You need to have more than one romance interactions for the heart sub-menu to show up, otherwise it just shows like a normal line. Basically, wait until you did all the personal quests before picking dialogue options with a companion. You'll have two sub-menus, one with little heart (the romance stuff) and one without. Yet I can bed Vasco and never had one heart option. :-\
ETA: I've also completed all companion quests as well. And he just ain't giving me any new dialogues. He's just not that into me, I guess. *cries some more*
You had the heart options, you just never see the heart unless you accumulated more than two romance things to ask the companion. If you "consume" dialogues with companions when they appear, you will never see the heart. For example, Kurt's "do you ever feel lonely" is an romance option, but if you only have that one you don't see any heart, as the icon is attached to the "ask him ->" and not the option itself. I stopped talking to companions after I realized that, now I just let them "accumulate" the dialogues instead.

I just told you I could do the full Vasco romance and never had one option with the heart next to it. I did get the lonely line with Kurt but I picked the wrong line and there were no hearts in his conversations or Vascos. Period.

If you do the dialogue as soon as they appear, then the heart icon doesn't become visible even though the option is still there.

I am going to stop talking to them and let it accumulate. Struggling to see how this makes sense. Why was this done?

Ugh, looks like I wasted my money on this game. A few suspect things in the game but for the most part pretty good at the start, some okay quests and such, okay I think I will enjoy the game as I am just about to leave the 1st area......And then the game suddenly morphs into Dark souls with an idiotically difficult boss fight in which they get rid of your companions and make my 4th level mage take on some big tree monster. Okay after getting spanked numerous times I lower the difficulty to the lowest level, makes no difference, so I then use about every potions i have in my inventory to help. Makes no difference. I hated dark souls for these type of boss fights. I know others like them, not me. (And I really don't care if it is a L2P issue on my part. If you lower the difficulty to the lowest setting to get by an area of any game it should be easy.) This is probably not to different from my first experience with a Spiders game, the one I've learned is....

But seriously tho, try out one of the other play styles Beerfish. That's what I did with the Technomancer and got along a lot better. I felt like the idiot with the sword at first, until I switched to the style that has a gun. Guns > Swords.

I have been clicking every dialogue option as soon as it appears, if what I just stated above is true I am screwed well actually no I am not screwed!!!!! That just seems ludicrous to me, I don't understand why it would be like that!!!! If that is the case I am then I am seriously stopping playing, the romance option with either Aphra or Siora was the one thing keeping me playing. I truly have no care what happens on the island, in Serene or with Constantin or De Sardet.

Guns and swords (plus 2 or more strength and Endurance) has made it a walk in the park for me, I have never used a healing potion since leaving Serene and I stupidly invested in healing magic and have cast it once just to see what it would do.

Not sure if it even has one but maybe find the saves and delete some? I saw this on the net, make sure you have ticked the box in properties that says run the game a administrator and that under "Security" all the options have "Full Control" Another fix is apparently: Go to your ransomware settings and add the .exe file for Greedfall to the allowed apps so that it can make or apply changes to files. Windows sees it as an "unfriendly" application and won't allow it to write a save file.

However, the General tab seemed to indicate that some folders didn't have Write access. I allowed it from there and now I can save again. Weird, right? EDIT: Well, that didn't last long. The bug resurfaced. Tough little bastard, aren't ya?

I truly have no care what happens on the island, in Serene or with Constantin or De Sardet. No, minus getting turned down by the straight options as Aphra has no more of those with my female De Sardet. Kurt and Vasco still have them and I've been using the most "not interested" answer possible with them at every turn. If the companion doesn't show any, you probably need to advance the storyline (Siora and Kurt are main quest locked)...or you encountered a bug.

Got a bug with my Lady De Sardet. Apparently the last face in the CC changes to it's darkest skin preset when you get to New Serene. Wondered if I should restart, but it looks kinda ok and I was going native anyway, so it fits with their masks. Glad I didn't go too blonde
The voice actress sounds almost familiar, but I couldn't place her at all. Her IMDB page doesn't show any previous game credit. She does a very good job and hopefully we will hear from her more in the future. Games seem to nail the voice of the female protagonist lately, first Kass, now Lady De Sardet. I wonder what Cyberpunk and down the line Outer worlds (ain't buying from Epic) will do. MEA disappointed me a bit with Sara Ryder. While competent, she wasn't reaching any heights, but probably didn't have much to work with. Scott Ryder on the other hand was better, so... I admit, some of my DAI playthroughs were only because of both female voices. It was fun hearing Shae Vizla (and Nyreen Kandros!) as a Qunari. And Specialist Traynor is a no brainer.

I had to add an exclusion for the Greedfall.exe on my Windows Defender settings. The solution is described in full here, under "Game not saving." Very close to the finish line now.

Wow...I just completed the game today and I have to say that I haven't been this invested in a good RPG since witcher 3. I don't know if it's just I haven't played any good RPGs lately or that this game story was really good. But I enjoyed it, and if this game doesn't have a sequel or at least an expansion I will be really sad.

I actually put Greedfall aside because I was doing some hard drive cleanup and realized I still had The Witcher III, and I never finished Blood and Wine. I’m going to finally finish that this weekend and get back to Greedfall next week

Oh boy... I am honestly not sure what I will say about Greedfall now. The game started real strong, but dragged horribly mid-way through. It also felt like they stretched out the ending by ten or so hours with lugubrious backtracking to reveal to De Sardet what was more or less obvious to the player. Was able to see two endings as well; massive difference between them and it stems from A singular choice at the end of the game, where you need to decide the fate of Constantin. It changed up the entire slide presentation, and kind of made the previous choices in the ending slides totally moot. I got to admit, this was not that strong of a narrative, and it really hurts the game a bit. Though definitly not as bad as Technomancer or other Spiders games. It at least had heart and it shows. I got a lot to ponder now before I write the review.

I finished Greedfall last night and I, for one, loved it. I loved the story (there was so much story, way more than some games I won't mention here because it's sure to be an unpopular opinion). There were only 2 "collection" quests I can think of (professor's notes and campsites). The rest were all real quests with story/lore attached. I kinda felt like I knew how it would end when I got to a certain part of the story and I was right, but that didn't ruin it for me one bit. It was still ....sad for me I made a 2nd character but will probably wait about a week or so before starting through again because it is alot of game to do again. some scenery and my team shots: I hope they worked, I'm pretty good at messing this up, lol.

I finally finished the game after a 43-hour playthrough. I might've finished it a bit earlier but as I was about to start the last mission, a couple of side quests I had remaining (find all camps and the professor's notes) were immediately marked as "failed," what suggested there would be no possibility of exploring this world after the game's end what is kind of a shame (there is also no NG+). Thus, I loaded an earlier save, finished those side quests in about an hour, and embarked on the last stretch of the game. As always, opinions will vary, but I found the last stretch of the game to be somewhat rushed, particularly in explaining the downfall of a certain character. Perhaps this has to do with the fact we see very little of how the character evolves throughout the story. It's a bit abrupt is all I'm saying. Likewise, the final choice you're asked to make is probably the one that will largely affect your ending, and I was slightly disappointed about how easy a choice it was to make. I dwelled on it for a few seconds to give the game the benefit of the doubt over why in hell I'd make the obviously bad choice. The battle that leads up to it was equally disappointing and could've used more NPCs (I was asked to recruit armies after all, not half a dozen soldiers all over the island) and some/more and better cutscenes. In fact, before all hell breaks loose you're asked to gather your companions so they can exchange a few words with you and the scene that played out was a mess (characters would speak but the camera would stay with Vasco, unless Siora was the one speaking). The slides epilogue was underwhelming. I'd argue Bound by Flame's epilogue where Mathras fills us in on the fate of your companions is a lot better; then again Mathras is a superior storyteller than Ser de Courcillon. In fact, I'd argue Bound by Flame's entire ending is better*, suffering only from the main character's VA. Notoriously, Greedfall's ending, at least the good one, lacks music. Sorry, but that is kind of a cardinal sin, especially when you have someone like Olivier Derivière composing your score. This is how I might've crafted the ending+epilogue (beyond the comments I've already made): 1) Unless there's a reason for de Sardet to faint like that, have her/him leave the cave carrying Constantin's body, and have that short scene play to the last 20 seconds of the main theme. Follow that with a scene of Constantin's funeral playing to the first part of " Farewell Mother." It should be a small and simple affair. 2) Throw in some kind of victory celebration and have it play to the main theme from this point and up to 2:20-ish. It's criminal not feature this music more prominently when it's practically screaming, "THIS IS THE ENDING MUSIC!!!" 3) Cut to some time later. You're the new governor of New Serene and you decide to visit your companions to see how they're doing. Let them tell you how life's treated them after Constantin's fall. This would also allow you to finish any standing side quests and play additional DLC that will never see the light of day. None of this turns Greedfall into a bad game, merely one that sadly didn't stick the landing, and one that would've benefited from more interaction with your companions. In time and with a larger budget, who knows how the wind may blow... * I've only just noticed how eerily similar the endings to these two games are. Both feature a tree that represents life. In both, the villain asks you to let the old world die so a new one can take its place, with you at its head, and a sacrifice is required to return life to the world.

Continuing on with the Lets Play I must say that the last couple of quest lines have really piqued my interest in regards to Kurt and some of the stuff going on with the natives. It does answer one of the worries I had about the game going in and is something that they do seem to have actually picked up from BioWare. They are actually treating the native/ colonial plot with a lot of delicacy and some nuance. Its not just 'people from the continent, bad, natives good' but there are angels and demons on all sides in this conflict.
Also impressed by the bredth and complexity of the companion quests...not enough to make me want the game anytime soon but it does put it back on the list as a game I should pick up *eventually* over some of the others coming out.
