^^^ oh fudge. The overview looked excellent although I laughed at the familiar acrobatic fully standing roll from Technomancer.

I already pre-ordered the game. I hope it'll be worth it and not a ME:A sized mess.

Soundtrack teaser I already pre-ordered the game. I hope it'll be worth it and not a ME:A sized mess. Depends why you think MEA was a mess I guess. Saying that, GreedFall is definitely not going to be MEA sized (It's around 40-50 hours long) nor does the game have anywhere near MEA budget or dev team size to polish the game or make content. It's AA, not even top AA. Larian had more people working on Divinity Original Sin 2 (near 100) than Spiders has in their entire studio (near 30, goes to near 50 with contractors).

MEA was one of the most unfun, tedious, annoying games I've ever played. The combat was fine, but everything else was just... TEDIOUS. And in general the game was ugly as heck. The story was basically Dora the Explorer in space and it was so.. childish in a way. And boy, let me not start with the romances (specifically gay romances). But I don't expect a complete failure on that regard, especially when Technomancer already proved that they can handle romances, specifically gay ones just fine. I don't expect a AAA tier game in terms of overall graphics and animation, but I do hope for an enthralling story and good gameplay.

Because I might not have the money to purchase the game later as my life is changing and my financial situation will become worse, and I won't have too much money to spend on entertainment. And in the end, I'm convinced I'll get 50 dollars worth of entertainment. Everything I've seen has me sold. Also, I am fine with giving my hopeful support to non-AAA companies, especially those who make single player RPGs.

I will likely preorder Greedfall as well. I am fairly certain I will like it from what I have seen so far. I also like to support third-person single-player-only rpgs so that hopefully there will be many more made.

I'm thinking of preordering Greedfall as well but I'm still a bit uncertain as the combat in Spiders games tends to be on the clunky side. That said Greedfall looks really interesting.

I pre-ordered it...otherwise I wouldn't buy it. All the times I didn't pre-order a game I was interested in, I ended up ignoring the game instead (often for years). I don't even read reviews in those cases, I just stop caring about the game all together. It's kinda weird. Pre-orders allow me to go "how yeah I got that game coming". edit: New devblog about combat.

And in the end, I'm convinced I'll get 50 dollars worth of entertainment. Everything I've seen has me sold. Also, I am fine with giving my hopeful support to non-AAA companies, especially those who make single player RPGs. It seems like a win situation only to me. You get to watch review to get a better idea of whether the game is worth it or not, there are a lot of different types of reviewers out there. You also might get the game when it is about 89% bug free. I do not see a downside. Supporting developers? Unless preordering means you are giving even more so to the "developers", remember, you often do not give any money directly to the developers... the developers are being paid regardless, they are employees in most cases. Only in actually small indie titles do you support the developers directly. The company will get your money even if you do not preorder. Another win situation At the end of the day, preordering really only supports one kind of mindset; and it is why most companies in this day and age have pretty much turned into bethesda with all of their games... extremely buggy messes, all of it.

I knew I was going to 95% chance buy Horizon Zero Dawn a couple months before it came out. The week it came out, 5 days after or so, I checked in on reviews. They were like 80% score or something. I was like, "yah, thought so". bought it. Loved it.
I see that happen here for me. Unless there was a bonus from pre ordering, I don't see a point.

Unless there was a bonus from pre ordering, I don't see a point. There's one actually, a outfit and two weapons, but they'll be available for purchase afterwards. It's a small thing and I don't know if you'd be interested.

I'll be surprised if the average score is going to be that good. Their other games are in the 50-60 range, while I would considered them in the 70s personally (good thing I never looked at those scores before and only started to buy them on recommendation from others).

Same. Technomancer had middling reviews (by players) but I really liked it, enough to play it twice. The combat and retracing footsteps was annoying, but I liked the story, the characters, and the setting. I also played Mars War Logs (1.5 times) and am slowly working my way through Bound By Flame. I will probably get this game but will wait for a sale. I wonder if it uses the same opening/going through a door animation as the other 3 games?

The gameplay in those titles are a bit of a headache, but the stories kick ass. Bound By Flame included. Nothing beats being possessed by a sexy demon god with a gorgeous voice who won't stop drawing you into conversation. Dark Messiah won me over on that feature alone. As for Greedfall though, I hope we get more elbow room in the roleplaying department than we did in BBF. I've been waiting my entire adult life to get to play a fantasified Colonel Tavington.

I was ambivalent, but after the last gameplay trailer color me intrigued. I'll still wait for reviews and maybe a small discount. If good, it might fill the hole left by the decent DA sequel I never got.

Then there is no hope for specific roleplaying choices, unless the character is already designed to be the way one wants. I agree in principle, but there has been games with voiced protagonists that I felt approached the necessary level of ambiguity and versatility to let you roleplay around it. So I'm not entirely pessimistic yet, although the babyfaced callow youth voice of the trailers' protagonist isn't exactly promising. If there was ever an RPG where leaning into the imperialistic capitalist Lawful Neutral/Evil mindset should obviously be one of the main conversation paths, this would be it. I'm going to be majorly disappointed if you're forced to play as some wide-eyed 21st-century transplant who can't emotionally deal with all the nasty nasty surviving going on in this world when the whole point is you being a part of it whether you like it or not.

Glad we have different standards. it must be very difficult to find a game you like. Oh, it is not too hard to find a game I like. The only thing that really keeps me from buying and playing a game is microtransactions and lootboxes, unless there is a rational explanation to their existence, such as having to pay for servers and moderators. I quite like the look of Greedfall. But the best roleplaying opportunity you get with a voiced protagonist is similar Dragon Age: 2, Dragon Age: Inquisiton and Bethesda Open World Action RPGs. It is really the bare minimum, very, very minimum. But of course, I also like the idea of pushing companies and developers to improve upon the RPG genre, it has been very, very stale for the longest time, no one have decided to try innovate on the genre. Although it may not be due to the lack of creativity in developers and the lack of funding, and might be more due to the limitations of weak consoles. Consoles have it's uses but is mostly a plague. Anywho, if Greedfall is largely said to be good, regardless of it's RPG elements or lack thereof, then I am likely to buy it because again, I do really like the look of it, it looks interesting. I don't need an intimately, personally roleplayed character to enjoy the game. I just need something that is entertaining to play. My standards are pretty low when it comes to video games.

Yeah, I expect being a dick and not being a dick are two possible choices. But I also imagine it would be left at those two. I have not seen an RPG with a voiced protagonist offer any more nuance than that, if any RPG at all. It would be awesome to be evil due to practicality, rather than just because you are a dick, or to be good but for ulterior evil reasons. But a RPG puts you on one of two paths, good or evil, in the latest two Dragon Age titles as well as Fallout 4's cases, it would be saint or just a dick, and the dialogue tends to be as limited especially with voiced protagonists. I won't ever hope for more in a RPG title... and if some developer ever manages to create more, I will be joyfully surprised.
