talent. Is is worth it? Because I could just pay the blacksmith to do the upgrades for me. It's more of a convenience thing. You either go back to the blacksmith and spent $$$ or do your crafting at camps/residence...anywhere a crafting table is (there are a few on maps too and they aren't always labelled from what I've seen). There are gloves you can find in the game with +1 to crafting (blacksmiths glove or something like that, usually found on bandits) and I think Kurt gives +1 to crafting if at friendly too. So technically you only need to put one point in it to max it eventually. I keep a pair of crafting gloves on me for example and I put a point on it because everything else is "maxed"* except Vigor and Charisma at level 20. *Via companions at friendly, me putting a point in them and gear with +1 to Science, Lockpicking, etc.

Depends on how much money you have at any given time and if you use a lot of ammo I would get 1 point (in science?) and keep a pair of Blacksmith gloves and make my own ammo. Wait how do you make ammo, and what do blacksmith gloves do?

Wait how do you make ammo, and what do blacksmith gloves do? Ammo requires Science not Craftmanship I believe, both are done at a crafting table though. Blacksmith gloves gives +1 craftmanship. Armor have a slot that can be upgraded to add +1 to certain talents (not all of them. Charisma and Intuition are cape/hat only). Companions gives +1 to a talent once their disposition reach friendly (Aphra is science, Vasco is intuition, Kurt is craftmanship, Siora is Vigor and Petrus is Charisma). It all stack, so if you put one point in intuition, have a hat with intuition and Vasco is in the party and at friendly, you max intuition.

Wait how do you make ammo, and what do blacksmith gloves do? I don't have the game in front of me. There are items that give bonuses to skills. Such as +1 to blacksmithing. So if you have 0 points in blacksmithing (crafting>) but you put blacksmith gloves on your character, you now have +1 to crafting so long as you're wearing the gloves. I believe you need +2 to make ammo, so you would need one point in the Ammo making tree, then put Blacksmith gloves on De Sardet and walk over to a workbench. At the workbench, there are four categories of things you can make. I remember it being category 3 that has ammo at the bottom, and then if you have the ingredients and the right amount of points, you make ammo.

I play a mage now. I have something like 300 ammonia saved up just by looting. Not sure how much you go through for a gun user I like to use it to wipe out the armor or make a mob back off of me. I seem to go through it at a fair pace, so I try not to use it except when I'm feeling overwhelmed. I've made about 100 bullets on top of what I've looted. I don't think I've used 300 bullets.

I play a mage now. I have something like 300 ammonia saved up just by looting. Not sure how much you go through for a gun user As a gun user, I used a LOT of ammo, but I also gradually upped the difficulty as I went along in the game. Was at 170 ammo, did several Arena rounds, dropped to 30. Then went to 200, dropped to 80. Reached 650, dropped to 180. You get the idea. If you use ammo as your main damage source, you can't live just by crates. You have to craft it.
Ammo is crafted with Science at level 2. Each ammo craft gives 5 ammo units. A single point in Science, plus a chest piece with a Science point gives the ability to craft Ammo. A friendly Aphra in the party gives another Science point, so technically you can make ammo without putting a point in the Talent, but must wait to get and befriend Aphra. And at 3 Science points there is less crafting materials required.
There is also an Alchemist in Hikmet that will craft ammo for gold, just like the Blacksmith does upgrades.

Thanks I totally get where you are coming from now. I think the issue is Ubi really lifted the bar with side quests in Odyssey and I just spent 500 hours playing it so my perspective if that's the right word is probably way different, maybe some people will disagree but whole DLC (Lost Tales of Greece) were based around the type of quest you are talking about with finding the cabin boy etc. but your response puts your comments in perspective. Thanks. Re: "In Andromeda or even DA:I for second quests, it was just " my mother is sick, please go find her to give her my potion. thanks" Or " The templar bastards have killed my husband and took his ring, go find them, and kill them. Or " my cow is lost, go find her. " Or there are wolves around, please go build some tower around thanks my boy " Irrelevant, hardly interesting by the way." This made me LOL I do think MEA cops a bit more of a caning than it deserves and there were far too many quests like that but there were also quite a few good ones as well. Voeld - I didn't even get to see the bloody alien whales, just chased map tags around.
You just didn't look hard enough then!!!!! And I bet you missed seeing Batman as well!!!

Eh combat is not much of a challenge, mostly a chore (poor animals) I just whack things with my sword and Kung Fu kick them Bruce Lee style, most of the time my enemies are all so "knocked down" I feel like Muhammad Ali. But I am also spec'd in guns and I save that for the boss fights (if I need it) so ammo is rarely a problem.

Haha, that Batman easter egg is ingenious! I had not heard of this one before. Back to Greedfall: I am still not that far in (had to power through Far Cry 5 last week) but one thing that starts to annoy me is all the backtracking. Most quests seem to involve running around A LOT in order to talk 3 dialogue lines with some NPC than run to the next one, than back to the first one, etc., etc. It's a bit much sometimes, isn't it? I mean, I notice it now in New Seren already. I can only hope it doesn't translate onto the entire island or I'll have serious trouble finishing this game, that much I can foretell.

As for Bioware's worst, for me that's the absolutely godawful Inquisition. To say that Spiders can do as well as that is to say they can't do well at all. To me it appears more in line with Bioware's more middle-of-the-road titles, the Jade Empires and the Mass Effects. Probably not as good as Origins, but neither is most of Bioware's own catalog. Which begs the question WTF is Bioware doing with it's last several games?
Poor Leadership and Management.

Voeld - I didn't even get to see the bloody alien whales, just chased map tags around.
You just didn't look hard enough then!!!!! And I bet you missed seeing Batman as well!!! Those are good close ups of whales as much as the other picture is the real Batman And the quest never shows you the whales or even points you at a spot where you can see their lights. You have to wander and spot it yourself. Frankly I wanted to get under the ice and swim with them (I know, I know, Ryder's suit can't take the cold as much as a good old coat can, lol) or at least get a cutscene with them in it.
Don't backtrack on your backtracking opinion Nobody argued there is none of it. Just that it's better packaged, explained and shorter than the similar cases in MEA for example. And, dear Maker, go do some Kingdom Come Deliverance side quests and talk to me again about what is super bad backtracking! Greedfall has a couple of doozies still, one is sort of on purpose, the other is two quests into one (you get two rewards too).

And I was joking on the fact how such a very interesting bit like the whales could be missed as easily as the Batman easter egg (is it a confirmed easter egg though? It as easily can be not intentional). Both are cool, both are too easily missed if you don't specifically look. And the game misses an opportunity with the whales while their quest is pretty badly handled itself.
And, dear God, man, are those your screenshots? If so, turn on that anti aliasing, please, I beg you...

As far as I know its a confirmed easter egg but that just means its on lists of easter egss in the game. The quest at least had a moral/ecological v science choice at the end and poor old Jaal was too delicate to make it!!!! Pretty certain AA was on its not usually something I turn off, I think in particular the Elaaden one it was a deliberately made effect to emphasise the brightness/glare on the planet. However this could have been taken on my old PC and this game was a catalyst for getting a new one as Elaaden caused me a massive video settings crash at one stage.

It’s been 17 hours I'm playing this game, I still haven’t found Aphra. I was honestly expecting to have her in my party at the very beginning like other companions that came very quickly. I was planning to romance her since I saw her in the trailer, impatient to discover her. But as unexpected as it is, things don’t really happen as I initially planned. It's like DA:I. I expected to romance Cassandra before playing the game, convinced she would be my LI, aaand my canon LI is Josephine ! I am kinda lost. In the meantime my character met Siora, traveled everywhere with her. At the beginning I was indifferent, focused on finding Aphra, but she grew on me as the story moved on. Her touching reactions coming profoundly from heart and her cause resonate with me... I like how dedicated she is to her people ! Nice to meet you Siora ! My character has sympathized a lot with her. Aaaand I must admit that while adventuring with her all this time, a certain dynamic between them has been installed and I like it. I have somewhat forgotten Aphra lmao. And I must say, I'm totally on board with the natives !!! Even wearing their clothes

I don't know what backtracking you guys means. I'm over here laughing at how little distance I have to go. Where are the super secret notes that damn the NPC? why, in the same room with them! or just downstairs! And no one will stop me from digging through their things! how about the whole, "keep an ear out for anyone using the super secret code phrase" ? there I was, thinking I needed to actually randomly listen to NPC conversations throughout town. but no! walk down the street! Conveniently one man will be talking WAY too loud to another guy using that very specific super secret code phrase! with a cut scene and everything so you definitely don' tmiss it.

- I do believe the game is rather stingy when leveling up (or weight capacity for that matter). Progression is too slow for my liking, or rather was, but that's why we have CE and Nexus.
And me that was thinking leveling was actually going too fast as is. lol. Maybe I should've been clearer. Leveling up is fine, the problem is you only get attribute or talent points every once in a while and they're some of the most useful points.

Conveniently one man will be talking WAY too loud to another guy using that very specific super secret code phrase! with a cut scene and everything so you definitely don' tmiss it. I mean, I am still pretty much in the beginning of the game but I did notice that just in the prologue town To find that cabin boy, you basically run across that - admittedly small - town 3-4 times, just to ask one-line questions to the NPCs who all happen to be in opposite corners. What made it worse was that I could obviously guess that the boy would be in the warehouse as soon as I talked to the mother for the first time but the game doesn't let me go there until I talk to 3 more people (including the mother AGAIN) and have them explain it to my character. Same with the refugee historians (which fortunately, you can do kinda at the same time though). Here too, I had already been in that warehouse but they don't spawn until you get the info that they should be there so you go back again, blablabla. Now, such quests exist in pretty much every RPG but as soon as I got to New Serene, pretty much the very first quest you get (the one about the native merchant) requires you to go to the merchant, then to the guard captain in the barracks, then to the minister in the regent HQ, then back to the merchant, then back to the Guard captain, then to the jailer and that's just to find out what's actually going on.This wouldn't even be that bad if you wouldn't just talk like one or two lines everywhere, so 90% of the time of this quest is just walking See what I mean, it's not so much the distances since they are pretty small atm anyway, it's more ratio of running from A to B vs actually doing stuff. Now I get, I am a diplomat and most of what I do is talk, I expected this but I don't know, it troubles me to think how this will play out once I get Island spanning quests. I am still traumatised from Andromeda's planet hopping quests, which pile up especially in the later part of that game. I hope I won't have to crisscross the island 500 times just to talk one-liners in each city and trigger the next phase. Even with fast travel, that would suck.

Sorry no KCD for me, not the type of game I enjoy in any way shape or form. Good choice, trust me. I think I was better off going for DOS 2, but at least now I can bash KCD. I am starting to suspect I missed several steps of the cabin boy quest by charming a certain NPC to give me the information earlier... Damn, I am leaving on a work trip for a few days and was thinking of postponing my next PT...but now... Lady De Sardet enters the chat!
I just noticed how the painter desperately tries to circle around the topic of your mark
Keep talking, Father, I am just resting my eyes for a second...

I'm still trying to understand why people are complaining about backtracking and I'm about half-way into the game. But then I've seen complains elsewhere that the game has no story and a review complaining the game was following open world convention too much... Sometimes I feel like I'm playing a different game. Saying that, there is quite a few quests that can be advanced with taking a different approach that is suggested by the quest (whatever it is via companions, NPCs or the quest log steps). All the quests in the prologues do with the charlatant one being the less flexible. I just noticed how the painter desperately tries to circle around the topic of your mark The way he ask you to place your face is so the mark is basically in front. I realized that the 3rd time I created a character. There is quite a few subtle references to the mark in the prologue actually. It get less subtle once you reach the island.
