I just picked up Greedfall on a whim this weekend. Not too far in yet but I'm enjoying it more than I expected for a AA game.
Some thoughts so far: - Reminds me a bit of DA2 - I like that quests often have multiple steps and multiple ways to solve them - Talents are interesting and come into play fairly often - I wish there was a mini-map, feels like I have to pause to bring up the map constantly - Character creator is pretty limited but you can create decent-looking characters - Combat feels kind of clunky - Story/lore is interesting enough at this point - I like the reputation system with factions, although not sure what that will affect in the end
We'll see how I feel as I progress through but pleasantly surprised at this point.

I'm enjoying it more than I expected for a AA game. Was pretty much my reaction, as well. Spiders is a studio with a lot of talent and enormous dedication and ambition. They do tend to hit the limits of their studio resources, though. I ended up liking Greedfall, a lot. If you end up liking it all the way through, there is a prequel coming out at some point.

Just finished the game and really liked it overall. It definitely feels like a BioWare game with a more limited budget but also has some nice features of its own like the reputation system and emphasis on diplomacy. I invested heavily in charisma and intuition which seemed to work out well for attaining high reputation with the various factions (I got the "best" ending). The story was engaging with some surprises and I ended up liking all of the companions (I romanced Vasco).
Excited to see what they can do in Greedfall 2, hopefully with a bit larger budget.
Some improvements I'd like: - More companion content. I liked what we had but more banter between them would be great. Maybe increase the number of companions if possible. And would be great to be able to control them in battle. - A mini map please - Better fast travel. Probably my biggest gripe with the game is all of the backtracking.

Probably my biggest gripe with the game is all of the backtracking It got really, really frustrating and is the one thing that has stalled my interest in a second run, unfortunately.

Yeah, the game seemed intent on telling me this was the bad ending, but it was so much more interesting than anything that happened in the 'good' ending. I actually cried and picked the "good ending". Because I'm a goody two shoes in a game and thought it was expected of me. Found it so completely not worth it that I got angry, I reloaded, and picked the Cousin. And was like wow I mean, it's dark but it's way more interesting than keeping the status quo. And I'd done all the quests that ensured the good ending and good leaders and romanced one person (meh). So it wasn't lack of exposure to the material. I did not care about who died on the "bad ending".

There are a lot of promising tidbits in that article. Sounds like the companions will be getting more content and there will be more of them (aiming for 7). KOTOR-inspired combat with controllable party members would be great. Greedfall feels like a good foundation to build upon so I think this has a lot of potential. They are aiming for 2024 - I wonder if this will release before Dreadwolf.

I hope that GreedFall 2 will be optimised better than Steelrising, Spiders' latest release, and remains non-open-world. The rest sounds as expected - the same as before but higher quality. The progress from Mars: War Logs and Bound by Flame is very noticeable - the amount of non-combat quest solutions slightly increased in GreedFall, the combat became slightly more tactical, and there was less backtracking (i.e. it was worse). On the other hand, stealth and/or consumables still were the most effective approach.

It is Spiders who are making Greedfall 2, but they couldn't work on it until Nacon acquired the IP from Focus Home Interactive who owned it.

It took them about ~3 years to release Technomancer after Bound by Flame. Then ~3 years for Greedfall and ~3 years for Steelrising. Spiders have around 50-70 devs, they don't have the staff to work on multiple AA release at the same time.

As a Souls-like, it’s decent in terms of combat and level design but nothing exceptional. The art and clockwork automaton stuff was pretty neat to me. Ultimately, it gave me exactly what I expected from “AA Soulsborne”.
